Blizzard Splash Screen Update for June 27

Do you like that headline creativity? The subtitle could be "God, whatever this thing is we wish it would pop its frakking head out of the ice already so we can all move on with our lives." Regardless, today we must soldier on, and bravely speculate about the hidden mysteries of Blizzard's splash page.

So, what's new today? Well, those eye slits from yesterday are most certainly eyes now, and there's a ridge of some sort between them. Our friends at WoW Insider seemed to be inclined to think it's Warcraft's Arthas, and honestly, they make a pretty compelling case. So, it looks like an answer may be close at hand, so it may be your last chance to speculate: Who's beneath the ice?

It can't be Diablo. Last I saw, he didn't have glowing blue eyes. And it's not the Lich King. The jutting metal on the helmet isn't pointed. It's flat at the bottom. This could either be hype for SC2, or it's an announcement of their next-gen MMOG; and we can probably guess which IP that will use. There's a chance at a new IP as well. Maybe we don't know those eyes. Blizzard has a fancy for glowing blue, and turquoise.

Probably because they are called Blizzard, and have used ice in their logo for over 10 years now...

White eyes means nothing yet. The image is still evolving. I'm pretty sure this could be anything. I wouldn't rule out any possibilites other than a Wrath of the Lich King announcement. Had the expansion pack not been announced yet then maybe, but it's old news at this point. They wouldn't push this much hype for something already announced.

My guess is for a Steam like service that couples with the authenticator. Notice how it's called the "blizzard authenticator" and not the "wow authenticator?" or the new IP. We'll know tomorrow.

Compass => Blizzard North => Diablo?

It's very likely that it is Diablo, for one they're trying to make the picture in a way that it keeps you guessing, so we can't be certain until tomorrow, I think. The helmets aren't the exact same, the gleam around the eyes don't match the edges on Arthas' helmet. I don't think Blizzard has made his helmet vary much in all of his pictures, but maybe this is an exception. Imagine Blizzards thought process if they were making a splash screen for Diablo 3, it would be the dumbest idea ever if they made it fire. It would be way too obvious (alternately they could freeze the fire for Arthas). The artwork done on those leaked pictures of Diablo looks like something Blizzard would do, but this might just be wishful thinking.

I'm pretty sure the image is made so it resembles just about anything, diablo, protoss, arthas... The same goes for the runes. It also makes sense that there will be more that one interesting announcement. However, given the amount of hype they're creating they BETTER announce a diablo 3 or I'm gonna be pissed. We already know SC2 and WotLK are coming out sooner or later, so it doesn't deserve this much expectation. I know my wishes cloud my judgement, but if it's not diablo 3 it's going to be a great disappointment.

For all you champions that are talking about this being starcraft maybe you should consider that there's already been an SC2 splash screen. This is supposed to be for blizzcon, which is why the runes are from every game series blizzard has ever developed, and every single series is being updated (SC2/WOTLK/lost vikings)with the exception of WC (kinda) and of course Diablo, if you look at the timelines of all the games that blizzard has released you'll see the next game that should be produced is Diablo, all the other games that have already been announced don't need any more hype. Two big games are coming out, SC2/WOTLK, why would they specify which one they would choose for the splash screen, Diablo seems much more likely.

With multiple runes from different Blizzard Games, my guess is a World Of Blizzard Fighting Game :D Picture Diablo and Kerrigan fighting...

I dont know why is everyone inventing milions of thing from a picture. Theres objects from several games, it unfortunally means nothing! Just a blizzart way to attract atention.

YES! that is correct. Each new splash image had a new opened seal. with each new seal opened, the middle of the ice melts down. look at the website now. They are glowing and you can see eyes now. all 5 seals have been opened and every diablo fan knows what happens after that.

and by seals, i mean the symbols that popped up 1 at a time over past several days.

i think it's going to be the new RPM Racing.

I would be so dissapointed if it ends up NOT being a new game. I mean this tease is so intense it just can't be WoW or SC2...
