Hudson crafting a new Adventure Island
It may be hard to believe, but it's been 13 years since the last Adventure Island game was released. ... OK, so maybe it's not that hard, the "dude riding a skateboard and collecting eggs" genre isn't exactly thriving. Undeterred, Hudson's Takahashi Meijin says that the company is going back to the well for another Adventure Island game, currently in the early stages of development.
Meijin said that the game will probably appear on WiiWare, but noted concern about trying to shoehorn motion control into the game, making him (we believe) the very first Wii developer to ever, ever worry about that. Congratulations, Takahashi!

Whoa, 20 year old spoiler alert!
Nadril @ Jun 27th 2008 12:47PM
This is about the most random old game series that a developer could ever think to revive.
Great memories of this game as a kid though, was actually playing it the other day on my NDS (R4 card).

PIRATE! THE SHAME!
Nadril @ Jun 27th 2008 1:00PM
Considering I actually owned the original game like 15 years ago or so, no, I'm not pirating it.

Here, let me start trouble:
Wonderboy > Adventure Island
...well, trouble if this were like 1989.
seasidebaz @ Jun 27th 2008 2:03PM
No, Wonderboy = Adventure Island. Exactly the same game.
Except one of them had a hat.
arrrgh @ Jun 27th 2008 3:15PM
a damn nice hat.
Kizzle @ Jun 27th 2008 4:02PM
"Except one of them had a had"
Exactly - so they are NOT the same. So which is better..game with hat, or game with no hat?

Starting up the Hat Defense Force right..... NOW.
Go, Master Higgins, go!

I liked this series as a child, however, I slightly liked the sequel it had for the NES because of the dragons you could get in a stage. Either way, both games were awesome.
Yay! Let's hope it retains the fun the NES games had, or else I'll be disappointed.

Double post to see if my last comment appears because this comment system is horrible.

The original game, which I have somewhere around the house, was damn hard. I think I still have nightmares about it.
KeenCommander @ Jun 27th 2008 1:42PM
It was fun on the NES, but that game was too simplistic was too simplistic to even work on the SNES - not to mention the Wii. It'll take some serious revamping for this to be anything other than a crap nostalgia remake.

Are Tina and Master Higgins crackheads? Or maybe they ate too much candy. The one thing I do know....
They are a match made in 1 tooth heaven.
Levi @ Jun 27th 2008 6:58PM
Now that you mention it, they do look inbred to me.
"Heeyuk! I done saved my sister!"
lordwindowlicker @ Jun 27th 2008 3:54PM
Actually, the last Adventure Island (Gamecube/PS2 Remake) was released only a few years ago....
