Official PS3 Bluetooth headset revealed, bundled with SOCOM
SOCOM Confrontation's retail release will include a Bluetooth headset, Sony reconfirmed today -- this time with pictures. While similar to the Jabra headset packaged inside Warhawk's box (and later removed), SOCOM's offering actually appears to be well-designed and, in fact, PlayStation-branded. Features include a prominent Mute button, USB charging cradle, and extended battery life. Sony has neither finalized the design nor priced a standalone model, but the SOCOM bundle is rumored to fetch $80.

Thats one ugly Bluetooth.
domgbrown @ Jun 27th 2008 12:19PM
What don't you like about it?
Noshino @ Jun 27th 2008 12:16PM
it actually looks really cool, stylish, but the MGS4 one looks more comforting...
nightmare452 @ Jun 27th 2008 12:20PM
He just think it loos ugly (I think so too)
But I am looking forward to this, but 80$ sems like a lot, expecially since I already got a bluetooth headset (but not very good)
FOXHOUND @ Jun 27th 2008 12:23PM
Admittedly, the MGS4 bluetooth & carrying case are nice... but a bit huge. And it looks like the official PS3 one is just as big(but at least it comes with a charger cradle).
If you guys already have a bluetooth headset(even ones you use with a cellphone), just register that with the console. The PS3 does pick up a wide-variety of them.
domgbrown @ Jun 27th 2008 12:30PM
It just looks like any other playstation peripheral. I don't really see what would be ugly about it. It looks pretty minimalistic, but everybody has an opinion.
I just didn't know if you were saying that soley based on the fact it was a Playstation product since your avatar says Mass Effect.
Cyro @ Jun 27th 2008 12:59PM
I just dont like the style. Thats it.
Noshino @ Jun 27th 2008 1:03PM
it would look much better without the PS logo right?
Raikage (GOLDEN Gun Of The Patriots) @ Jun 27th 2008 1:04PM
@domgbrown
So, since my avatar is Big Boss, it means I'm a PS fanboy?
LOL
Noshino @ Jun 27th 2008 1:21PM
Raikage, have you finished MGS4 yet?...
Dale @ Jun 27th 2008 1:42PM
Bluetooth HEADSET, for crying out loud. There is no such thing as "a Bluetooth". Bluetooth is the communication protocol it uses.
domgbrown @ Jun 27th 2008 2:48PM
@Raikage: 1+1=2, so if your avatar was Big Boss and you made a disparaging comment about a Microsoft peripheral without any real motive, yeah, I would probably assume that you were a fanboy.
Vault @ Jun 27th 2008 4:26PM
So would I, and I AM a Sony fanboy.
Paul @ Jun 27th 2008 11:41PM
It's a good package deal. The mute button is a nice touch.

ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Jun 28th 2008 6:42AM
Fun fact: for so-called "PS fanboy", Raikage doesn't actually have a PS3. He just so happens to enjoy the MGS game on a friend's system.

Prominent Mute "bottom"?
Cyro @ Jun 27th 2008 12:12PM
Thats one ugly Bluetooth.
Cyro @ Jun 27th 2008 12:12PM
WTF? is up with the comment system ?
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread) @ Jun 27th 2008 12:17PM
dude the comment system is way messed up lately. half the time it wont even post my comments.
riggs @ Jun 27th 2008 12:20PM
it double posts stupid comments.
ViagraFiend @ Jun 27th 2008 12:36PM
lol @ Riggs
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread) @ Jun 27th 2008 12:14PM
when i heard about the Sony embargo for today, i thought it would be something a little more excitement worthy than this. there is another one for 8am Monday so hopefully its something better. the bluetooth i got with Warhawk works fine.
Noshino @ Jun 27th 2008 12:44PM
I think that that announcement had more to do with this...

SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread) @ Jun 27th 2008 1:17PM
that is very likely. makes much more sense than a bluetooth headset lol. i hadnt even headed over to PS3fanboy yet. oh well, im not really a SOCOM fan anyway.
YinzJagz @ Jun 27th 2008 12:16PM
I still can't get my jabra to work in game.
Tiptup300 @ Jun 27th 2008 11:52PM
That's a good thing, It hurts my ears terribly....wait a second. Where'd it go....
McWeen @ Jun 27th 2008 12:17PM
Bluetooth ear pieces are a great way to let others know you are a douche bag.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread) @ Jun 27th 2008 12:18PM
i lol'd.
that's exactly why i use mine in my house.
domgbrown @ Jun 27th 2008 12:27PM
What would you rather use to talk to your teamates on multiplayer games instead?
NATO_Duke @ Jun 27th 2008 12:48PM
Calm down domgbrown, it was a funny comment about their use in general. When someone walks by on the street with one pretty much everyone thinks they look like a jackass.
xGeneral DEATHx @ Jun 27th 2008 1:03PM
Mainly because they look like they're talking to themselves.
Anticrawl @ Jun 27th 2008 1:26PM
Only time I ever use any headset is when I'm at home and need to do other stuff or driving because I drive stick.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Jun 27th 2008 2:05PM
This is true.
xGeneral DEATHx @ Jun 27th 2008 2:12PM
It certainly does help when driving a stick...especially when you have to eat breakfast on the road. :-)
domgbrown @ Jun 27th 2008 2:53PM
Sorry, I didn't realize you were referring to people walking around in public talking to themselves. I agree, pretty Douchey.
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Jun 27th 2008 12:34PM
I heard about the headset on Qore. Hoping it gets a price and is sold seperate from SOCOM. Not that I don't have any love for SOCOM, I just love booting a variety of games directly from XMB and if that option existed for SOCOM, I know I would play it more.
Kodros @ Jun 27th 2008 1:18PM
Yeah, I'm surprised that nobody really mentioned that. From the Qore interview, they said that it was going to have two mics for noise cancellation or something.
Buckshot @ Jun 27th 2008 12:38PM
I thought the MGS4 headset was the "offical" headset???
Kodros @ Jun 27th 2008 1:19PM
Yeah, it was officially a piece of garbage.
Trev @ Jun 27th 2008 1:26PM
It was also made by Pelican.
j.howlett @ Jun 27th 2008 12:41PM
looks good to me. i might pick up the bundle for it. i heard the MGS4 headset wasn't to good so unless i see it for cheap i'll stick to what i have.
Vault @ Jun 27th 2008 4:24PM
I've heard exactly opposite. A lot of people aren't charging it before they test it (and are therefore getting crappy quality due to reeeaaallly low battery).
j.howlett @ Jun 27th 2008 6:05PM
see that why i'm holding out, haven't heard enough. i'll still probably wait since i have one and try to catch a deal.
Sidd @ Jun 27th 2008 1:06PM
That headset actually looks pretty nice. This is coming from a PCWii60 owner. I would love to have one of those for the 360. And $80 is a great price for the BUNDLE. A normal game would cost $60 so it's only 20 more for a nice headset with cradle. The only reason I don't want a PS3 is I only like one game for it.
Mr.ESC @ Jun 27th 2008 1:27PM
Yay Socom!
xGeneral DEATHx @ Jun 27th 2008 2:13PM
Hehe...was that game mentioned somewhere in this post?
;-)
meist3r @ Jun 27th 2008 1:41PM
How much is a standard bluetooth headset? I think most will be better off buying the game alone and getting some third party headset from a phone shop. Back in the day I wasted money on the Battlefield 2:Command Edition that came with a craptastic headset. To make a long story short: I'm not a big fan of bundles like this.
horngreen @ Jun 27th 2008 2:02PM
If it comes with Socom $80 is a good price unless the game is just awful. Hell the 360 one is $60 all by itself. I just use the one that came with the 360 as it works fine and I'm smart enough to handle wires!
Joel @ Jun 27th 2008 2:50PM
ps3 and socom will be my first sony system and game ever! I will definitely pick this up!
Dwag @ Jun 27th 2008 9:52PM
We already know that stand alone its gonna be like 60 bucks so it would be encoraged to buy the bundle its just how things work.
I'll get it but barely anyone talks online unless its to diss or act like dicks for no reason what so ever.
