An aerial view of Halo 3's Cold Storage [update]

Update: The 7th Columnist has as interesting analysis of a "hidden message' found at the end of the Weekly Update. We wouldn't get our hopes up too high, but Bungie may be hinting at a special 48 hour Bungie Day playlist as well as the release of Cold Storage for free on 7/7/08. Interesting stuff ...

Last night's Bungie Weekly Update brought information about a few Halo 3 matchmaking updates, July's Double EXP Weekends and confirmation that Bungie Day 2008 (7/7/08) will be celebrated just like last year with another round of exclusive one day only gamer pictures and theme download as well as mention that they have a "few other goodies planned." Exciting! But most importantly, Bungie released a few top-down aerial views of Cold Storage (viewable in the gallery below) so players can analyze the differences between it and Chill Out as well as plan their path of destruction. Bungie even offered up two versions, with weapon and power-up spawn locations or without. Speaking of which, could Cold Storage be one of those free special goodies for Bungie Day? Only time will tell kids ... be patient.

Only thing is that there is only one BR on the map... make it more AR fight. The map does looked balanced through.

Have they yet said if the current legendary map pack will ever be free, officially said I mean?

Acording to a bungie weekly update from last month (or two) they said they don't have any plans to EVER make it free.

That's too bad. Well, I guess my Halo 3 experience has seen better days. It was fun while it was free.

Ugh, let Halo die already... I played the beta more than the actuall game. Theres too much other stuff to play.

im pretty sure they said they dont plan on the legendary map pack to be free. ever.

Bungie should do a bet. If we reach 7 billion by 7/7 we get the map for free. Yeah, I know Bungie is a company looking to profit, but it would still be cool.

Technically it's Microsoft looking to profit; they are the ones who set the Marketplace prices.

As far as i know it's the devs that set there own prices, although as Microsoft did publish Halo 3 they might have some say in that specific game.

Still gay that they opt to charge us for all the maps, cause they didn't make enough off halo 3 already.

Maybe, but I remember a brouhaha last year with I think it was Gears of War? but the devs wanted the maps free and Microsoft said no.

i like the get to 7 billion and the map is free idea.

Seriously, just let Halo die off.... Halo 1 was good, 2 was alright, 3 is f**king garbage... seriously now people. your playing tha same game over and over again.... I dont get how people can do this. New features added... um... forge, which isnt a map editor really.... a bubble shield, WOW!!! ( That really blew my mind away, really raised tha bar for FPS games!!!) Oh, tha cam system or video whatever, was actually about tha only thing worth while. Besides that, same old shoot while jumpin like a idiot, and throw grenade, or melee from 10 feet away, and boom! THIS IS REALLY FUN..... god I love Halo... ( can you sense tha sarcasm???)

Why do you care if you hate the game?.. Go play something else. People obviously still adore the halo franchise. You're mainly in the minority.

Obviously Cold Storage is going to be free on 7/7.

Bungie was being sarcastic when they said the legendary maps not going to be free. The addition of "ever" at the end of their statement should be a clue to those of you that are sarcastically challenged.

I think all remakes should be free.
