David Hayter needs your help to write Metal Gear Solid movie

Don't misinterpret that headline -- David Hayter, who has voiced the role of Solid Snake since ... well, since Solid Snake could speak, doesn't need you to submit your fan fiction to help piece together the plot of the supposedly upcoming Metal Gear Solid movie (though we're sure he would find your homemade Otacon/Sniper Wolf erotic literature wildly fascinating).
According to a recent IMDB post from Hayter himself, he needs fans of his work and of Kojima's epic series to email a certain Sony Pictures rep and politely suggest that Hayter be the one to pen the film's script. He's got the credentials to do so, having written screenplays for the first two X-Men movies and the upcoming adaptation of Alan Moore's Watchmen. We can also assume that he's played the game he would be adapting, giving him a significant edge over most screenwriters of ludologically-inspired films.

His written script of Watchmen isn't the one being used for the film, although the script being used has borrowed from his.
Thatoneguy64 @ Jun 28th 2008 7:13PM
And I mean HEAVILY borrows, but the finished script was written by Alex Tse.
Neil @ Jun 28th 2008 7:18PM
As long as Hideo is a major part of the project I'd be ok with Hayter writing the movie.
Obie @ Jun 28th 2008 7:18PM
The movie better be based on the first game, I swear if I see those "Jack and Rose" codec scenes from part 2 done by real actors I will hang myself.
EcnobA @ Jun 29th 2008 12:49AM
dont you mean the third game?
because the firt game is when snake faced big boss
Vegnagun bwf @ Jun 29th 2008 1:44AM
No, this is Metal Gear Solid, not Metal Gear. Metal Gear Solid is the first in the series.
Vegnagun bwf @ Jun 29th 2008 1:45AM
To clarify, I mean if they want to make a Metal Gear Solid film, it means they aren't going to start at Metal Gear.
Vincent Avatar @ Jun 29th 2008 1:53AM
Well, EcnobA, if you want to try and be a smarty-pants about it, it's technically the fourth game, as there were two canon games before MGS.
But pretty much everyone knew what Obie was talking about without your incorrect "correction."
Alex @ Jun 29th 2008 9:40AM
MGS 1 will be the only one to make a film out of. Never played 4, but usually anything this a ': *Subtitle*' are turd. Anyway, I NEVER want to see a naked ladyboy running about and sneezing again. Especially not in this age of High Definition movies.
Boy With Balls on Chin @ Jun 30th 2008 10:16AM
Didnt they already make a Metal Gear Solid movie?
I think it was called Metal Gear Solid 4.
syrik zero @ Jun 28th 2008 7:21PM
I hope they don't have him sneaking around with a whole squad like what they did with the Doom movie. Both games you're supposed be mostly be alone and movies never seem to leave it that way. Other than I am Legend and I thought that was great
Chaosfox @ Jun 28th 2008 7:25PM
MGS1 would be a solid movie by itself however david NEEDS to dub his voice in.
my mind wouldn't be able to process a actor playing snake unless he does.
Obie @ Jun 28th 2008 7:49PM
Dude, a ton of other actors could do Snakes voice, and did you forget that Hayter is emulating "Snake Plissken" from the "Escape..." movies?
http://youtube.com/watch?v=3QIcUHg-IIk
Anyways, no dub would be silly.
Noshino @ Jun 28th 2008 8:06PM
Obbie,
Yah, we know that the character is based on Snake Plissken, but it still wouldn't be the same without Hayter
Obie @ Jun 28th 2008 8:41PM
Then make Hayter play Snake, heck he looks like him.
No dubbing tho, it is always very obvious when one actor dubs another.
Noshino @ Jun 28th 2008 8:56PM
I actually think that this dude looks more like Snake...

IMHO, they should get this guy:

Dr. Stabbingworth @ Jun 28th 2008 7:25PM
Fine, as long as he didn't also write X-Men 3.
Crowbar @ Jun 28th 2008 8:48PM
He didn't, fortunately.
I don't have anything else to add to that. I like your username, though.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 28th 2008 9:50PM
Yeah I was wondering why that was such a bad movie. Now I know.
t_m @ Jun 29th 2008 6:16AM
Also, the first two x-men were directed by the guy who did The Usual Suspects. The third was directed by the guy who did Rush Hour. I think thats all that needs to be said.
Hyams @ Jun 28th 2008 7:28PM
Sounds good to me. He wrote and co-wrote the scripts for the two good X-men films, knows the MGS series inside out, and is actually a fan of the series (he's the only voice actor from the origional game who actually played and completed it).
Hayter FTW, yah?
sad robot @ Jun 28th 2008 7:32PM
i would not mind him starring as snake either, he IS the voice...hope it happens
GANNONSMASH @ Jun 29th 2008 2:26PM

Proof David Hayter should play Snake.
Wolvie @ Jun 28th 2008 7:46PM
"When they come out... does it hurt?"
"Every time."
007craft @ Jun 28th 2008 7:56PM
I hear the movie is gonna have 90 mintues of interactive game playing. Oh wait....
Moofree @ Jun 28th 2008 8:01PM
"Snake! SNAAAAKKEEE!!"
Man this thing could write itself!
niindre @ Jun 28th 2008 8:02PM
My advice... please don't.
Jakka @ Jun 28th 2008 8:38PM
My advice...listen to the guy above.
Robert Maynard @ Jun 28th 2008 9:39PM
Thirded.
niindre @ Jun 28th 2008 11:26PM
When have they ever made a good movie out of a videogame franchise? It's just better if they don't ruin another even if their intentions are good...
BPM [MKWii: 2578 3585 8392] @ Jun 29th 2008 1:44AM
When has there even been a video game movie written by someone actually involved with the game itself?
Granted, his only work on MGS is voice actor. But he knows a hell of a lot more about this game than any other game-movie director has about the games they made movies of.
Alex @ Jun 29th 2008 9:41AM
Agreed. WHAT THE HELL WAS (S)HITMAN?
Alex @ Jun 29th 2008 9:43AM
I wish there was an edit button...
ALSO DOOM!/POO(M)
Anyway, I'd quite like to see a Nintendogs movie.
bounchfx @ Jun 28th 2008 8:07PM
wait, didn't the movie just come out a couple weeks ago?
just kidding, I'd be all over this in a second, especially if he wrote it, or played snake. and if kojima was involved (WHICH HE SHOULD BE).
or if they have a different actor as snake just have david voice over them. sweeeet.
dark_inchworm @ Jun 28th 2008 8:26PM
Please Sony, don't be a Hayter.
Eddy @ Jun 28th 2008 10:22PM
hahahah XD! don't be a hayter XD!!!
tydeca.weebly.com
Vaitork @ Jun 28th 2008 8:32PM
Done.
Probably won't work, but hey, why not try anyway?
Fatass of Rebuttalness @ Jun 28th 2008 8:34PM
I'm down, as long as he does all of the narration work, and voices every single character.
Jordan Biffle @ Jun 28th 2008 8:59PM
he also wrote The Scorpion King.
journeyman @ Jun 28th 2008 9:06PM
Movie? I think an MGS game would be more appropriate, guys.
DangerMouse @ Jun 28th 2008 9:04PM
Game's aren't books. They don't a movie to show a visual representation of it, it's already there. Maybe in the 90's back when you could only get about 1000 colors on the screen at once, but games are near movie quality anyway. The only purpose a Metal Gear movie would have is tp make a quick dollar for those involved, since we know it will suck and will cater to a certain audience. Just leave the damn game alone...want a movie? Play the game.
KEFIOX @ Jun 28th 2008 9:09PM
Lol @ the fanfic.
Ethan @ Jun 28th 2008 9:59PM
Oh, so that's why X-Men 3 was awful.
Chigurh @ Jun 28th 2008 10:14PM
It better god damn work. I'll be sending horse heads to Sony's office for the next 23 years if they screw this up. Let Kojima direct (with an established DOP) and Hayden play Snake. Dude might need some roids or a good muscle suit, but hey, I can't think of anyone else for the job.
Now everyone who can code, make a robot that sends Sony Pictures 500 emails a day concerning this matter. Mine is already done.
Atr-Slzr-Ctr @ Jun 29th 2008 1:55AM
Hayden doesn't look like Snake. Hell, He doesn't even look Vader!!
DeaconGTG @ Jun 28th 2008 10:28PM
If a MGS movie HAS to be made, then yes, Hayter should write it. But do we really need one? If it doesn't fall the plot of one of the 4 games (I'm assuming it'll be the first seeing as that it's the only one that can really stand on it's own) then we pretty much know the full story already. And if it's an original story it's going to feel way too out of cannon.
A Halo movie I can get, because there's plenty of story to flesh out. Even some kind of a Grand Theft Auto movie might work. But Metal Gear? It's already a movie. Let it be.
Chigurh @ Jun 28th 2008 10:38PM
I'd like to see a quadrilogy.
Same context as the game releases:
Solid
Sony of Liberty
Snake Eater
Guns of the Patriots
Halo movies are for people who need to be shot with a cattle gun btw. Don't be that guy.
DeaconGTG @ Jun 28th 2008 10:43PM
Well I didn't say I actually WANTED to see a Halo movie. I just feel it would work a little better.
To me, a Metal Gear Solid movie would be like playing through The Twin Snakes. Might look a little prettier, but does that make it worth the price of admission?
Alex @ Jun 29th 2008 9:47AM
I will be happy if it is as well ported as the LOTR books were.
