Ugh, X-Men...what a shit-tastic movie. I bet he wrote that horrible "joke" Storm says to Toad before she blows him away. If I were him, I'd not be fessing up to that fact anytime soon.

Actually, Joss Whedon wrote the line and Halle Berry butchered it. Still, I suspect Hayter's not the type to write snappy dialogue. They can always hire a few script doctors after Hayter turns in his first draft.

Seriously? Joss Whedon wrote that atrocity?

I guess that if they'd had someone with the right kind of wit, charisma or attitude then they might have pulled it off (and hale berry certainly doesn't have those).. but still..

Hayter does have some serious credentials. I'd be even more inclined to see the movie if he penned it.

Good point sir! You've been voted up!

Great Idea! But it must be produced exactly like Beowulf. No plain jane CGI. MoCap everything just like Beowulf.

I'll wait and see how the watchmen movie turns out. I know he didn't write the final draft, but he's co-credited, so a fair proportion of it must still be his.

If they can pull off that movie I'll be amazed (but also very happy).

PS/ If they edited out all the crap then MGS could make a pretty good movie. (and even a pretty good game!).

But then the X-men movies could also have done with a little editorial control. They were 90% awesome and 10% WTF.

Ok so this is kinda cheesy, but if he were directed well and beefed up...Hayter could do live action Snake easy.

I saw that when I was looking up his face!hahaha

I agree. Some steroids or a good muscle suit and he could do it! Sign me up for tickets to a good DLP theater and preorder me the BD now.

Pending they have Hayter onboard as an actor and Kojima doing the directing (with an experience DOP)

He actually does look enough like Snake that if he got in a bit better shape, then he could pull it off...I had been thinking that's why he has been keeping the face scruff now that the movie is looming.

For anyone interested, Hayter talks about his ideas for the script in one of the newer Bonus Rounds over at Game Trailers...
http://www.gametrailers.com/bonusround.php?ep=22

If you don't feel like watching the whole thing,(I forget which part he mentions it in; one of the latter,) basically, he sees the movie centering on Shadow Moses like the first game, starting off with Snake in his wilderness reclusion being coerced into the mission. Apparently, Sony did not like that way though...too true to the game to be a shitty movie adaptation, huh Sony?

Anyways, I'm whole heartedly with Hayter on this one...he has played all the games, knows them well, and is in my opinion the man for the mission.

In case anyone cares, this is the email I sent to the Sony Rep...you can let me know if it sucks, although it's out there now!

"I'll try to be brief, I know your time is valuable. I understand that Mr. Hayter's script ideas are not too popular over at Sony. To my understanding, Hayter starts the film off with Snake in wilderness reclusion, being coerced to Shadow Moses Island for another mission. Honestly, if there is a Metal Gear Solid movie, that is the way to go.

Hayter is not merely the voice of Solid Snake in the U.S....he is the man for the job. He has:

* A vast knowledge of the convoluted Metal Gear storyline.
* A direct experience in the process of making the Japanese series work in America.
* Played all of the games (which I doubt any other screenplay writer would be willing to do).
* Written various scripts for successful action movies, such as X-Men and X-Men II, that are not only great to watch but captivate and linger with the viewer.

You have a few obvious options here...the first choice is to make another high-budget action movie the likes of Doom or Resident Evil that may make a decent amount of revenue in theaters and on DVD, but will ultimately disappoint and be passed over by many for being one-dimensional. The other option is to let someone like Hayter work on the script, someone who knows what the series is and isn't...take what is unique about the story (the idea of one lone, stealthy soldier behind enemy lines that has yet to be done really well, the relationships of the major characters who aid Snake in his mission, the outlandish villains that could come right out of a graphic novel, and the intense action done in short bursts with characters the viewer is engaged with and actually cares about).

I may not work for the film industry, but I have seen a lot of films in my lifespan ranging the gamut of genres. I know why every time movies are adapted from video games, the fans simultaneously groan. I urge you, do something different. Look at the big entertainment money makers in games and fantasy...comic book adaptations with endearing heroes, the innovative Wii, the way World of Warcraft caters to its fans and makes them ultimately happy and fixated with the universe they play in. Those are just a few examples, but all fit respectively...

* Make Snake someone we'll love to root for.
* Go out on a limb and do a movie that no one else will, just like the games did...stealth with bursts of meaningful action.
* Make something the fans will enjoy, and others will see the light as well.

You will be rewarded."

Hopefully they don't make it so that you have to know the story of mgs 1,2,3,4 to follow along. That's why I found the final fantasy movie to be very strange.

Noshino Wrote "I actually think that this dude looks more like Snake..."

I agree Eric bana would be a perfect choice to play Snake. Check these pictures from Black Hawk Down and tell me a better actor for this role.

Eric Bana must be the worst actor working today. (though I have't seen him in anything recently, so maybe people have finally noticed).

This movie already exits, and so does the character.

It was called "Escape From New York" and the character is Snake Plisskin.

Don't believe me? Check the game's history yourself. Kojima (the hack) admits to ripping off Snake Plisskin and the feel of "Escape From New York" for his "masterpiece".

So right now they're making a movie of a game based on a movie. LAME.

It doesn't matter WHO writes the script. It will be a lame rip-off of Snake Plisskin.

"(though we're sure he would find your homemade Otacon/Sniper Wolf erotic literature wildly fascinating)"

...Tee-hee!

I'll help you out, Hayter! He has indeed played the entirety of the Metal Gear series, so I would definitely put my trust into the voice of Solid Snake. However...which game are they basing the movie off of? It's impossible to put even all of the Solids together in a general 2-3 hour film. :| The first game is the only one that can stand on its own, but if they take the chronological approach, they need to start with 3...I don't know what they're gonna do. This'll be an interesting take, definitely (considering the game is a movie in and of itself).

I bet not many people knew that he halved his own wage for Twin Snakes so that Otacon's actor would come back...

I think he would be a great writer and possibly actor, definitly if it is CGI, though I would prefer it to be Live Action. Bana certainly looks the part, but I don't know if he could do the voice.

I think Shanks ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Shanks ) would be a good Otacon.
