Here are the first Diablo 3 screenshots

After months (years?) of speculation, Diablo 3 was just announced by Blizzard at its Worldwide Invitational event in Paris. With an eight-year hiatus following Diablo 2's release, the first question on everyone's mind seems to be: how's it look? The answer – perhaps unsurprisingly given Blizzard's focus on their fans and reasonable system requirements – seems to be: "a lot like Diablo 2."
Ah, but first impressions can be deceiving. The Diablo 3 FAQ says that the game "runs on a custom 3D game engine for rendering full-3D characters and environments" and even "uses a custom physics engine that allows for realistic object dynamics and cloth simulation." Seems to us that – like Blizzard's other recent update, Starcraft 2 – any resemblence to earlier Diablo titles is a design goal, not a technological limitation.

Looks great... Also to that jerk that said Blizzard was laughing at those saying it wasn't the Lich King... So, um yeah... How you doing today?

The PC nay-sayers have a lot to answer for:
Diablo 3
Starcraft 2
Left 4 Dead + *insert whatever valve announces next* & steam as whole
Dawn of War 2
Wrath of Litch King
Spore
Battlefield Heroes
Sims 3
Not to mention all the games that will have simultaneous console releases as well, like Far Cry 2, Fallout 3 etc. and which will enable higher resolution graphics (for those with recent PCs at least).
The PC is sooo not dead as a gaming platform that I hope I don't hear it said again for a long time.
Long Live Valve! Long Live Blizzard!

Don't forget STALKER: Clear Sky, Empire Total War, Crysis: Warhead, Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir expansion, and eventually Dragon Age.

So my question now goes from how does it look, to when does it come out? Because if it comes out by the end of the year (doubtful but still...) then I'm screwed. I graduate in December and if it comes out before then, there's no way in hell I'm gonna do well on exams. There's a 2 and a half year blind spot in my life thanks to Diablo 2 and I'm afraid that's going to happen again.
