Nintendo Power's Sword in the Preview

As it's been known to do, Nintendo Power wrapped up its latest issue promising a new unannounced title for next month's cover. Given the exclusive reveals the magazine has featured lately, such as Mega Man 9 for WiiWare and the Castlevania Judgment 3D fighter, both arguably megatons, it's hard not to expect another huge surprise!

Nintendo Power's preview page for the next issue brandishes the above image and a quick prank on Earthbound fans (as if they needed more teasing): "We'll kick off the next 20 years of Nintendo Power with more big reveals, including a top-secret cover story fit for a king. It's got a lot of heart. Just kidding. It's Mother 3. Just kidding. Please look forward to it."

What could it be? A sequel to Square's lackluster King's Knight? Even better, perhaps a remake of Capcom's Knights of the Round? What are your gueses?

I'd imagine it's not Kingdom Hearts, as right after saying 'king' and 'heart' they say 'Just kidding.' Not that that means it's not possible, but I'd lean towards something other than that.

This time i would say that is actually possible, since the next Nintendo Power will be their Post-E3 issue, and Nintendo will probably dish out something about the rumored Retro Studios Zelda spinoff, or the ground-up full sequel

It won't be an exclusive reveal, if true, and these exclusive reveals always tend to be smaller in scope than we imagined (people thought the Order of Ecclesia moon was for Mother, after all), so it could be some sort of third party title, and that's what i would bet on if it wasn't their post-E3 issue

In what bizarre alternate universe does that look anything like the Master sword? It has a blade and a hilt. That's about as far as the similarities go.

Retro Studios is not making a Zelda console game. Nintendo would never let a western developer make it where it would be out of the creative control of Shigeru Miyamoto.

Where/how did that rumor even start?

this is actually the first time I ever hear about Retro Studios developing a Zelda game, I guess he made that up.

and no, it doesn't look like zelda's master sword at all, though it would be really cool to have a zelda game made specifically for the wii :(

I think the rumor started after an interview with Miamoto, where he stated that he's liking the idea of a first person Zelda game. So, first person... Retro studios... Metroid Prime... Zelda Prime... you get the picture.

@ Sonic_13, it's not like they utterly lose creative control when they farm it out to another developer. Folks from EAD worked closely with Retro Studios on the first Metroid Prime to ensure satisfaction on everyone's part on the canonical development of the world

I too thought it looked a little like the master sword. "It's got a lot of heart", could be the hearts in a zelda game. It will be the post E3 issue so maybe. On the other hand, if it does have something to do with Kingdom hearts, it will be the ds game with the weird name, not KH3.

How about Wii Music Orchestra?
Nintendo mentioned it way back, and then they havent said anything since! It would fall into their little Wii series of games (sports, play, fit, etc)...so they might think it's something big. Anyone else think this might be it?

the mag said king, heart(kingdom hearts has plenty to do with hearts), and 3. put it all together and the closest thing u can get is kingdom hearts 3. Plus in the background it seems to be a sword with a circular sheild(the king's sword and the knight's sheild).

I want it to be zelda, but it won't be.

I'm hoping Startropics. "You've got a big heart!" :) Too bad a new Startropics will never actually happen though :( . (And the sword would be irrelevant anyway.)

It's a sword! Zelda has a sword! It must be Zelda! That's not much of a leap at all! It makes perfect sense!

It's probably something we know about, so I'm going with Little King Story.

But since it should be the post-E3 issue, I won't rule out it being Retro's rumored Zelda game.

My guess is another Fire Emblem(sword reminds me of Marth's from SSBB) game or details from the next Zelda from E3.

Well, they ruled out everything that the said except "Please look forward to it," so we're left with please, look, forward, to, it, sword, circle, blue.

There was nothing in the moon though, so it could be anything.

Supposedly if you zoomed into the moon at a certain point by a lot...you could see CASTLEVANIA in small letters.

Sword in the Stone: I'd play that game. It was a favourite of mine when I was younger.

Im am going for a new Zelda game for this one, its the only game for a nintendo machine that has any significant link to a sword. As for the retro studios making a Zelda game I heard that rumour its to do with Nintendo wanting to tkae the Zelda series in a new direction and Nintendo had rather alot of control over the first Metroid so I dont think that will be an issue. Its probably going to be a spinoff, its been hinted at more than once that Midna will be making a return.

It's OBVIOUSLY Kid Niki's mystical spinning sword.

Fire Emblem DS

fire emblem ds is old news because there are screens of it on various websites. the first thing i thought of when i saw it was marths sword from fire emblem but see above, so why would they make another one when radiant dawn came out recently-ish? apparently a few websites have 'confirmed' that zelda: axis of shadows is going to be released by the end of this year, and apparently it came out of shigsys mouth. this could be the new franchise title that they were talking about :O
also kid icarus is confirmed on E3s website, so its not that either.

Uhh...Didn't Kingdom Hearts involve a big-ass key for a weapon, not a sword? You know, that plus "Just kidding" kind of throw that possibility into the "highly unlikely" category. Probably not impossible, though.

I see slight Master Sword resemblances, but not too many. In fact, it only looks slightly Master-Swordy, unless it's changed quite a bit since Phantom Hourglass. We've heard rumors of a new highly realistic Zelda game, yet I don't quite think that looks hyper-realistic up there.

I don't think Ninty would allow another third-party Zelda game. I mean, look at how well the TurboGrafx-16 ones turned out. I'm putting that one in the "highly unlikely" bucket, too.

Basically everything that would NOT interest me at all is going to stay in the "plausible" category. I do, however, think that we can rule out almost everything written and focus on the picture, as all that isn't Nintendo Power "Just kidding" with us is "Please look forward to it."

In other words, we've got nothing. Just yelp out some guess and pray you get it right...Or write a really long post not really ruling out anything at all so that you can say "SEE! I said that was possible!"

Whoa there! What TurboGrafx 16 versions? Please don't sully the name of one of the most under-appreciated systems ever by mistaking it for the POS I assume you were taking about--the CD-i.

"Just KIDding", "a lot of HEART". I might be stretching here, but didn't you collect a lot of hearts in Kid Icarus?
