AP: The Who coming July 15 to Rock Band

Buried on the 11th paragraph on a story about Rock Band 2, The Associated Press reports this morning that 12 tracks from The Who "ranging from 'My Generation' to 'Who Are You' will release for Rock Band on July 15." Neither of those tracks are from the long-awaited album Who's Next, but at least this is something, right?

Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos confirms the rumors that Who's Next's release has been delayed due to missing master tracks. He said The Who's Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey helped get a best-of soundtrack together of what could be found. The songs will be $2 a piece or sold as a pack for $20. We've sent a request to Harmonix for more information and we'll update as soon as we finish putting this brick in the wall ... oops, wrong band.

Oh well it's the Who right? Wonder what they'll release Next!

Side note: Is PinBall Wizard on Who's Next? I really want to play that song in Rock Band.

Pinball Wizard is not on Who's Next, but the song's My Generation and Who Are You aren't either. They lost some Who's Next masters, which is why they're doing this compilation of hits rather than the full album.

The Rock Band 2 news today has got me giddy. I have been waiting for big bands and big hits, not the B-sides and "new music" these groups want to promote (Crue-fest pack!)

"We've sent a request to Harmonix for more information and we'll update as soon as we finish putting this brick in the wall ... oops, wrong band."

I'd have nothing against seeing this other band in Rock Band, though... Well, one can only wish, huh?

I wanted Who's Next, but to be honest this sounds as if it could be even better. My Generation and Who Are You are 2 of their best known songs that aren't from that album. Also, with the leaked DLC info file...thing, from ages ago, Pinball Wizard might be in there too.

Shame that, seen as it seems they lost the first half of the Who's Next masters, there won't be any Baba O'Riley, Bargain or My Wife. Still, fantastic!

Definitely brightened my day, though I wish that they'd be out sooner, and that a list was available soon. I think we're pretty much guaranteed to get "Who Are You?".

My Generation? That can only mean one thing: BASS SOLO!!

By "delayed" they mean "postponed indefinitely," yeah? If the master tracks were swiped or destroyed, I don't seem them magically reappearing soon. But hell, I don't remember the story behind that.

I'd rather have this, personally.

I like the Pink Floyd reference, it would definitely be good to get a few tracks out of them. Comfortably Numb, Another Brick In the Wall and High Hopes please! :P

I may in fact download this. I know, after so staunchly defending that I wouldn't do so until "Who's Next," I will fall on my sword and give Hamonix their well deserved dollarz.

This couldn't have come soon enough, as now I can haz that Pixies DLC that has been breaking my heart.

I still don't get why they can't release Who's Next as a mix of masters and covers. Obviously they've been working directly with the band, so one wouldn't think there'd be objections.

Unless there's some licensing issues with doing something like that an album...

But they've had mixes from artists before (C&C for example is a master on disc but then a cover for DLC, also the David Bowie pack had a mix of master/cover)

They could always just get the artists to record them again like GH3 did for the Sex Pistols and Living Colour.

Except for the fact that one of them is no longer with us.

Well, Sid Vicious is no longer with us either.

The who? Who cares? I'm not excited at all about this, no purchase from me. Good for you people who like it though, just too old for me.

Well I suppose Fall Out Boy is just as awesome. (sarcasm)

Nope, don't like any 70's rock except KISS, maybe a little Sabbath, but I just don't like the sound from that era. And I don't like FOB either.

My Generation is all i need :)
