Even at $15 (yet is like $11 at Amazon), T2 is NOT worth that money. It's a poor transfer, very poor. And 28 days later, is a HORRIBLE transfer :\ Definitely not worth the money.

I've also heard of bad transfer. T2, great movie. The Blu-ray, bad transfer. I heard the "extreme" DVD version upscaled is just as good as the Blu-Ray transfer.

Wasn't 28days intentionally filmed on comparatively shitty DV cams though? 600 pixel height resolution -

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/28_Days_Later#Production

The DVD version looked blurry and a bit cheap too, so I dont know why you'd need or want a HD version of it. :D 1080 won't make any difference if the stock material is crummy quality.

During the last 2 for $30 sale I picked up Memoirs of a Geisha and Appleseed Ex Machina. Memoirs was decent but not all that moving. Appleseed looks amazing in HD but the first one felt like it had more depth. Still a good buy for $15 bucks though.

I wouldn't get that particular copy of Blade Runner, since it's just the Final Cut. Instead, go out and try to find the ultimate collection. It's got the original workprint on it. If you like epic action sequences, pick up The Rock. If anyone bashes Michael Bay, just direct them to that film. Black Hawk Down and Total Recall, also good. Gattaca was a decent film. Quite a broad selection there, something for everyone.

I was able to buy the Ultimate Edition from Amazon for $20-ish in their last Blu-Ray sale. It's a much better deal, particularly since it includes the original theatrical version, which is the one I wanted.

I disagree with the fact that you haven't seen Donna Brasco. In fact, I HEARTILY disagree.

Donnie Brasco is an awesome movie. Haven't seen the quality of the BluRay as I own it on DVD, but the movie itself is a must-have if you're a fan of gangster flicks.

First off, Hellboy is not middle of the road. It's a must have.

And who hasn't seen Crimson Tide!?

I agree as well.

Some of the avoids seem too opinion-ated

Like Hitch and Fantastic Four were great movies.

Also how is Scary Movie one that bad?? Part one was the only one out of the 4 that was decent, should of at least be middle.

I'm with you on FF, but Hitch? I'll agree because Eva Mendez in blu-ray would be nice.

Avoid "28 Days Later" like the plague. The movie is great, but the video quality is awful! I've seen upscaled DVD's that look better than that ish.

"Appleseed Ex Machina" is worth checking out IMHO. The CG is done really well, and except for the girl's annoying voice, it's a pretty entertaining flick.

Are the recomendations based on the film or the quality of Blu-Ray?

Based on the film, not the quality of the Blu-ray.

Then this list is all F**cked up. "Might want your money back" on Tears of the Sun and Troy but Gattaca is a must have? WTF?

LOL @ Tears of the Sun. That movie had a storyline weaker than Commando (starring Arnold Schwarzenegger). Acting was bad, story was dumb, action was lame.

I put it in the dustbin next to Predator 2: Electric Boogaloo.

Donnie Brasco was a good movie. That belongs in the "must have, if you enjoy the genre" category. Fantastic Four was definitely horrible. Troy I actually really enjoyed but I know it's not the best movie out there. I'm just a Brad Pitt fan and enjoy sword and sandal epics. Most of the other recommendations are pretty on the target. 50 First Dates should be avoided as should Resident Evil and Hostel.

I have most of the movies on the list that I'd want to own anyway except for Goodfellas.

I have Tears of the Sun on blu-ray. looks and sounds great and its one of my favorite movies. I also have the transporter.

the movies they say are must haves are all pretty much stale and boring. I hated Blade Runner, 300 well thats for the gays.

Nice homophobic comment - you like The Transporter which has lots of shirtless Jason Statham shots, so it must be "for the gays" too.

IMHO all the films fit in the "Must-haves if you enjoy the genre" category because everyone's tastes are different, and therefore we all enjoy different genres of movies.
I thoroughly enjoy Stargate, be it SG1 or Atlantis, the first movie or the newer Ark of Truth. So IMO it is a must have if you enjoy any Stargate TV show. Something similar could be said for all of these movies.
So Mr.Tsang, as a bit of advice, even though this is a blog and you are allowed to state your opinion, it isn't fact, so don't make it sound like if it were. ;)
