Report: 'major retailer' confirms Xbox 360 price cut

With two separate retail circulars (Kmart and Radio Shack) claiming a "new low price" of $299.99 for the Xbox 360, and a major press conference scheduled for two weeks from today, there's an awful lot of smoke billowing around this rumor. Now you can add an anonymous retail report from The Hollywood Reporter to that list. The venerable trade mag said "the price move will come before ... E3." Huh, would you look at that: Microsoft's E3 press conference is scheduled on Monday just a day before E3 officially kicks off. Just saying ...

Sounds like the 20gb model will be 300 until stock runs out, and the 60gb model will replace the current core at 350. One of these game blogs is reporting that at least (kotaku? x360fanboy? ...)

No word yet, but it has to get a price cut. All SKU's. The question is how much? I can see at least 3 of my friends buying it now. They were just waiting for it to become cheaper.

If they're just replacing the 20GB pro with a 60GB pro (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/30/rumorang-60gb-xbox-360-model-is-in-20gb-is-out/), I doubt the prices will actually change. The lower price could just be to clear out the old units. Keep hoping though, nobody but MS knows for certain how this will play out.

Personally, as long as they can claim a lower price than the PS3, I don't think you'll be seeing a drop, but either or both consoles getting a price drop come E3 or holiday season wouldn't surprise me.

Btw, now you know why I dislike the PS3.No console is worth $600 dollars(£300 for a 40GB PS3 if you can find one cheap),let alone the one that had so many slip-ups in the past.

The problem with the Elite being 349.99 is that no one would buy the 20g when 50 more bucks gets them a much better system. At least that's what I think. 399.99 for the Elite :(

So does the 360 still break? I haven't heard any real news on that front recently. Have people just started to accept that they're going to break or did they actually fix it?
