Rumor: Mega Man 9 coming to XBLA, PSN too [update: Capcom denies]
According to Ars Technica, Capcom's two-dimensional return to tradition in Mega Man 9 may not be confined to WiiWare, as was originally revealed in the latest issue of Nintendo Power. The report notes that the game is currently listed as an Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network title on Capcom's E3 roster -- if true, Mega Man 9 would be the first downloadable game to jump through the doors of all three services. Capcom remains quiet on the matter, however, telling us that we'll have to wait until E3 for further news. Given the publisher's continued support of both XBLA and PSN for its downloadable games, the blue bomber will likely stick with a multi-platform approach. We can't imagine how many gamers would be left seeking retrobution otherwise.
Update: Capcom has reaffirmed to Ars that Mega Man 9 is "WiiWare only."

STILL do not want...
Fernando Rocker @ Jun 30th 2008 1:55PM
Oh sheppy... you know you will but it.
Fernando Rocker @ Jun 30th 2008 1:57PM
... *buy it.
Remember our talk the other day? I don't see why you dont to play this game just because the 8 bit graphics.
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Jun 30th 2008 2:37PM
Dude, if you recall, I called the entire affair an exercise in pure lazy capitalizing on retro as a fashion rather than a design. After seeing how Capcom pushed the graphics forward even on GBA, I can officially say, "no, I don't what the latest chapter of Megaman to raid assets from NES libraries."
I know it makes me sound like a graphics whore but YEAH, It's my job to push boundaries in engine and I have yet to talk to anyone who's an artist in the game industry who wasn't instantly disappointed as the screens came out.
By the way... you told me to show you when I was done. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c237/sheppyboy2000/streetvendor.jpg
Not "done" [er say but that's what I entered. I'm definately going back into that mother to change everything I had to rush to meet yesterdays deadline.
Shadow El @ Jun 30th 2008 3:31PM
If you "do not want" this, then don't even dare touching Mega Man 1-6. Because it's going to be like that, but newer and female.
Of course the Mega Man series takes new steps (see: 7, 8, & Bass, X, Zero, ZX) but this is a way to return to its roots in both gameplay and graphics.
Plus, we can see how far eight bits can really go after 20 years.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 30th 2008 1:33PM
Well if this is true, and if the PSN version has trophies then my struggle to decide which system to get multiplatform games will begin. I basically have to decide by coin-flip now.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 30th 2008 1:36PM
Also the game better be $5. I'm not even going to consider spending any more for a game that supposedly looks and sounds like an NES game.
FOXHOUND @ Jun 30th 2008 1:50PM
Agreed.
Though now that it's coming to the other consoles, I probably won't bother with the Wii version, simply because of the hard drive issue. And before anyone quips about the whole SD card thing... forget it, because I'm not doing it. It's ridiculous that Nintendo couldn't at least put a couple gigs on the hard drive... especially knowing a VC service has already proven profitable on the X360 before the Wii's release in 2006.
Shadow El @ Jun 30th 2008 3:34PM
Definitely getting the Wii version because of the NES-style controls. Big plus for a retro game like this.
Maximun2k10 @ Jun 30th 2008 1:34PM
Horrible game... who wants this sh** ???
DangerMouse @ Jun 30th 2008 1:44PM
I can't see this selling well for people other than Mega Man heads, but i think it's pretty damn awesome that they're taking the style all the way back the old days.
Fernando Rocker @ Jun 30th 2008 1:47PM
Oh, the kids these days...
Mr.ESC @ Jun 30th 2008 2:16PM
Fernando how do we reach these kids!
Zertoss @ Jun 30th 2008 2:18PM
I like how it isn't even out yet and it's already a horrible game.
PSN & GAMERTAG: jorojoserojas - Wii FC: 0749-8609-3752-6926 @ Jun 30th 2008 2:34PM
I'm dying to play this game. In fact, it may even be my most anticipated game at this point. I literally screamed "WHAT?! NO WAY!!! AWESOME!!!" when the story broke.
samfish @ Jun 30th 2008 2:49PM
Mega Man 9 is so far the only game I'm truly looking forward to for the rest of the year, kiddo.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 30th 2008 3:14PM
Samfish
That's what happens when you support nintendo.
I'm sorry no more trolling today. That was just too good of an opening to let go.
samfish @ Jun 30th 2008 3:35PM
It's ok, Tmac. Unlike you, I actually have good taste.
Shadow El @ Jun 30th 2008 3:36PM
Too bad Mega Man=Capcom and Mega Man 9 is multiplatform.
Don't really see where "supporting Nintendo" comes into play except for the fact that the original Mega Man games were on NES. But what else was Capcom gonna release them on, SEGA Mega Drive?
tmacairjordan87 @ Jun 30th 2008 3:40PM
It's ok you don't have to use the good taste excuse to cover up the fact nintendo has nothing coming out. You can admit it, I won't tell anyone. Promise.
Shadow El @ Jun 30th 2008 3:43PM
Where "nothing coming out"=...
*looks at Nintendo's upcoming release list*
...apparently nothing coming out. >_>
Jhongerkong @ Jun 30th 2008 5:11PM
snap
Jhongerkong @ Jun 30th 2008 5:13PM
damn, that was meant to be after samfish's comment
that guy @ Jun 30th 2008 1:44PM
Who wants this? I do.
Mega Man 1, 2 and 3, absolutely, without a doubt still hold up today in terms of sheer fun (and 1 in particular is more challenging than a lot of the supposed 'difficult' games these days). In addition, the music in 2 and 3 is still some of the best ever made in a video game.
So if this game is anywhere near either of those, sign me up for whatever $$$ Capcom would like.
Kids these days ... wouldn't know a good game if it punched 'em in the face!
Maximun2k10 @ Jun 30th 2008 1:49PM
Well, I'm 30, yes i played all the Mega Man 200 years ago, but that's it, call classic or whatever, but i would be a lot more happy, if they release Megaman X.
Mr.ESC @ Jun 30th 2008 2:18PM
Then you should Play Megaman Maverick Hunter X on the PSP! It is made of nostalgia and awesomeness.
DO IT F*GG*T!
(Sorry If that sounds aggressive)
Obie @ Jun 30th 2008 1:46PM
I never could get into the MegaMan games, the platforming was awkward and it pissed me off he could not shoot diagonally.
But that's just me.
xFenixKnightx @ Jun 30th 2008 2:01PM
Same here, never played a Megaman game in my life. My buddies played them but I just always thought they looked and sounded generic for some reason. Of course to each his own this is just IMO. Never understood why they call him Mega "Man" either. Looks like a puny school boy. Who knows, maybe I missed out on some good stuff...
=/
Fernando Rocker @ Jun 30th 2008 2:04PM
Fenix... Megaman series is very good.
Megaman games were one of my most played games back in the NES days...
You should grab a copy of the Megaman and Megaman X collection.
Obie @ Jun 30th 2008 2:05PM
I respect the games, some things they did really well like the clever bosses and the music is still impressive. Listen to this ditty:

This version sounds very good too. =p

Obie @ Jun 30th 2008 2:11PM
Someone should make that a Guitar Hero custom. :)
xFenixKnightx @ Jun 30th 2008 2:24PM
Are there any Megaman games for DS? Man, soundtracks like those rocked! Remember this?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yV367JJNdI&feature=related
Fernando Rocker @ Jun 30th 2008 2:28PM
Fenix
Yes, I mean... classic 2D classic sidescrolling, yes. Megaman ZX series.
There is also the RPG's series, but meh... not my style.
Good series are: Megaman, Megaman X, Megaman Zero, and Megaman ZX.
Fernando Rocker @ Jun 30th 2008 2:32PM
Fenix
In fact, the guys who are developing Megaman 9 are the same developers that did Megaman Zero and Megaman ZX.
baby sea tuna @ Jun 30th 2008 1:52PM
Wow, people still play Mega Man?!
Zertoss @ Jun 30th 2008 2:02PM
Hells yeah!
Mr.ESC @ Jun 30th 2008 2:19PM
F*CK YEAH!
Roto13 @ Jun 30th 2008 2:30PM
Yeah, but you have to be pretty hardcore. B)

Damn straight!
Pedobear @ Jun 30th 2008 5:20PM
Playing megaman right now.
John Z @ Jun 30th 2008 2:02PM
The announcement of and reaction to Mega Man 9 has proven one thing to me: People will b^%$h about anything, no matter how awesome.
Double J @ Jun 30th 2008 2:08PM
It'll be awesome playing it on the Wii. But if for some godforsaken horrible reason they DON'T allow you to use the Wii-mote sideways NES style, they are nothing more than failures. Mega Man with a D-Pad > Mega Man with a joystick (or joystiq, if you will.
Roto13 @ Jun 30th 2008 2:31PM
I really wouldn't worry too much about that. I can't see them trying to make a game look and feel like a NES game without letting you use the closest thing to a NES controller available these days.
Jacksons @ Jun 30th 2008 2:11PM
Sweet! ...But I'll admit that I find it a little odd to go from NES to SNES to PS1 then back to NES. Next up, 'Ratchet and Clank Past: Going Retro' for the PS1?
Antonio @ Jun 30th 2008 2:13PM
Doesn't XBLA require support for 720p and 1080i? I guess Capcom can throw up a border or something.
Fernando Rocker @ Jun 30th 2008 2:18PM
8 bit can be done in any resolution ¬ ¬
The NES was only 256x240...
Antonio @ Jun 30th 2008 3:46PM
Well, um, duh. Running it high-res does raise some issues though.
Travis @ Jun 30th 2008 2:17PM
Megaman 8 was a gay affair...9 better not be the same
Zertoss @ Jun 30th 2008 2:23PM
The gameplay in 8 was great, it was just those horrible English cutscenes. I never want to hear Dr. Light's voice again.
At least, not until rabbit/duck season.
