I wish they would hurry up and release trophies for GTA IV though, that's a game I'd happily play through a second time.
When one system requires them from the start, and another one adds them over a year later via an OS update, that's what happens.
Sony couldn't force developers to retroactively support the trophy system. These games were finished long ago - there's no way you could expect each company to go in and change the way the games work, especially when it doesn't benefit the developer at all.
Oh, and if you want the platinum trophy, you're going to have to play through this game a fair few times. I'm on my 4th round.
sony need 2 sort it out

Trophies mean nothing to me then since I don't have this games!
BTW, a lot of people have Super Stardust HD.
(Purchased HAZE) *platinum trophy unlocked*
(Achievement Unlocked!) -1000gp
*Just got jacked by PS3 for my achievement system*
They only offer, what, 12 games with trophies thus far, of which only two games are out by my count. Meaning the trophy system is useless to me, and will probably be useless for a while now, but at least its out there. Now I just hope Sony forces developer to implemented from now on.
Its a strange announcement - only a partial list. Lenient? How about some clarity?
I know it says you have to 're-play' your games in order to receive the trophies (due to the ability to download/copy/share game save files and potential trophy exploits), but what about online games that have your stats tied to your PSN acct?
Guess we'll find out Wednesday now won't we?

Would you like to re-flip?
I'll just take this quarter and put it somewhere safe (NOT in my pocket), and we'll call it square.

I might actually have to give MGS4 back and buy my own if they support trophies.

Just an opinion.

I fail to see how it would adversely affect your gaming experience when you don't care about obtaining any of them in the first place.
Unless of course you are pretty insecure about your online avatar.
If only it were true.
Listen to 1Up Yours lately. Or just play TF2 lately. The new achivement-style awards in that game completely distort the multiplayer game. Now that the Pyro has upgrades on the table, 2/3rds of people in the game are playing Pyros (while the other 1/3rd generally are medics, still catching up on their earned upgrades).
Remember the outcry over the achievement where you had to team kill?
Ignoring achievements is only an 80% solution. Unfortunately in multiplayer games other people's achievement farming can still detract from your play.
If you can't tell, I'm somewhat anti-achievement (and trophy) and I'm massively anti-gamerscore.
While I see your point, I don't agree that its that big of an issue. How many games are out on the 360 and how many of those have these issues? I can think of 2 - GoW and TF2. This is not some huge online problem that plagues the system. Yeah, in those games there seems to be an annoying achievement whore element, but normally it has absolutely no effect on gameplay other than what you allow it to have.
Anyway, you're forgetting the factor of 'fun'. Sure it's 'pointless' to unlock achievements... But non-gamers say the same thing about games in general. So for a gamer to be saying achievements are pointless is... pointless.
I guess my point should have been more specific. I'm not sure Sony should be spending the time and resources getting the trophy system working. In-Game XMB, I'm all for it. Trophies, not so much. I'd rather Sony push ahead and do their own thing, instead of trying to copy-cat some other system.
You actually go through the game picking up gold, silver and pewter trophy-looking objects and they don't appear as trophies outside the game?
I'm rather surprised.

Ah, you'll just have to play it again.
"Sony broke out its short list of trophy system inductees today. Not surprisingly, the first confirmed titles to gain trophy support are all first-party games."
That's what it was supposed to be. A list of FIRST PARTY GAMES. A quote from the official blog:
"PS3 users can expect to see additional games bringing Trophies support to their feature sets through 2008 and beyond, providing even greater opportunity to showcase their accomplishments and compete with friends. The following first-party games are also slated to offer Trophy support:"
Get a grip guys. This is getting a little bit annoying...
