Activision CEO sticks to console price drop message
With a gallon of milk costing less than a gallon of gas in many places, it's not surprising to hear Activision CEO Bobby Kotick keep on message about console price cuts in this economy. Speaking with the Times Online, he believes there is real demographic expansion within the industry's customer base, but feels the cost of purchasing hardware is "prohibitive."
He points out that during economic slowdowns the game industry does well because people are looking for entertainment in their homes. Kotick may get his wish if the rumors of an incoming Xbox 360 price drop are true; at the same time, NPD figures show consumers warming up to the PS3's price. Meanwhile, we ponder making a car that runs on milk.

Love the thought process.
"Console prices are prohibitive. Don't forget to buy Guitar Hero: Aerosmith for $100!"

You'd think they wouldn't want console prices, or else people might realize they're paying half the price of said console to play a game on it.

I think he meant to say, cost is prohibiting consumers to spend more money on our plastic guitars and six month franchise milking games.

Well, it makes sense. I mean, if the consoles cost less, we could all continue to buy guitars that are either exclusive to Activision's content, or even better, phased out by their own new improved versions every year or so. Oh, and add that to their brutal song download scheme and Kotick's comments truly ring both hollow and shallow.

I have paid for 2 PS3s since the systems launch. So there is $1000. I have 1 (of the 10 at least) Activision game that I played longer than 2 weeks. At 50-60 a piece, I'd say the PS3 is the better long term entertainment investment.

While you ponder a car that runs on milk, just consider what the pumps at the fueling station would look like.
Just... you know. Food for thought.

I love you guys, but think the pic associated with this story is a little too much. A good rule of thumb - does the picture in question show someone in a state of physical or emotional pain? If yes, just choose something else to get your point across.

The kids look happy though, must be the xbox...

Milk-as-motor-fuel's moment is coming. With gas above $4 per gallon and milk hovering around $4.50, it's just a matter of time.

I'd buy more games if they didn't cost so much. You are taking quite a gamble that the $59.99 you spend isn't going to bring the entertainment you were hoping for, but the cost of the console, $250-$500 is a sure bet. You will get your money's worth of entertainment out of it for sure... and yes, even the Wii.
