Readers pick best webcomic: The Inevitable Conclusion
For the Rush reference and a Seussical interpretation of Guitar Hero V's drum set, we handily hand Hijinks Ensue this week's webcomic wrapup award.
Second and third place go to Penny Arcade and 2P Start, respectively. Thanks to everyone who voted, and be sure to let us know of any game-related webcomics you stumble upon this week!

No need to add more buttons. I've always been confused why Guitar Hero/Rock Band never instituted the playing of open strings? There should be one more possible note in the games than you have buttons on the guitar to simulate an open string, but it's never been added? Why?

I think every one who's ever even seen someone play guitar has wondered that. Especially considering that the new GH will have a strum-only easy mode, why don't they implement it and make the progression more realistic?

I would like a game where there are ten frets, like a super expert mode for single player only.

But there are only 5 frets on the guitar.
The other 5 buttons are for making custom songs. They're not used in-game.
The Bass added a sixth note, but it still only has five frets. But Bass was always too easy to begin with, so a sixth note might even things up.

this is how rock band and GH guitars SHOULD be:

Heh, have fun translating that to a interface that makes sense. It would be quite the challenge.
Also, at that point, you might as well just pick up real guitar anyway.

do you think zero punctuation will be in the running next wrap up? what i saw in the preview was enough to crack me up

the guitar works fine, and the extra frets for GH4, while I don't exactly understand what they do, they are not used in normal gameplay. So I doubt they will actually change the GH controller since it works now and it'll keep working till they stop making games.

Congrats to HE for nabbing first place this week, they deserved it.
At what point are game companies going to stop with all of the musical instrument add ons and 'upgrades'? Maybe I'm alone in thinking this, but why add any new instruments or tweak what's already there? What's next, keyboards? More mics for back up singers? Dance pads? Bagpipes?!
I rarely have more than four people playing at a time anyway, so adding more band members seems to be excessive. Perhaps I'm just too worried about having more fake instruments cluttering up my game room.
This one goes out to my boy hoss. Enjoy this weeks comic and keep the down voting dream alive my brotha.

Hey Joystiq, can we have instant runoff voting on the next poll, please? I know it's a vote that doesn't count for anything, but it would be nice, and not too hard to program. Thanks, guys.
Ross Miller @ Jul 5th 2008 1:23PM
Instant runoff? Tell me more, explain.
