Seeing as I already have a Les Paul, I am going to get Guitar Hero World Tour. Even still, it is too early to make a sure decision.

i'm picking up GHWT, the controllers i already have are compatable, and i can just pick up a drum kit and have a full band, and since i skipped RBWii, i'd have to buy 2 of everything(aside from the mic)

You'd need two drum sets? The only thing you'd need two of would be guitars.

I don't think Rock Band is going to change its ways anytime soon. Not unless GH4 comes out and does everything intact and RB tries to steal it. I'm pretty damned confident I'll be getting GH4.

Track list is the decisive factor, and that's why I didn't buy Guitar Hero 3. I am considering Rock Band because it has an awesome track list, but i might wait to see World Tour and RB2, because there's no way in hell i'm forking out for two different sets of fake plastic instruments.

Anyone know how badly the gimped version of Rock Band has tanked on the Wii? (or how well it's done?)

VGChartz, at least, doesn't have sales numbers up except for last weeks numbers, and Rock Band Wii isn't in that list... As it got released last Tuesday, I bet we won't see any numbers for its sales for another few days...

VGchartz released their figures:

In America, Rock Band Wii sold ~131,500... Doesn't sound like that many units to me, but for the price they're charging, I guess that's decent?

Even though I'm a little disapointed in GHA, I'm still gonna pick up GH:WT. Rock band has insulted all wii users by stripping the game down, and then trying to sell what should be DLC on a freaking CD, with songs that I don't want. Unless Rock band's gonna give Wii users something BIG for free, then they shouldn't even put it out on Wii again. Guitar Hero Forever!!!

First I was waiting to see if GHIII or RB had a better product.
Then RB announced that it was stripping out modes.
Then GHIII went down in price.
I bought GHIII.
I will be buying GH:WT.

After going through the whole Rock Band vs Guitar Hero 3 thing In my opinion Rock Band is a muuuuch better series than GH. Its well made, well polished game, with better gameplay, better DLC support, that is made by people who understand music, Guitar Hero is the opposite of all of that; sloppy slapped together cash-in made by Neversoft while they're taking a break from Tony Hawk.

Guitar Hero was great before Harmonix(RB devs) sold the name to Activision.

Few of your points are true about the games on Wii, though. RB is not well-polished or well-made, and it has no DLC. On Wii, RB is the sloppy cash-in and GH is the polished game.

I'd give RB the award on 360/PS3, but on Wii, Harmonix has screwed the pooch.

GH3 isn't actually any more polished on the Wii, it's just that Harmonix got lazy and ported the ps2 version over to Wii instead of the full versions that 360/ps3 got. Rock Band still has the better note charts.

However, after playing Aerosmith, I am much more satisfied with Neversoft's charting. They are learning. I told people to give them another chance, and they have indeed improved.

Also, we have Hyperspeed online, and the online Co-op bug is fixed!

i liked neversofts note charting all along...

i have both rock band and guitar hero 3.

i found rock band easy compared to guitar hero and in single player i found guitar hero much more fun, because of the note charts! i think their difficulty made the game much more fun to me, for most of rock band i was falling asleep! also aerosmith i found way too easy too, kinda a dissapointment in the difficulty department.

either way i'll be getting guitar hero:)

Harmonix would have to do something pretty incredible for me to pick up RB2. I already have one GH guitar ready to use as a bass, so that's one big advantage of sticking with GH. Plus, I've been far more impressed with Activision/Vicarious Visions as a developer.

With RB2 releasing in September on 360, it seems like they're just trying to get it out before GH:WT. We weren't even aware it was in development until recently. Seems to me it could very well be rushed. Also, the PS2 and Wii versions releasing at the same time seems suspicious to me, as we all know how much Harmonix cares about Wii owners. Seeing as how RB1 just came out for us, I can't imagine that they spent a lot of time developing RB2 from the ground up on Wii.

We'll see if Harmonix can redeem themselves, but I'm nearly certain GH:WT will be the game I pick up.

My roommate had both RB and GH3 for ps3, and Rock Band is clearly the better game. Everyone I know agrees that GH3 is often hard just for the sake of being hard, whereas Rock Band just seems like a lot more time was put into developing the note charts. The ONLY reason I bothered picking up GH3 was because I thought that Rock Band wasn't coming out for the Wii (and let's be serious, it still hasn't, unless you count that Wii game claiming to be Rock Band). If Rock Band 2 brings all the features to the Wii, I'll get that, but if not, I'm keeping my money.

but rock band just bored me, and i didnt buy much dlc for the 360 version cos i actually chose to buy the guitar hero 3 stuff instead, since that was the game that actually was resonably hard! and it still makes me feel great when i play it, activision got that game near perfect imo, as a guitar only game anyway.
rock band annoys me, especially the small rectangles, they just seem to be harder to hit or something:s
and don't say it's because the note windows bigger on guitar hero because even with precision mode i nail the majority of them.

either way i'll get guitar hero and then probably rb2 (game only) when it releases in europe (next year?)

Guitar Hero all the way. GH III was better than Rock Band, and from what we know Tour will be better than Rock Band 2. It's a no brainer.

That and since the instruments don't work with each other's games, I don't want two sets of fake band instruments for my Wii in my already cramped room.

Plus, the song selections are more my taste on GH than RB.

Clearly, Guitar Hero: World Tour looks to be the better game right now. It will have DLC and fully functional online. Not to mention it's running at 60fps. EA will have to respond in kind if anyone is gonna give a shit about Rockband 2 Wii. If the game is as gimped as the recently released Rockband - with no onine and no DLC, Guitar Hero: World Tour will be the game to get this holiday on Wii. It'll be interesting to see how Harmonix responds to Would Tour Wii.

I will be picking up GH:WT for many of the same reasons that people are talking about above. A few things that noone has said yet.

1) I like the circular notes better than the bars. They are easier to see, and for some reason easier to play for me (maybe it is a wider window.)

2) The guitar hero guitar is better because I REALLY hated the strum on the RB guitar.

3) What about the new drum kit!!! That looks so awesome, and that is a big tip in the scale towards Activision.

I have little faith in Harmonix/EA after the RB1 non-attempt.

That being said, I really want to be able to play some of the Rock Band DLC, so if they make the new RB compatible with the old DLC and have the customization options, it will be a hard decision to make...

I do like the look of the new GH drums and guitar though...

Agreed.

If RB2 isn't gimped, and I have full access to DLC...AND if I can use the RB2 instruments on RB1 (that way I can just get the disc alone)...then it'll be a tough choice. Harmonix would also have to improve the quality of the instruments and include damn near everything that GH:WT has. I really don't see it happening, but they're free to prove me wrong.

Question, though. Will the GH:WT guitar be compatible with GH3? 'Cause I never got a second GH3 guitar, and it'd be nice to unlock some of those songs in co-op mode (a couple of the game's best songs are in there).

Right now, it looks like GH:WT will be better for the Wii than RB 2, but I think Harmonix is smart enought to add alll of the cool features that weren't in Rock Band Wii to Rock Band 2. This way, I think they would steal a lot of customers who were going to buy GH:WT and have them buy RB 2 instead.
After both games release, my prediction is that Rock Band 2 Wii will be better than GH:WT for Wii.

You mean reclaim, right? Cause Harmonix did GH before Activision bought Red Octane. Activision hasn't added anything to the genre. They bought GH, and just copied Harmonix with the full-band experience. Of course, Harmonix screwed up pretty badly with Rock Band on the Wii, so I'm not committing to a purchase of RB2 until I see that all the features have made it into the Wii version.

"Activision hasn't added anything to the genre."

Maybe not with GH3 (which didn't bother me because it was my first GH game), but that's definitely not true in the case of World Tour. Adding other instruments was an inevitable and obvious decision; it's not copying Rock Band any more than Harmonix copied Konami's GuitarFreaks.

GH:WT has vastly improved the drumkit and included a song-creation mode, and I much prefer the Wiimote-integrated instruments (instant wireless with no extra batteries). While we're on technical stuff, Activision/Vicarious Visions did what Harmonix claimed was impossible by allowing DLC to be saved and read from an SD card.

Those are some pretty significant additions, all of which Harmonix has yet to do. And again, I have a feeling that RB2 is rushed; I'll be surprised if they make the September release with a high-quality product intact. It'll be good, but not groundbreaking enough for me to choose it over GH:WT.

lol well gh wt will have broken drums,i think the cymbals will break, i think the pedal with bust in half, gh wt is just a copy of rb1 because if gh wt was smart, they would put metal on there pedal. And if your a drummer or wanting to learn drums, get rockband 2, if u just wanna i dono play something easier on drums but harder on guitar then i guess gh wt. but i am dissopointed in gh, they should have kept it as the guitar and rock band as the band but those dumb asses had to become a band but it's gonna fail, i just know it. Rockband has better graphics, i think, cause gh3 had terrible graphics and rb1 looked amzing cause they moved better but some band members looked weird but still good. Harmonix is a good company and actually know there intruments and all that jazz and the drums have 4 pads, 3 cymbals(cymbals sold sepratly) and is a real electronic ion drum kit man ,metal pedal and looks better and is harder and is good for drumming in life or in a game. bam.

lol well rb1 did have broken drums. i went thru 3 sets cuz they're so freaking fragile. another thing, what makes you so sure that the drums are easier on ghwt compared to rb1 or rb2? do even understand the concept of charting? it's not like the guitar, where the notes are always changing with the sound. the drums remain consistent and only change to accommodate different parts of the drums (more toms and cymbals). also, the drums for rock band are the same as the first ones. they're just wireless, velocity sensitive, slightly more quiet, and of course, your important, game making metal pedal. there are 3 cymbals that can be added to the stock set, but it most likely won't even be that big of a deal on account the game will prolly still keep the same sounds (hitting yellow/high-hat will still most likely make a tom noise on fills and finishes). the ion drum set is a seperate accessory that is compatible with the game and prolly still will keep the sounds same among the colors. The guitar hero world tour drums will have proper sounds matching with the instrument more consitent compared to rb. BAbam.

im indifferent between these games, i just read that last reply and saw a lot of missing and incorrect information. so i thought i'd give my five cents worth on this. :D

This is what is great about competition. GH set the standard in the US for a music game. Rock Band raised the bar with the original series but faltered with the Wii release. GH responds to Rock Band by upping the standard with an UN-gimped version of GH World Tour for the Wii. I am saving my money for the Wii version of Guitar Hero World Tour. Who knows maybe Rock Band will push out Rock Band and Sir Mix A Lot add on in 2009 to which Guitar Hero will follow suit with GH World Tour and Symphony Orchestra with a full compliment of brass and string instruments for the entire family tree to play.

Am I the only one out there who actually likes GHIII? regardless of who makes the game, it's not like the dynamics of the game can change all that much.

I already have guitars for GHIII and I really don't feel like buying a completely new set up so I can play a different game. Beside that, GH:WT looks pretty awesome. I'm going to leave the whole "they are just copying Rock Band" thing alone, because I'm tired of arguing the point, here and elsewhere. The fact is, the Wii versions of the game is better. I own a Wii. It's really not a very hard decision to make. And I can't wait to dig into the song creator in GH:WT. It should prove to be quite a bit of fun.

It hillarious that you guys do not realize what happened. Obviously the Wii got a rushjob PS2 port because they are working on RockBand 2, which I would bet my Wii will have all the features you guys are crying about.

Maybe it would have been better just to leave Rock Band 1 off the Wii altogether.

Considering Neversofts notecharts on Guitar Hero 3, I have little faith on how they'll do drums, I'll be surprised if they even differentiate from snare to hat to kick etc and instead just throw random notes at you.

But they sacrifice the little bit of realism that Guitar Hero has to make it the notecharts that hard. Which for me takes all the fun out of it. The essence of Guitar Hero is, while its a arcade game, it still feels kinda like really playing guitar, that went out the window with GH3 and probably onwards.

Guitar Hero World Tour, NO DOUBT! But one thing I have to say, I am getting it for 360. After buying Rock Band, I can tell Guitar Hero is MUCH better. I say that as in meaning that comparing the guitar on both games, Guitar Hero dominates in everything. There are very few challenging songs on Rock Band for guitar, and some of the only challenging ones are ones you have to download. Now Rock Band does have some awesome drums, but if the guitar is worse than the guitar hero guitar, than I would think the drums would be the same. I just can't see Rock Band 2 being better.
