Chrono Trigger DS confirmed for North America this holiday

Well, that didn't take long. After Square Enix quietly launched a teaser website seemingly devoted to bringing fan fave Chrono Trigger to the Nintendo DS, we've managed to scrape our jaws off the floor just in time to see that the company has confirmed plans for the title, and that the game will ship in time for North American gamers to pull it out of their stockings this holiday season.

With the original having shipped some 2.5 million copies the world over, Squeenix calls the portable take on the 1995 SNES role-playing classic "newly revamped," promising a new dungeon and wireless play of some sort. Touch screen support is also promised, something we're getting plenty of practice at as we paw at our computer screens in eager anticipation.

Now maybe we can get a SMRPG 2 game. But I find this news to be great.

Hooray! My second favorite game ever! Not that I haven't played it a hundred times through in the last ten years. I can't believe that cartridge is still working.

So are they going to FFIII/IV DS this up or leave it being 2D sprites?

So therefore...keep the remakes coming, Squeenix! When should we expect FF V & VI? Hell, they could even do VII-IX on the DS. That would be nice. I would buy every single one of them.I've played IV a LOT and I'm still planning on getting it when it comes out.

This is the happiest day related to a Jrpg in my life. Chrono Trigger had some of the best music, and one of the best approach to RPGs. Comedy, something Chrono Cross failed at recreating.

I hope it gets a face life, unlike the ps1 remake.... I did like those animated clips though.

please PLEASE! let there be two or three new endings with this new dungeon. maybe we'll find all those cats that jumped in the Epoch. maybe they killed off the Mu or something equally strange.

I guess I'm finally going to buy a DS now... yes I know, about time.

Okay okay, I guess it's kinda cool, but unless it's a remake and not a slightly enhanced port, I don't see what all the "HOLY SHIT I POOPED MY PANTS AND CAME ALL OVER SAMFISH'S FACE" comments are about. Just because of one extra dungeon? Or maybe most of Joystiq's fanbase doesn't know emulators exist?

I nearly crapped myself when I heard about this. Okay, okay... I really did crap myself.

This right here is why Square-Enix won't release their AA or AAA games on the Virtual Console or PSN because they know they can make more money off a hard-copy remake.

I played it back when I was a kid and I'm more than just anticipating it. As they proved in Super Mario 64 DS, I'm sure they will change some things around and make it interesting for another time around. Come on! Chrono Trigger is a game that is unable of failing... 'cept for the last boss.... he's a spawn of hell. -.-

Maybe this will encourage them to continue the series??

I've loved this game since 1995. This game got me into gaming.

Finally a reason to dust off my Mario Kart edition DS that I've not bought any new games for since I got it two years ago.

Super Mario RPG please? Those 2 games got me into RPGs, and if it werent for Super Metroid, then gaming in general. I played parts of it on my old SNES, but it messed up and died. I've never beaten the game personaly, only seen it, cause I always get stuck right when I get Robo....
