GamePro August issue sheds Resistance 2 details

Let's not mince words, Insomniac's Resistance 2 is sure to be one of Sony's heaviest hitters during E3 later this month. But if you can't wait for what is sure to be minutes devoted to the Trophy-enabled shooter during Sony's pre-show festivities, you might want to take a peek at what GamePro has in store for its latest issue, which features a fold-out cover of the above art, with war-themed propaganda on the back. Nice!

Among the details promised, the mag will offer a look at the game's campaign, co-op, and competitive multiplayer modes, as well as a gaze skyward at a towering 300-foot tall Chimera that besets Chicago as the game's first end-level nasty. For more, we suggest heading to your favorite magazine rack to pick up the latest issue of GamePro, and let your eyeballs soak up the August issue's 10-page cover story on the upcoming FPS.

oh geesh, for A second I thought that R2 is going to be better than halo 2 or 3 and bigger than cod 2,3 or 4.

More action that HALO3? Perhaps.

Though I didn't see mention of the CoD series in the article, I doubt it'll match CoD2 or CoD4's heated scenes. As for CoD3... well, I'd rather play HAZE over that, if that's any indicator.

Save for the forgettable music(no real "stand out" track, unlike CoD or HALO); the rest of RESISTANCE:FOM was pretty fun and developed. And I love the ignited gas grenades(I don't recall the in-game name)in multiplayer skirmishes. >:]

*blarg... I meant the Joystiq paraphrased article. I didn't bother with Gamepro's(will have to view away from the fire station).

But still, *if* the action surpasses the vivid scenes of war in CoD4; I'll be(happily)surprised. Still a worthwhile purchase either way, though.

Remember this is GamePro we're talking about. These are the same guys who time and time again prove they can be bought for many a thing.

It's not like saying a game is better than halo is really going out on a limb since halo sucks pretty hard. Like I said, the whole halo-killer term is out the door now that COD 4 completely kicked halo's ass.

As for the call of duty headline, they probably literally mean bigger because of the 60 player multiplayer which would make that statement true.

Halo 3 was good, but not great by any means. R1 however, was the epitome of mediocrity and never would have generated half the hype/sales it did were it not released during the dead period on the PS3. So saying that it's certainly better than a good but not great game is still a stretch at this point, before seeing how the game has matured from the original, mediocre offering.

I disagree. I enjoyed the game every bit as much as Halo. I think bother are fairly average in single player, but in co-op both start to shine. R1 in co-op was a lot of fun. The controls are good and the weapons are fairly unique for an FPS. My only real complaint was that co-op didn't extend to online.

IMO the weapons in RFOM were pretty crappy. They looked crappy and they sounded crappy. Not a big fan of health packs either. The only reason I played all the way through was because I was on a PS3 game drought when I first got it and I had no plans that weekend. Its a standard shooter. Honestly I had more fun with COD3, and thats saying something right there.

What I like about RFOM are the enemy designs and the overall clean look. Theres a lot of potential there for R2 I'll give it that and I see they are aiming for it by getting rid of the 4 silly weapons at any time and focusing on Hale this time around. The new MP looks like a COD4 clone which is actually a good thing for me :)

I dont get caught up in the ZOMG60PLYRMP because its rather pointless since you're not really going to be seeing all of those players at once so who cares? Hope it does well so I can start my Trophy collection with all AAA titles.

I liked the weapone because they weren't just clones of what everyone else has done and all were useful in different situations. I'm also interested in the 60 players. Maybe you don't see all 60 at one time, but it allows for large battles at multiple locations... and battles over flags and such could become quite epic.

For example, in a game type where you have to hold controls points you can actually have people actively attacking or protecting points all over the map. Too many times in smaller scale games you'll find control points completely empty because the players are currently fighting over a different control point.

Large players also allow for game types with more than two teams. Some games have this now, but when the teams are too small they really get pretty boring and the gameplay breaks down.

I certainly understand the appeal of smaller team battles, but I've really come to appreciate the controlled chaos of large scale battles.

Meanwhile, due to a flamebait headline, people talk more about Halo than Resistance.

well there are alot of games better than Halo 2 not many are better than Halo 3 and even fewer are better than Halo, and to be honest the Call of Duty maps arent that big consdering the games now a days but not many come close to how well most of the call of duty games are executed espscially Call of Duty 4. But i loved the first Resistance cant wait for this one i hope they will include destuctable enviornments after battlefeild bad company raised the bar for that

Really looking forward to Resistance 2, though the hype surrounding it is getting a little out of control considering how little we've seen of it. Resistance was/is a super solid FPS and considering the fact that it was a launch title, I'm excited to see what Insomniac will do with the game with out the launch date deadline pressure.

i can see it being better then cod and halo, for me halo series was er i cant really put it down but really fast and easy, with not the best storyline out their, it reminded me of a arcade game where once you bit a checkpoint hordes of aliens appear like err sumthing sam forgot the name, But that was a better game
i liked rfom, not because of the gameplay tbh the gameplay reminded me of a good gfx ps1 game, but the story and the landmarks ect made the game so much more intresting,

with the cod series i only got into number 4, after 12 years of playing world war 1 and 2 iv must of played d-day about 100 times in cod medel of honour ect its getting a little lane and their just stealing storys and intergrating them together to make a same old world war game, But i got a feeling that cod world at war or w.e it called is going to be good not for the story because im guessing thats going to be a little same old, But the gameplay... looks more realistic ect. I cant wait till they make a game proper realistic if u get shot in the leg you've gotta limp or drag urself around. id just stay on level one for the value!

Actually, Halo and Halo 2 single player WAS/IS bad. I couldn't care less how popular/unpopular a game is. Pure respect to the series' multiplayer offerings, but the single player was lame in the first two and passable in Halo 3.

Yes Looooooord, yes Lord! Preach it! The reason everyone mentions Halo is because it is the shizz! 4 player Co-op on Legendary was AWESOME!!! Halo3 MP is still one of the best out there, especially the online ch33voz for it were really fun. I wish they did a 250gp add-on update for MP achievements. I have 1000/1000 unlocked already. Customizable armour, record your gameplay and take photos, heavy DLC support, Forge. Halo 3 is a lot of BANG for your buck IMO. Fuck all you haters out there dogging it for no real reason. Bring on HALO 4!!!

Halo 1 single player was excellent, Halo 2 was boring as fucking shit. Haven't played 3, but i heard it's a lot like 2, so i pretty much lost interest right there.

You're playing the victim here. Acting like your favorite game is being treated unfairly. But it's not. Even if you don't think Halo 3 single player sucked, there's still room for other games to be better than it.

The reasons everyone mentions Halo is because it sold a lot of copies. So other game companies (and magazines) try to associate other games to it saying "better then [popular game]" because they're hoping that if you bought [popular game] (and a lot of people did) and liked it, you'll buy this because they say it's better. And thus they'll sell a lot of copies.

So if "it's the shizz" you mean "sold an assload of copies", then yeah, that's why they mention it.

At least we can say is better and bigger than Haze.

R:FOM was a bit 'meh', and I ended up trading my copy in once I'd completed it, but this sequal looks to be really good. The single-player gameplay videos really impressed me. First day purchase for me, unless early reviews turn out to be horrible.

It was tbh, nothing great or astounding, but then it was one of the best things available, so who was to complain, then again it wasn't a half bad effort from Insomniac, the only thing that bothered me was the constant use of brown, was beginning to do my head in.

im not saying its shit im saying in my option it wasn't the game that came from all that hype it was a 3rd degree from what i was expecting. to me halo was/is world of warcraft, it looks really good and you play it for a couple of days and you enjoy it and then pftt the sparks goes out and it just wasnt that great, same goes to halo2 and then i thought woaw look at the hype so i bought a xbox360 bought a couple of games enjoyed it for a while then halo 3 arrived i decided fk that im gonna rent it, spend 3 pound bloody 50 for a game i finished in about 4 hours in one outting yeah the gfx are good but its just a plain stright line game then got totally ruined by them zombie things. then on christmas i got a ps3 and my xbox 360 20gb is sitting their saying im a waste of a good 250 quid! dusty with crap stickers all over it. arrr i think iv gone ott on this comment, Yeah their is a couple of games for my ps3 which are so shit i wish i didnt spend ££ on them, like haze but only reason why because of the weapons and gameplay, i liked the story kinda. thought it was better then halo anyway, Thanks for ready ready

Its true, it is bigger then Halo and COD, I looked at the box size and CD and they were massive in prototype, apparently you need a suitcase to carry the game, and a specially made PS3 big enough to play it. Yup, uh huh :) I'm very right.

I enjoyed the original, and I'm looking forward to the sequel. But I'm very tired of all these "Better than Halo/CoD4" claims. The first one wasn't anywhere close, and I highly doubt the second will be either. It'll be an entertaining FPS, but it's only going to disappoint, when they keep setting the bar so high.

That was the biggest problem with things like Haze and Killzone, neither were really awful games, people were just expecting far more.

I'm really hoping when they say bigger than cod they're referencing R2's multiplayer, which really is bigger. If they meant bigger as in a bigger deal than cod 4 then I too take offense to that. It's just an intentionally provocative headline that was twisted a bit (by them) to grab more attention.

Yea it cracks me up when everyone has to compare their fps to Halo. As the old saying goes, Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Thanks to the wave of perfect 10s on less then prefect games, I treat all hype as bullshit until I see the game myself.

Nah... "bigger" is easy. CoD4 is very short game.

They have to say 'bigger' than COD because saying 'better' than COD is almost impossible. IW has set the bar so fricken high with COD4 its insane! Thats why the game sells like crazy and is #1 on XboxLIVE. Not even GTAIV's crazy record breaking sales could keep people playing it more than COD4.

From the gameplay videos I saw on gametrailers, Resistance 2 uses only brown , not all the vivid colours I see there...False advertising!

no, resistance will have COLORS now. this one comes to america.

Nah, brown was the last game, this game seems to have more colours, I can tell, looks like Yellow will become a standard colour as well, things are looking up :)
