I upgraded mine, and it went from 1080i to 480i. (That's it, just a quick change in settings cleared it up) Besides that, my PS3 is fine :D

How can Sony get away with charging $150.00 for repairing a machine that their update created?

It doesn't kill your motherboard or anything. Reformat the drive, load 2.36, and everything is fine. Lots of forum-goers who's PS3 was bricked by 2.40 are already reporting that fixes it.

And even if it did completely kill the system, there's no way in hell Sony could survive trying to charge people to have it fixed.

at least there's SOME solution. still, i'd be pretty pissed off if my system got bricked and i had to go through the trouble of hooking it up to a pc (not much trouble) and erase everything on my hard drive to fix the shit when it wasn't even my fault. i'd be even more pissed off if i felt incapable of doing that for whatever reason and had to pay sony $150 to do it for me.

A co-worker and I managed to both download and update with no problem. We both have the launch 60GB models. that may have something to do with it.

I downloaded at 3:00 last night and I had trophies and in game XMB, i was able to send a message to my friend while in game but i couln't listen to any music while in the game!

I remember when 2.34 came out, I then heard about 2.4, so I said, screw it, im waiting. I just turned on to update my 60 gig, and i got the update for 2.34. hhhmmmmm. PULLED.

my friend just updated his PS3 (dont no what G) and he says its been working fine so far. i let him borrow my Warhawk disk game and he returned it to me with no problems and he even erned a trophy. i just tried updating and im P.O.d that im stuck with the 2.36 version instead of 2.40. Sony better fix that problem soon, they promised July 2nd, and its July 2nd!

i don't undestand how Sony could be so cruel as to charge $100+ on a problem they created themselves. it would be like buying a game, having a friend say he's gonna make it better, and getting it back in pieces with you having to buy another

you're updating to 2.34 because thats the next grade up from where you r at. your PS3 needs to download the basic updates before it can get 2.4. besides, 2.4 is offline for awhile anyway

The ps3 always downloads the latest version,You down upgrade in steps to the current version.


But uhh if anyone wants to try their luck,you CAN still get it from the web download...Look at the url when you hover over it.It has today's date in it.

So what's going on? I have a 60GB PS3 and went to turn it on (which I had updated to 2.40 at midnight) and it did not prompt me to downgrade to 2.36.

It's situations like this that make my $50.00 a year for Xbox Live worth paying for. 360 owners don't have to completely re-install the exhisting software for the Xbox. And when it is installed you can bet your ass it's been tested to its limits. Thanks Msoft!

After 2.40the only problem I had was with the bluetooth headset from warhawk bundle while I was playing COD4. After I harwired all my consoles I have no problem.
When I turned on the headset I went from full greenbars to one red dot.

I loaded all my games into the machine for updates and the only one that registered for trophys is stardust.Warhawk did not register.

I have 2.40 working just excellent. If you make 2.41 PLEASE DON´T MAKE US DOWNLOAD IT WHOLE!! JUST THE PATCH O WHATEVER IT NEEDS!!
