Poll: Does Guitar Hero Aerosmith support Rock Band guitars?

Our original tipster, who works for a rather large gaming magazine, tested all manner of guitars with Guitar Hero: Aerosmith but, alas, he was on an XDK – the Xbox 360 debug kit (and no, the above is not Photoshopped, it's a direct screen grab). Perhaps something, however unlikely, has changed from the reviewable code to the final retail code? Even then, we've gotten tips as recently as this morning claiming the Rock Band guitar does not work with the retail release of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith. Frankly, we can't keep track anymore so we'll do the next best thing: power of the masses.

I played this last night with the Rock Band Guitar on a newer 360 with the new chips. Not only did the guitar work, but it made the game easier since the buttons are closer together.
Tez (PSN: Tezasaurus) @ Jul 2nd 2008 3:14PM
The poll results are very telling.
BrokenMonkey @ Jul 2nd 2008 3:38PM
Indeed, it tells that nobody cares enough about Aerosmith to waste $60 on this game.
Tez (PSN: Tezasaurus) @ Jul 2nd 2008 3:39PM
Yup.
JetPogi @ Jul 2nd 2008 3:47PM
indeed lol I picked the third :P
TrojanGuy @ Jul 2nd 2008 6:00PM
Ditto. And same for this comment. I just wanna be included.
Erico @ Jul 2nd 2008 6:47PM
It also could be that not many people own Rock Band guitar. The poll should include wired vs wireless RB guitar too. All in all, it is a sucky poll.
Tiptup300 @ Jul 2nd 2008 7:13PM
I just found out today it sells for 60. That's crazy! I thought it was 30, I was starting to consider just like picking it up...never mind.
Anthony @ Jul 2nd 2008 3:15PM
Maybe this game is trying to give you a hard time for all the crap you said about it.
Bet you didn't know video games bite back.
CTC XBL-supapaypamawio PSN-ctclaw @ Jul 2nd 2008 3:17PM
Why does the image look so photoshopped? What is up with the edges?
Sean @ Jul 2nd 2008 3:36PM
Shitty programming. It doesn't look photoshopped.. photoshopped would have the edges all airbrushed. It looks like crappy programming, the little dialog edges don't shrink to fit the content of the message.
Haggard @ Jul 2nd 2008 3:55PM
No anti-aliasing ;)
Corasaur @ Jul 2nd 2008 3:18PM
A buddy and I played co-op last night with two wired Rock Band guitars. Both worked without a hitch.
copa @ Jul 2nd 2008 3:23PM
Activision is trying their damndest to lock out Rock Band guitars, but clearly they haven't got 100% coverage, and some models are sneaking in.
If there are any MBAs in the house, can someone tell me which is the better business plan?
1) Rock Band 2 will be releasing this September. If you choose to buy it, there will be a pre-existing catalog of hundreds of songs, and you will be able to use all of your Rock Band DLC. You will also be able to use your Rock Band instruments, or your Guitar Hero instruments.
2) Guitar Hero: World Tour will be releasing this September. If you would like to use your Guitar Hero DLC, fuck you. If you would like to use your Rock Band instruments, fuck you. If you would like to buy single songs instead of being forced to buy an entire pack that you don't want, fuck you. If you would like to buy selected songs from Aerosmith or Metallica without being forced to buy an entire expansion disc, fuck you.
Kizzle @ Jul 2nd 2008 3:28PM
+1. Activision burn in hell.
Sora267 @ Jul 2nd 2008 3:37PM
1 is better for the consumer, but 2 is better for the company as it forces consumers to reinvest in everything, making the company more profit, thus making it okay if the harshness of plan 2 drives away customers because the people who DO go with it get milked dry enough to compensate.
At least, that's what common sense tells me.
Hafk @ Jul 2nd 2008 3:39PM
Same situation on the Wii.
1. You buy Rock Band 2. You would like to be treated like a now-gen console owner with online play and DLC. Fuck You.
2. You buy Guitar Hero World Tour, You can play online with friends over the world, and can play custom and downloadable songs, like other now-gen consoles.
Tez (PSN: Tezasaurus) @ Jul 2nd 2008 3:41PM
I like copa.
Tiptup300 @ Jul 2nd 2008 3:44PM
In the words of Kyera
"Eat a dick, Activision."
Farseer (GDI) @ Jul 2nd 2008 3:46PM
@ Hafk
We'll see what GHIV can do on the Wii when it is released on the Wii. I have a feeling that without a sophisticated DRM scheme in place, GHIV DLC may not find its way to your friendly neighborhood Wii.
ChooChooCharlie @ Jul 2nd 2008 3:49PM
"2. You buy Guitar Hero World Tour, You can play online with friends over the world, and can play custom and downloadable songs, like other now-gen consoles."
We'll see when GH:WT comes out. Activision says a lot of things. I seem to recall them also saying something about a "steady stream of DLC" being available for GH3. We both know how that one turned out.
Jakka @ Jul 2nd 2008 3:49PM
Guitar Hero hate ftl.
If the soundtrack is even 25% true,I'm still buying this game. That and the fact that you "stupid yankees" don't have to appreciate the wonderful privilege of paying £200 for a Rock Band Set.Couldn't £ be the worldwide standard currency? Then other countries wouldn't have to suffer just because $ is pathetically weak right now.
Now onto soundtrack:
Van Halen, The Eagles, and Linkin Park,Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, The Smashing Pumpkins, Korn, System of a Down, Ozzy Osbourne, Interpol,Lenny Kravitz,Tool,Aerosmith and Muse.
mirage @ Jul 2nd 2008 3:55PM
@ hafk:
You enjoy playing the same 10 DLC songs over and over again online with your friends who you can't talk to on your Wii. I will be playing RB 2 on my 360 with my buddies online while enjoying all of the RB 1 songs that I have already downloaded. I can even tell him to go fuck himself when he fails out for the 3rd time and ruins the song. :)
Hafk @ Jul 2nd 2008 3:56PM
Well, technically, once a month is a "steady stream"
I do know about some of the early claims. They said the Wii would have DLC last time, and no online play. Although, I think that announcement was a mistake, more than anything (Since it is the other way around for GH3.)
Well, they fixed the engine and charting in GHA, so all they have to do really is fix the DLC for a golden guitar game. However, since they are also doing all of the Rock Band and custom song jazz, as well as the online BWT, we'll see about the future.
If Harmonix does support Online and DLC on Rock Band 2 on the Wii, they better speak fast. The GHWT Hype Train for the Wii is taking off. They should have announced it during the official announcement.
T @ Jul 3rd 2008 8:39AM
I thought GHWT would play GHIII DLC...wasn't there a big story on that a while back?
jhrf89 @ Jul 2nd 2008 3:59PM
Posting in a long reply 8).
DangerMouse @ Jul 2nd 2008 4:03PM
Copa's e-mail going kablooooohey!!!!!
Activision's the new EA. Go get 'em. Internets HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Neebs @ Jul 2nd 2008 4:57PM
The fact that the shorter posts in this thread are reaching "full hearts" faster than the long ones is very telling, Joystiq readers.
Jakka @ Jul 2nd 2008 5:58PM
Okay, I was joking on the "stupid yankees" bit.Gosh, you don't have to bring out the down-hammer already.
Anthony @ Jul 2nd 2008 3:24PM
Come on. It'a not like that's hard to Photoshop.
The error is a solid color on top of a faded backscreen.
Haggard @ Jul 2nd 2008 3:58PM
Or it could do that on purpose, like when you pause some games..
Kizzle @ Jul 2nd 2008 3:27PM
It appears that some Rock Band guitars work while others don't. We'd have a definitive answer by now if it were 100% one way or the other.
theturtle363 @ Jul 2nd 2008 3:38PM
90.4 percent just wanted to be included. I feel your pain joystiqers
Eric @ Jul 2nd 2008 10:36PM
I wanted to see the results of the poll. If there had been a "View Results" option, I wouldn't have had to vote for the third.
Tiptup300 @ Jul 2nd 2008 3:39PM
Don't worry everyone, I'm going to rent this soon and I only have the rock band guitar.... well I have an explorer, but I sorta ripped out the whammy bar, broke the strum bar off, and a key is totally stuck in the guitar...
If the rb guitar doesn't work, I'll just play with my gamepad. Am I the only one who loves to play with a gamepad, only thing I miss of the GH series.
[.sm0ke.] @ Jul 2nd 2008 6:59PM
How the hell did you manage to do all that to the guitar? You're not Pete Townshend, are you?
Alex @ Jul 2nd 2008 3:39PM
1. Thew poll shows that at least 100 people has bought GH:A. Should we be worried about it?
2. Joystiq readers: we like to feel included.
3. Screw you Activision, you're killing a good franchise.
4. What's up with Aerosmith and Robotic sexualized chicks?? Somebody on that band has issues going on its brain.
Tiptup300 @ Jul 2nd 2008 3:46PM
Whats up with the actual ui, who the hell thought that a "Hai, i uze da game maker" type-texture would be a good idea!?
Farseer (GDI) @ Jul 2nd 2008 3:42PM
Holy shit! Activision, do you see this? There are some people who can use Rock Band guitars with your game! Get that update out ASAP - there's just no excuse for that kind of programming mistake!
Seriously, if you give them an inch, they'll take a mile. They may never even buy a second Guitar Hero guitar, and that's just unthinkable!
Farseer (GDI) @ Jul 2nd 2008 3:43PM

Yup, I've tried it, totally works 76 (4.8%)
Nope, I'm getting the same screen above 76 (4.8%)
I don't really know, but I want to feel included 1422 (90.3%)
I love it.
DarkNessBear @ Jul 2nd 2008 3:51PM
I got a disease for playing GH4. The game is called G-HIV...
Oh and I wanted to feel included. =)
Jakka @ Jul 2nd 2008 3:51PM
Until we see how many different controllers RB2 will support, enough moaning and bitching.
merobb @ Jul 2nd 2008 3:52PM
Here, I just made this video to prove it.

Joe @ Jul 2nd 2008 3:55PM
I'm actively interested in this poll, because all I have for my 360 is a Rock Band guitar, I'm really bored waiting for work to start, and if my controller works, I'll totally rent GH:A.
cole @ Jul 2nd 2008 3:59PM
That may not be a Photo-chopped image like you say, but if that is the case then it means that whoever is in charge of GUI design over at Activision is one sloppy designer.
Notice how the pink and white word bubble is two of the same images that are mirrored and then placed next to each other. Only here they overlap and look pretty amateurish. WTF?
burgerbat @ Jul 2nd 2008 4:36PM
See, I still have a bone to pick with this "screen grab". Now, my RB guitar works perfectly with my 360 GH:A, (which, for the record, wasn't a launch guitar because the original one broke...) so I haven't seen this particular message, but all of the rest of the "pop-up" type of messages have a faux-snakeskin background, not just a white one. And the edges are never split and overlapped on the left and right edge as they are in this picture. I'm not saying the problem doesn't exist but this picture is real, real shady.
Shagittarius @ Jul 2nd 2008 4:23PM
I believe they call that a cosmetic issue it is the least important of all categories of bugs.
It was probably reported but deemed not important enough to fix due to schedule concerns.
aristokrat @ Jul 2nd 2008 4:49PM
I have trouble believing that anyone with any degree of photoshop knowledge would leave that looking so crappy. Most fake mockups look almost picture-perfect, which is why they normally cause so much debate. Hell, I could have made that screen in MSPaint. It's probably from a dev miscounting image pixel heights, or doing some wrong math (hell, doctors do it all the time), and this leads me to believe that it is indeed an image from the production-line-developer that is Activision.
JohnMazz @ Jul 2nd 2008 4:19PM
Wow, look at those results... theres either 125 people (on one side or another) who are really jerks, or theres a bigger story here than we know...
