PS3 firmware 2.40 spruces up PSN Store

Right now, you're probably at work, reading this at your cubicle, wondering how exactly your two college degrees and years of hard work and ambition got you to where you are now. Meanwhile, our pals at PS3 Fanboy are at home, probably in their underwear, futzing around with PS3 firmware 2.40, high-fiving each other every time they find something "totally rad." This one took quite a bit of digging, but we agree it's pretty important.

The updated PSN Store brought Sony's web-based circa 1997 shopping experience into the 21st century, but it wasn't without fault. Most notably, the tiny icons often didn't communicate the content very well ... that is, if they ever loaded. Yeah, it had caching issues too. So, we're happy to report that as of today, the PSN Store has a new "view mode" which puts things into a list format, as seen above and, whaddyaknow, they're caching images now too so everything should be lickity-split!

There's actually no content, the store is full of thumbnail images that you click and make funny sounds, nothing more.

Yes, it's actually a new feature. Every time you purchase anything, your credit card # will be posted in front of the store for everyone to see.

yes. i bought a game last night and i didnt even have to re-enter my info to put money in my PSN Wallet. i had my card out and everything ready to enter the info and then it just did it when i clicked buy, meaning anyone that picks up my PS3 controller can run my credit card up. there may be a way to stop this in the Account Settings but i havent checked yet.

i feel much more secure on the Wii where it has me input my info every time.

So, instead of someone breaking in and stealing your PS3 or your credit card, they're going to turn on your TV, log into the PS Store, and put a bunch of money into your PSN account? THAT is what you're worried about??

Maybe I'll check this out on my buddy's system in a while. But, yeah, I actually hadn't used the PSN Store or even the PS3 at all until this past Sunday, and while I mostly approve of the system navigation, I do not like the PSN Store... at all.

I can't really say why though :-/

i noticed last night that it now counts the amount of content at the bottom of the lists but i figured that was the extent of the update, apparently i was mistaken.

Anyone out there having problems with the firmware 2.40. I started my ps3 expecting it to update to 2.40 but nothing. I went to system update and says it's up to date 1.36. Went to the psn store and it seems fine. I tried reseting the system and still nothing.

Is this a region specific update? I updated to 2.40 last night, and went to the Australia store, but there wasn't any option for 'View'

with the new firmware I can't pause my music while on the web and the keyboard enter button doesn't respond like it did before the update if you are the ones who have an update to fix this it would be greatly apprecciated thanks
