'Several' Halo Wars demo stations at E3
Ensemble Studios' Bruce Shelley says that "several demo stations" of Halo Wars will be available at E3. This is generally considered good news, because it means Halo Wars has gotten to the point where it's no longer held in captivity by the developers who don't want anybody to touch a thing. It also eases our fears of further delays following Ensemble's "when it's done" quote from last month.
We will certainly have hands-on impressions of the game at E3 and with luck, we'll be able to nail down a more solid release window. We keep hope alive that Halo Wars, built from the ground up for the Xbox 360, could finally figure out the RTS genre for consoles.

Nice pic Joystiq... I'm sure you guys can pwn a lot of other journalists ... but you need to do more.
Luc Bernard included Mr. Destructoid in Eternity's Child game. You need something similar in a game.

Interesting. Releasing this year for reals maybe?
NATO_Duke @ Jul 2nd 2008 1:42PM
I thought that the RTS for lord of the rings nailed the controls pretty well and showed that they could be quite easy to play on a console. Anyone else think that?
VanillaBear @ Jul 2nd 2008 1:55PM
I agree with you nato, C & C Tiberium Wars also has pretty good controls.
The alpha control scheme (http://www.halowarsaddict.com/images/upload/hwaIMG-9055-control.jpg) looks like it could work pretty well.
I am looking forward to hearing what people have to say about it at E3.

The controls for Battle for Middle Earth were OK for a controller. But, this would turn into a must buy for me if they would let us use a USB keyboard & mouse. It's the only way to play a RTS.
Snowblind @ Jul 2nd 2008 2:46PM
Agreed, I think we're past the stage of saying RTS games don't work on consoles, C&C3 proved that it works just fine, and the control demonstration they showed for Halo Wars last year shows that they're refining it even more, making it easier to select individual units, etc.
Plus there's Microsoft's motion controller, which is rumoured to have been designed as a pointing device to make games like this and Viva Pinata easier to play.

Who had that picture first, you or X3F.
Also aren't you being slightly deluded terming yourself Journalists. Zing, Burn. LoL.

...x3f ARE joystiq...
mattclarkie @ Jul 2nd 2008 1:49PM
I know they are part of the same family. But point is someone must have had the idea first.
Richard Mitchell @ Jul 2nd 2008 2:29PM
I made the image, then whipped up one for Joystiq as well.
mattclarkie @ Jul 2nd 2008 2:33PM
Well it is very good.
You get twice as long on the demo stand for your hard work.
Martez @ Jul 2nd 2008 2:17PM
This game looks really cool; while I wasn't too big on the official Halo games, I do like the story and universe and I'm hoping this turns out well. Hell, this being great and a price drop might convince me to get a 360.
Noshino @ Jul 2nd 2008 2:27PM
If you can count on 2 studios to make amazing RTS's, those will be Blizzard and Ensemble...
It reminds me the time in which there was a huge rivalry between SC and AoE players...
umm....hello??? @ Jul 2nd 2008 3:00PM
...already have the 360, am hooked on the Halo storyline so am looking forward to this game. hopefully the controls will be better than C&C Tiberium--but then I've always had problems using RTS controls so it's probably more me than the control scheme...
Shangheli @ Jul 2nd 2008 2:35PM
Hope it comes to PC too. Ensemble made the best RTS ever, Age of empires 2.
j.howlett @ Jul 2nd 2008 4:00PM
where is all that halo love i've been seeing lately? oh this isn't a sony story. its funny how the original halo game was supposed to be like this and now its come all the way back to its roots. and without bungie. i wonder what bungie's next game will be. i'm terrible when it comes to playing an rts
Dwag @ Jul 2nd 2008 4:25PM
What happened to Endwar and World in Conflict? Aren't those gonna be good console RTSs and C&C3 showed RTSs worked on consoles.
Mr Khan @ Jul 2nd 2008 5:32PM
Torment us with knowledge of what you get to do and we don't, why don't you?
