Get ready to hit the seedier side of Tokyo and slug it out in HD – Yakuza 3 is coming. The "real" Yakuza 3. As first reported on 2chan, the latest issue of Famitsu quotes Yakuza series director Toshihiro Nagoshi as stating that the game is a direct sequel to Yakuza 2, and is in development exclusively for PS3.
Nagoshi states in the Famistu article that Ryu ga Gotoku Kenzan! – which is set in Edo-era Japan – is actually considered a spin-off from the "main" Ryu ga Gotoku series (Yakuza here in the West). No release date has been announced for the series' third (well, technically fourth) installment, but we'll keep you posted.

PS3 exclusivity isn't too surprising, as the previous two entries were only on PS2.
Hmm... I've yet to play the first Yakuza. Anyone care to tell me if there's anything good/bad about it, and if I should bother to play it?

Sega did comfirm that Yakuza 2 would be released here. Unlike the first, though, the voices will be left in Japanese (whether that's good or bad is up to you, and I really don't care one way or the other).

From what I hear, Yakuza is the spiritual successor to Shenmue. Don't know for sure, but it's on my Goozex queue.

My thoughts exactly. And Jet Set Radio 3 as well, on 360 or Wii...preferably both. And a port of the original to PSP while you're at it.

If That's how the game looks, why keep it exclusive?

Pwnd just doesn't seem to quite cover it. And stop being a fanboy, the graphics look more or less the same on both consoles. Differences are the fault of the programmers, not the hardware.

Fanboyism aside, the 360 has more RAM available to its video processor, and it's ATI GPU is arguably more powerful than the nVidia chip inside the PS3.

Marty: Sounds like Microsoft have brainwashed you.
Both systems are 512MB, the PS3 NUMA, the 360 UMA.
The 360 provides felxible gpu/cpu allocation, the PS3 solution allows for a much faster bus on the CPU side to the XDR.
However, what you seem to forget, is the Cell can read and write the RSX's memory and vice versa, whilst it's a pain, it's dooable, and it's being done.. The PS3 advantage is of course, you still have the 3.2Ghz clocked XDR..
As for the ATi being a better chip, did you forget the bit where ATI did not design it, Microsoft did it inhouse (which is why it's crap and overheats). Performance-wise they are very close, but add in the fact that Cell+RSX combo will totally obliterate the 360 offering, and it's a pointless comparision..

I voted down your hiccup and up your apology.
So, we're even.
:)
To be serious for a second. I admire that you at least acknowledged your mistake.

Hmm, I'm curious, what happened to that Yakuza mentioned to be released not too long ago? Was that Yakuza 2?
Either way, good to see it. Lets see some more Shenmue multiplat just in case I can't pick up on one or the other :)

The yakuza series is actually highly regarded among the hardcore gaming circles. But considering you brought out Haze yet again, I figure your base of knowledge barely extends beyond internet memes. Ah yes, Giant Enemy Crab and All You Base Are Belong To Us... does someone need to know anymore to appear witty rather than mentally flatulant? I don't know, let's see where this comment voting goes.

Its a great game and you should definintely check it out.
The story goes, the main character was an orphan, who was adopted by the leader of the Yakuza and at the start of the game he has everything going for him. Hes become romantically involved with the girl everyone wants. Hes well respected by his peers and is even being rumored to be made the head of the new yakuza family. But on 1 faithful night, it all goes to hell. I wont give anything away, but lets just say that bullets go flying and he ends up in prison for 10 years because of his stubborn loyalty. When he finally gets out, he goes on a mission to find out what really happened that faithful night, find out what happened to his love and his friends, and basically put back together the pieces of his life in the middle of a yakuza gang war.
The gameplay is a lot like Shenmue, where you wander around the streets of a closed city area; asking tons of questions and occasionally helping people out. You can also play pool, go to strip clubs, go on dates, and other distractions.
Two things that suck about the game: 1) theres AlOT of loading in the game. Most of the loading is short, but its so dam frequent its annoying. 2) Theres ALOT of random battles that take place in the game. It seems like on every block, theres some ahole gang members that pick a fight for no reason, and later in the game it gets very tiresome. Especially because theres loading times for it.
Overall though, its a great game. The characters (especially this little girl you have to take care of) are very likeable and its worth putting up w/ the flaws to see the story through.

Actually "Mike" go and re-check your specs.
You're wrong, cell isn't designed for games and will never show a performance advantage.
Sony fooled you. It's widely accepted that the 360 GPU is more powerful and the flexible RAM allowance allows for easier development. You spout forth yet you bring no evidence. Show me one game that has "obliterated" the 360 hardware wise? (or any other way for that matter)
Your precious mega-exclusive MGS4 (if anything was going to use cell, it was that) has come and gone, cell has been proven pointless - get over it.

Just one more thing, if cell is so amazing, explain to me why a PC with a 2 core processor and a graphics chip comparable to current gen consoles (360 and PS3) can still outperform them?
Oh, is it because the cell(at the level it's at in PS3) is completely unnecessary and Sony's new "emotion engine"? (yea, remember that?)
