2K Games has announced a partnership with Dark Sector developer, Digital Extremes, to aid in the completion of the PlayStation 3 version of superb submerged shooter, BioShock. Digital Extremes is the fourth studio to join the project -- 2K Marin, 2K Australia and 2K Boston have already dove in -- and aims to give PS3 players a "fully optimized experience," complete with new features and content. And trophies, probably.
James Schmalz, CEO and founder of Digital Extremes, noted that the decision to work on the critically acclaimed project didn't even require a brain. "When 2K approached us to assist with development on BioShock for the PLAYSTATION 3 system, it was a no-brainer," he said. "You really can't ask for a more exciting, technically impressive world to work in than Rapture, and the incredible knowledge and talent between the 2K studios and our team at Digital Extremes is unprecedented." Apparently, when it launches this October, BioShock will make the PS3 "sing with Big Daddy goodness and Little Sister 'thank you's'."

I only played the demo and some parts are hard and too dark (Damn you current gen graphics) but the Tron disc of doom was awesome.
I just wished the game was more colorful, even the Darkness allowed you too see things more clear.
When Dark Sector, Naruto: RoaN and The Simpson’s prices drop here I’ll buy all of them.Funny DMC4 price dropped very quickly here but Naruto is a still at the same price.

Exactly arrgh
As for rental I sorta agree with that statement. I mean really after you've gotten all the cheevos what else is there to do? I played it thru 4 times...1st on the lower difficulties while trying to get as many basic achievements as possible.
2nd time I killed all the lil brats.
3rd time I played on a harder difficulty and I saved the lil angels...
And the 4th time I saved them and I focused on getting all the remaining achievements I had not gotten.
It really doesn't require more than a week or 2 worth of time. Once I had done everything I put it away and moved on.
Great game but in the long run it doesn't have a lasting replay value like some other games. Still though I'm glad its a part of my 360 library collection.

Digital Extremes are not EA, that must count for something..
Plus this isnt an outside job, if you read it properly it never said the entire job was being given to Digital Extremes. It seems they are merely helping the various 2K teams because of their experience with PS3 coding.

patchwork port pieced together spanning multiple studios?
Yep that definitely does NOT have PS3 coding nightmare written all over it.
How many studios can code properly for ps3 already? Now they want to throw a bunch into one port?
I remembered hearing a word to describe this kind of descision
Fail.

Making something look better would be consider Optimizing you silly little boy.
Old jokes are great, with reactions like that :).

It's already been stated that the graphics will look identical with very very few differences.

Wonder if this has anything to do with the delays Epic had when trying to get the Unreal 3 engine to work on the PS3 properly?

Sad that the ps3 is getting this game but I doubt it will sell as well as it did on the 360...games gonna be over a year old and most people who were excited about it probably got it for PC if they were sony fanboys...

And by optimize, does that mean they plan to include Southpaw in the PS3 version?

AKA - It'll almost rival the PC in visuals.
Of course there'll be trophies. Transplanting the 360 achievements over is cake.

The PS3 couldn't handle PC visuals from 2 years ago, hows it all of a sudden going to do it now?
The likely truth is that 2k wasn't going to waste their time & energy trying to get the game running on that pig of a PS3.
Its funny how the PS3 fanboys grasp on to words like 'optimize' and let their imaginations run wild, interpreting it as 'teh hidden powar of PS3 will be r3vealed!'

Not gonna buy this, im gonna borrow it from a friend for the 360 (when i get one). Its good to see that ps3 owners will get to play this, but it shoulda launchd at the same times cuz now the sales will not be very good, since we got a bunch of other games to look forward to.

Not interested. I played the PC version and I just couldn't the hype that surrounded this game. Good-to-average looking game. It played OK ... some sections were a bit scary but nothing that hasn't been seen or done before. IMHO.

why would 2k look for others for the job? i thought 2k already have enough talent for the job, sound very fishy to me... no disrespect, but i don't think digital extremes is the answer
