Guitar Hero: On Tour a hit, 300k sold in first week
Activision announced this morning that Guitar Hero: On Tour is booking gigs all over and has sold 300,000 units in its first week. The publisher states that GH:OT is the company's best launch on the DS by a factor of eight; not only that, but it's also one of the top five best-selling launches "in the company's history."
Activision's Mike Griffith -- who's probably still high from his $1.5 million bonus -- is excited about GH:OT's "breakthrough peripheral" bringing the Guitar Hero experience to the potential 41 million DS owners in NA and Europe. All we know is we'll have entered a strange new world if we start seeing people playing this game on public transportation.

I really can't believe that many people have bought this game. It's a portable game that makes you look like an asshole when you play it outside of your house.
For that matter, where are the Guitar Hero: Aerosmith numbers? That game should be selling like hot cakes because Guitar Hero is branded to it. It's Aerosmith, people! They're ridiculously overrated and what's more is that the guitarist barely switches it up from chords.
Mr.ESC @ Jul 3rd 2008 1:41PM
Believe it or not.
Some people actually like Aerosmith, shocking isn't it?
I like Aersomith but I've never heard most of the songs in GH:A.I'll give a try tho' is my money anyway.
DangerMouse @ Jul 3rd 2008 2:04PM
You'll look like an asshole playing a DS outside your house regardless.
Mr.ESC @ Jul 3rd 2008 2:42PM
It can't be worst than playing Doki Doki Majo Shinpan in public...not that I know.
Levi @ Jul 3rd 2008 4:26PM
DM, you probably look like an asshole with or without a DS.
Mr.ESC @ Jul 3rd 2008 1:37PM
I think I will give it a try even when the package looks a lot like a Crayola box.
arrrgh @ Jul 3rd 2008 1:41PM
fuck it, if i still cared about the complete shitpile that the rhythm music genre has quickly become, i'd rock that on a bus...
Too bad guitar hero and rock band have long outlived their usefulness in my world.
Jay @ Jul 3rd 2008 2:32PM
God I long for the day when muisic games were an exclusive niche genre that were only played in arcades....then Konami had to little-girl-ify DDR and that went to hell. The first GH was good but has gone downhill since.
WE HAD A GOOD GAME....IT WAS CALLED ITG....KONAMI KILLED IT BECAUSE THEY GOT BUTTHURT THAT IT WAS ACTUALLY BETTER
/rage
Jhongerkong @ Jul 3rd 2008 6:02PM
ITG may be better, but DDR is still awesome.
Toasty Toaster Man @ Jul 3rd 2008 1:42PM
Did anyone really expect it to fail? It's Guitar Hero, it's on the DS.
Brent @ Jul 3rd 2008 1:43PM
EPIC SUCCESS!

Rock Band: On Tour inbound in 5... 4... 3...
Colin @ Jul 3rd 2008 5:15PM
No way would we every feasibly see a Rock Band iteration on the DS. Even though I could see it working obviously with the mic and fret button attachment the drums would be possible but not reasonable (or Fun) to play with the touch screen.
My hope is that if EA and Harmonix do decide to go mobile they just keep simple but still fun. They could also build in some features that would let Rock Band 2 work with the mobile version. I say call it "Rock Band : Roadies".
Fernando Rocker @ Jul 3rd 2008 1:44PM
Well... I have the game. The hardware is pretty solid, very well done. And the sound quality is good enough.
Gameplay feels exactly like Guitar Hero. Only problem is that $50 dlls. is a lot for just 25 songs.
Best deal would be $40... not cheaper, because the hardware is pretty good quality.
But I prefer Elite Beat Agents or Ouendan over this...
Fernando Rocker @ Jul 3rd 2008 1:46PM
Elite Beat Agents is more fun, much better gameplay and the stories and characters are very funny.
arrrgh @ Jul 3rd 2008 1:50PM
if only the elite beat songs were better :(
Superstar90 @ Jul 3rd 2008 1:56PM
I loooooved EBA, the songs were pretty good too (IMO). I didn't like the avril lavigne song, but playing that level was fun.
Slayer @ Jul 3rd 2008 9:07PM
Speaking of guitars check out what I just brought yesterday. :)

It's a good game and people go insane bashing it. I don't really play my DS outside, so I can't talk about people's reactions to it, but I love playing it at home. It's fun and easy, and a great way to pass time.
KeenCommander @ Jul 3rd 2008 1:58PM
I'm not surprised. The DS is a phenomenon, GH is a phenomenon - combine that two and, regardless of the quality of the game - though it actually looks pretty good, you've got an all but guaranteed success.
MC Double Def DP @ Jul 3rd 2008 2:01PM
Holy Sh*t! I got this game and I still can't make it through a song w/o my wrist going into extreme cramping. I've tried holding it all different kind of positions. Maybe I'm just old, but I never have had videogame related injuries before except blisters on thumbs from street fighter II.
Any tips?
DangerMouse @ Jul 3rd 2008 2:02PM
I guess you haven't played Metroid Prime then.
DangerMouse @ Jul 3rd 2008 2:03PM
^fiddlesticks. I meant hunters.
iofthestorm @ Jul 3rd 2008 2:35PM
MP:H was my first DS game, and it scared the crap out of me because I thought all DS games would cause massive hand cramps.
acefondu @ Jul 3rd 2008 3:38PM
lol @ 'fiddlesticks' it just made me laugh, I don't know why.
baby sea tuna @ Jul 3rd 2008 3:43PM
Mario Kart DS turned my hands into withered little bat-claws. :(
PojoMofo @ Jul 3rd 2008 2:14PM
I just dont get it...
BigD145 @ Jul 3rd 2008 6:11PM
You must be straight.
treqie @ Jul 3rd 2008 2:21PM
Is it just me who think the look graphically on this.. isn't that much different of the Wii version. Of course there are differences, but it's not a giant leap :P
Tom Jones @ Jul 3rd 2008 3:40PM
psp ver kthxbai
...Jan... @ Jul 3rd 2008 5:21PM
Can you even imagine how hard it would be to hold it if it was on PSP? Plus they'd have to add a strum and make it even bigger! Though I guess UMD would be able to hold more songs.
Well, I can't say I'm surprised this game sold well. Guess I'll buy it.
Co @ Jul 3rd 2008 3:15PM
"You'll look like an asshole playing a DS outside your house regardless."
Newsflash dude. Everybody looks liek an asshole palying any kind of video game no matter where they're at.
The key is NOT CARING.
Markez (MKWii 4339-2878-5120) @ Jul 3rd 2008 3:22PM
I'll echo Co's comments. WHO CARES what you look like for goddsakes? You look like a complete moron with a headset playing 360 inside, but somehow you care about what the world thinks, heaven forbid, if you play a handheld game outside the sanctity of your home?
GH for DS was surprsingly well done. My girlfriend has been playing the hell out of it. But I do have to agree, it hurts the hell out of my hand, just like Metroid on DS did.
Jacksons @ Jul 3rd 2008 3:37PM
It's an ergonomic nightmare :(
Me @ Jul 3rd 2008 3:34PM
I guess this means...SOMETIMES YOU CAN SELL!!!!!
coast19 @ Jul 3rd 2008 8:00PM
It would be impossible on the PSP unless you had some huge device plugged into it. But it does have the extra space with the UMD so that would be nice cause it would include more songs but best fits the DS : )
ToRo @ Jul 3rd 2008 8:39PM
Damn it. I was hoping to god this thing would fail. A friend mine said that guitar is becoming the next Sidekick or Razor phone. Everyone gets just because it's what the "kool kids" are doing. But in this case it's more like what the "Stoopid people" are doing.
ToRo @ Jul 3rd 2008 8:43PM
i meant to say guitar hero*
