Interviewer: For the fifth time, compare the PS3 to Xbox. The fanboys will love it.

Lempel: Eh...? Well, I think we finally have a better interface than Xbox. Jeepers...we can manage more content?

Interview: Ouch!! Totally dissed. The fanboys will eat this up! Sony PSN Director say XBL is a load of crap...!

Xbox Fanboys: Can you believe that? That arrogant Sony POS!!! Xbox is like uber times better than PSuck3!

This barely counts as news. Sony does has a better interface. It's true but not big deal. If Xbox has a lot of shovelware and stupid Toyota games, it doesn't mean Sony's lack of content on PSN is a good thing either.

Fans not fanboys, people. You'll either appear like a douche or a twelve year old.

It was kinda of funny reading all these comments. People being called SDF and their rivals the MSDF!

Wow, just wow!

If you have had your 360 since launch, you can remember how a few of the XBL updates failed and had to be patched almost that same day! YES, the updates did brick systems and YES, some of the updates had a few bugs in them until the next update. (for a while, it seemed as if they were coming about 1-2 weeks apart)

PSN reminds me a lot of how XBL was back then. The PSN is going through some growing pains right now. Nothing is ever perfect but, XBL is DAMN close!

Lets take a differnet approach, both XBL and PSN need more work. They both have their high points and their low points. People who are use to the XBox and XBL are use to the scrolling, so it doesn't bother them. With the PSN, yes their design is more efficient and better looking, but XBL can certainly hold their own.

Instead of talking about the now, lets talk about the future. We all know the next generation of consoles wont be downloads only, so why trying to have another generation of DVD based games, when you can have a whole new generation on Blu-Ray discs, which will cost the price of DVDs, even cheaper by 2010. Sony is looking ot the future for everyone, and most dont know it. Yes Sega CD and Sega Saturn used the disc-based format first, but PLaystation made it popular and worth using by others. If it wasn't for the PS2, gaming wouldn't be usind DVD-based discs.

Microsoft has melded the PC and the console world better than any other company out there, which is why Xbox gamers are loyal and have a large array of games compared to the PS3. But considering that the XBox 360 had a year on the PS3, in terms of games, PS3 has a shit load to choose from.

When comparing online stores, XBL is universal for all territories, whereas PSN is broken down into territories. If we were to look at PSN Japan, XBL has some stiff competition. Most look at the AMerican store, which has lots of games, but no where near that of XBL

Wii online sucks ass....

IN the end, PS3 lovers will favor PSN, XBox 360 lovers will favor XBL and Wii lovers will just stay confused.

Well XBL has A LOT of content so it's harder to organize. Unlike the PSN store where the level of content is not even close.

I thought Sony execs learned their lesson about this after all of the trash talking in the past. I still want my money from Jack Tretton who said if I found a ps3 on shelves last fall he would give me $1000.
And yes its true there were some 360 patches that did brick some systems. What those people with bricked systems didn't tell though is that their systems were modded to play illegal games. That's why they were bricked.
And don't forget Sdf fans that Sony still has a patent for ps3 drm that will prevent ps3s from playing rented or borrowed games. Google it if you don't believe me. So who knows when the next update will begin to install that technology in your systems? Maybe it already has.....

LoL....... i just cant count the problems that are all happenning to MICROSOFT X360, but i can tell you that my 2.40 installed corectly, and as stated by moffka, taken OFFLINE does not mean console brickage,but here are a FEW problems that the 360 has faced....
1.The xbox live internet was mainly DOWN for the months november, december and part of january,
2.RROD http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360_technical_problems
3.Actual firmare bricks from broken dashboards...
4.Microsoft selling refurbished consoles as NEW...
5.Scrathing BRAND NEW disks due to faulty, last gen disk tray.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360_technical_problems
This list continues on and on,unlike the list of xbox exclusives which gets shorter and shorter (BIOSHOCK)
PS:The PSN service is 100% FREE, it is more or less on par with Xbox live and even though a small number of features are still wanted,Its stil FREE......

Ok dude, just stop. XBLive was NOT 'mostly down' at ANY time. I never had a single issue and I am on Live every single night, as well as the overhwlming majority of people I play with.

MS selling refurb consoles as new is a complete fabrication, I am in the retail channel and that NEVER happens.

Sony hardly hold the high ground in hardware quality, I love how Sony fanboys convieniently forget the rampant 'Disc Read Error' problem and the class action lawsuit that followed while they refused to admit problems.

I've been on Live since its' inception and the PSN experience is inferior to the point of being a joke in terms of everyday, game playing functionality you just take for granted on Live. Even the new update didn't give basic things like cross game chat.

After myriad problems w/playability and communication issues with the PSN I gave up on it, especially after my favorite summer online pastime, online baseball, was an unplayable mess in MLB 08.

Yeah PSN is free alright, at least you got that information accurate.

@Eric

Don't be blinded by your fanboy light. Do some research (Google is your friend) because all of the information he posted is accurate. Especially the Live outages. Thats why they gave everyone that joke of a game Undertow for free. The outages where around December and January and not everyone experienced problems.

The problem if all of your evidence is anecdotal. Do some research.

You definitely make some valid points. Though I will counter in MS's defence by saying what Microsoft has done is brought uniformity to the system.

Ability to voice or text chat in game - required.
Achievements - required.
Custom soundtracks ability - required.
Being in one game and sending an invite to instantly join the game I'm in or hosting - required (if in MP).

Sony's answer is - it's up to the developer, or it will work for some games, but not all. And some of these things still aren't possible on the PSN.

Yes...I pay the oh so terrible $50 a year everyone rants about. But seriously. It's less than the price of a game. It's not a TON of money. Yes, free is better. But until Sony's service is actually BETTER then I will glady pay MS for their service.

@McPoop

First of all, not a fanboy, thanks; I own pretty much everything that comes out.

Secondly, I do my research - thanks for the condecending attempt, though. I never said there were no issues during the ramp up on Live during the Holiday, clearly there were - but the system was not 'mostly down' for over two months. They were about as 'widespread' as the current issue w/the 2.4 update, nothing really alarming overall but significant enough to warrant it being addressed.

I can't think of another time Live had that kind of issue that came to prominence and I've been on it since Mech Assault.

Convenient to ignore the other points that had equal veracity and misconstrue my point to the erronius poster.

Reading is fundamental

Sigh, Eric, i know that xbox live is currently slightly better than psn, i stated that in my comment, but it was mostly down during that period, microsoft even issued an apology and a free downloadable game, and it was much worse than the minor 2.40 faults (if any),yes you do get what you pay for..... bah! Sony is the penultimate company to be talking trash (nintendo being the last). When sony can give me simple things like private chat, and invite my friends from anywhere and achievements for all my games WITHOUT having to wait over a year to get them, then they can talk all the trash they want.

Sony=Japanese MS

I now fully believe that.

But to the topic there no point in comparing I don't feel like comparing frankly Sony copied MS' sucess with LIVE and now wanna act like there kings. did MS pull its last big update no.

Right now I'm sounding like a 360 fanboy but frankly Sony kinda deserves right now due to the fact that started the mud slinging I'd do the same thing to MS if they just pulled there biggest filmware update(this was Sony's only update to look forward to everything else is trash and don't expect another big one like this until next year this laid down the foundations of everything they needed to make there online experience better and worth something and it gets pull LOL and starting shit talking bad thing ya did Sony. I'd to hear MS just flat out dissed them tommorrow. I'm kinda surprised that the fanboys didn't just start saying LIVE/PSN sucks but actually had kinda good arguments.

heres
I'm really not interested in Home or at all excited cause I know only Casual players no offense are gonna sit around making there in game homes look better and playing Wii things(Pool and bowling basically) and that PSP arcade thing and none of this is about the game in your PS3 its just a big distraction knowing the PS3 there is gonna be loading in between things. Its just a waste to me. makes me think the PS3 think anything thats successful(XBL the first real console online gaming that was sucessful and Second Life its very popular heard like ten news reports on them doing online college classes and other stuff) can be copied well no offense to fanboys it just looks like that to me.

I hear what your saying. If Home delivers everything as promised it will be very different from Second Life. It basically looks like something to do when you want to chat with friends. The whole Live E3 demonstrations within the Home interface looks like a very promising feature. Live video podcast from all of the big video game shows live in Home. There is also the ability to visit levels of online games like Warhawk with members of your party and discuss strategy.

I have all three systems, running and online. PSN is still so far behind Live its not even funny. When I buy games that are for both systems and multiplayer I tend to look at the online support/service and I have to turn away from PS3 games all the time. When I look at the offering of the PSN store I'm usually perplexed at the lack of content. I've done more online play and game purchases on my Wii. If I were buying a system solely for online service its Live I would turn to. I could care less if it costs money. I get more than my share back from it. Besides I'm not in the camp who still saves money in a piggybank for a game I want. 50 a year is chicken scratch.

$50 dollars a year is chicken scratch, but $100 more for an extremely well engineered console is absolutely ridiculous. Not saying that you believe this but your comment reminds me how most people bristle at the higher cost of the PS3.

As for the content of the PSN, I believe it's very good and the quality of the games offered on there may not be as many as the XBL but the quality is definitely there. Warhawk, Tekken, Pain and StarDust HD and PixelJunk are all the ones I bought and I'm still playing all 5 of them with friends who come over or online. I prefer quality over quantity any day.

If you actually understood technical specs, you'd know that the only reason why MGS4 wouldn't be able to port directly over to 360 is the disc space. Everything else is, CPU, RAM, GPU, is better or better configured than the PS3. Think about that in terms of a 10 year product lifespan, and how unrealistic it is.

WOW, look who is calling the kettle black here!!! PSN is so watered down it's scary, XBLA has been the second coming for alomost 3 1/2 years now and still going. Yes, it needs an update but at least it works and dose'nt fry your system like the last PS3 download!!

I never considered not having cross game chat and custom soundtracks on demand an 'improvement'. So much for Sony doing things right. The PSN is still about 3 1/2 years behind the curve. And pulling the update does not equate to 'fixed' in my book.

By the way, in case no one is talking about it yet, we're starting to see a lot of PS3 drives fail. Who knows to what extent that will play out but the 'disc read error' should still be fresh in any Sony consumers' mind.

I love how they badmouth the interface they have been striving to copy for 2 years now, only when they are able to release a firmware that was supposed to mimick the xbox live marketplace and interface.
maybe he should have waited to make this comment until after 2.4 was installed on most every console.
and btw.. you fanboys are funny always defending sony on everything... lol...

yeah if sony sold 4 million copies of call of duty 4 and 4 million copies of halo 3 during the months of oct, nov, and december 2007 the PSN would have been down also...
the truth is that NO ONE WAS ON THE PSN during november 2007, and MILLIONS were on x box live, that is why there were issues.
i love how MYTHH left out the huge fact that most every ps3 online game has had some issues. gta4, mgs4, battlefield, cod4, orange box,, there were always time when the online was either down or had problems.

the truth is IMO that the box online experience is better and will continue to be better for years to come.

ms = software company ( interface )
sony = hardware company ( system tech)
