We'll Halo there: 'Cold Storage' map free on July 7
Like the rumbling of thunder in the distance, an unstoppable force is audibly and rapidly approaching us. Soon, a cacophony of clicks will ring through our ears, the reverberating result of posting an article which not only concerns Halo 3, but prominently features the word "free." What have we done?
Bungie's Luke Smith has announced via Bungie.net that "Cold Storage," a chilly new multiplayer map for everybody's favorite cyborg shoot-em-up, will be downloadable -- for free -- from the Xbox Live Marketplace beginning
[Update: Check out a tour of Cold Storage, along with a tease of what Bungie's got in store for Bungie Day, here.]

This is great news, Chill Out looks great, plus it's free. This news will help me get through the rest of my day at work.
Co @ Jul 3rd 2008 3:13PM
People still play this game? I guess not if they're giving away maps for free...
Magetto @ Jul 3rd 2008 3:16PM
A couple hundred thousand people still play the game at most times of the day. Seems to me like people still play it.
John @ Jul 3rd 2008 3:18PM
lulz, that logic makes no sense. You know that July 7 is Bungie Day? Maybe they just *like to please their fans*.

Yes, many people still play this game.
Vcize @ Jul 3rd 2008 3:20PM
Sure. There are probably still more people playing this game online than every game on the Wii online combined ;)

Funny thing is that's probably the same numbers as Halo 2 right now.
Co @ Jul 3rd 2008 3:23PM
Ah yes Vcize, because we are all definately discussing Wii online numbers VS. 360 online numbers in this thread.
Fake ass Gator fan....

Trying to spin free stuff into something negative? What a futile effort!

This got interesting.
Oooooooh Vcize...you gonna let him tell you that? :P

Why not do it today or tomorrow to kick off the July 4th weekend??? Not all of us are traveling doing family type stuff.
Friggin Bungie....always doing something cool but there's always some downside to it, even if its minor.
Tez (PSN: Tezasaurus) @ Jul 3rd 2008 3:19PM
lol, "Why are they releasing it after a big national holiday when most people will have time to play it? Some of us don't have anything better to do on the 4th than sit around playing Halo!"
Seriously, Bungie.
Snowblind @ Jul 3rd 2008 4:29PM
Because Bungie have this thing about the number 7.
7 Halo Installations, Spartan 117, and well.. there are many other references but a lot of them are very obscure, and not worth going in to :P
Anyway, free stuff is good.
Thanks Bungie.
ThePerfectCompanion @ Jul 3rd 2008 3:16PM
Sweet...love me some new maps...
I might even get Legendary at that price...
John @ Jul 3rd 2008 3:16PM
I wish Valve loved their 360 players as much as Bungie loves their players.
As much as I love Halo 3, I much prefer Team Fortress 2 and wish Valve (or more than likely Microsoft) would release some updates for us.
But I'll download this map eventually. For crying out loud, it's -free-.
mcatrage @ Jul 3rd 2008 3:42PM
Valve does love its players it just loves the PC ones a whole lot more.
Chris Mahoney @ Jul 3rd 2008 4:02PM
You should have gotten the PC version. It's better AND cheaper.
Obie @ Jul 3rd 2008 4:36PM
I am sure it's M$, not Valve that is keeping content to a crawl, as they want money and Valve likes things free.
John @ Jul 3rd 2008 4:45PM
I plan on getting TF2 once I get my new laptop for college (a bunch of my friends have the PC version too). It would have been hilarious to try and run it on my current laptop.
But hopefully once all the class updates are available for PC, Valve could convince MS to make a big update and throw in some maps too (Gold Rush please!).
grex9101 @ Jul 3rd 2008 4:49PM
Blah blah blah....
the PC AIN'T where it's at for some of us. As said before, I'd rather play tf2 on my couch with a beer on my massive lcd.
So FUCK YOU - Valve and M$. Hope you fucking ROT IN HELL for leaving us out in the cold.
Jacksons @ Jul 3rd 2008 3:26PM
Free fun? I'll take it!
Me @ Jul 3rd 2008 3:31PM
Even with he price drop, I'm still not buying the legendary maps. I used to only play on double xp weekend, but that changed when they made made it so you have to buy the map pack to play.
xFenixKnightx @ Jul 3rd 2008 3:38PM
that'll show em'

samfish @ Jul 3rd 2008 3:49PM
Don't pretend like you don't like 'em!
samfish @ Jul 3rd 2008 3:51PM
Hmm...
And shouldn't it be "Well Halo There"? As opposed to "We'll"?
Superstar90 @ Jul 3rd 2008 4:03PM
You got your avatar framed! You should put in on your mantel.
Jhongerkong @ Jul 3rd 2008 5:24PM
Its actually supposed to be "Y HALO THAR"
Trickob @ Jul 4th 2008 12:16AM
so I just looked at your profile to get a better look at your avatar and I noticed that you have 666 comments on wii fanboy.
j13 @ Jul 3rd 2008 3:53PM
The legendary map pack is a great addition to the game. I can't wait for this new free map. I do wish however, that Bungie would stick these into the regular rotation a lot faster, like COD4 did with theirs.
A lot of user created variants are also worth the extra money for that pack.
Obie @ Jul 3rd 2008 4:05PM
Heck, not bad. I will bite, I wanted to try the remake of Sidewinder and I love Chill Out.
SenorDeadite @ Jul 3rd 2008 5:19PM
Sweet! Perfect timing too, 'cause I'm broke.
Jhongerkong @ Jul 3rd 2008 5:25PM
Wish there was a remake of Blood Gulch
Cyro @ Jul 3rd 2008 5:42PM
That would be nice :)
