New MGS4 camo DLC hits with LOLs aplenty
We were starting to think that the new camo patterns available for download via Metal Gear Solid 4's "Extras" screen were going to be fairly mundane. Silly us! This is Hideo Kojima we're talking about here, and behind his stoic stare the guy has quite the sense of humor.
Case in point: the two new OctoCamo patterns available today. Called "Laughing Camo" and "Raging Camo," they cover Snake in text when equipped (which doesn't exactly sound like the best thing for, you know, stealth gameplay). These patterns aren't about hiding from enemies, though ... their effects are actually seen when you get near them. They cause PMC soldiers and other foes to break out into laughter and howling on sight, rendering them temporaily stunned. (Making the new camo settings something you'll want to use only on your second, third, fourth, or fith play-through, lest you ruin a "pure" first-time experience.)
Taking on The Patriots and getting kooky with Kojima? That's what we call a fun way to spend the Fourth.

Haha that is awesome. I need to get a PS3.
JG @ Jul 5th 2008 2:07AM
Yeah. It's worth going to get a ps3 because of this silly costume download for mgs...
I'm not buying one of those things until it gets closer to the magic number ($250) or it gets some exclusive games you'd want to play for a few weeks or longer(MGS4 can be beat in well under 10 hours by skipping the cutscenes..) So far it doesn't seem worth it to buy one yet...things been out for what, over 2 years now, and it has crap for exclusive games.
Zoesch @ Jul 5th 2008 4:24AM
How long did it take you to finish the Halo 3 single player campaign?
You still have MGO to play online for as long as you want.

i think i've seen your post somewhere before, hmmm...
let me ask you this, has clowing up your own base never been so much fun? just wondering
Bucfann @ Jul 5th 2008 12:57PM
Funny how all Sony fanboys unite and downgrade JG's comment.
@Zoesch MGO online? Are you seriously going to compare that to Halo online? MGO online is like many other online modes for certain games, youll play it for a while, and quickly grow bored with it and find something more worth your while. OHHH unless you have a PS3 then your choices are somewhat limited now arent they?
wootman @ Jul 5th 2008 2:38PM
@buc
COD4.
j.howlett @ Jul 5th 2008 3:22PM
different people think different things or worth it. it could be he was already leaning towards getting a ps3 and mgs4 and this just pushed him further. he could be looking for a decent bluray player that als upscales.
SilentBob251 @ Jul 4th 2008 11:08PM
Haven't checked the PSN store. Is it free?
Roto13 @ Jul 4th 2008 11:22PM
It's not actually in the PSN store. Once you beat the game, you get access to the "Extras" menu where you can download new camo and songs. They're free.
juju187 @ Jul 4th 2008 11:25PM
if it is i would be jealous
PSN & GAMERTAG: jorojoserojas - Wii FC: 0749-8609-3752-6926 @ Jul 5th 2008 4:43AM
Yeah, the extras for this game have all (thus far) been free. That includes the camo, the songs, and the Metal Gear Database.
Vii @ Jul 5th 2008 5:40AM
@Roto13
Actually man the extras menu appears even before you beat the game. All you need is a network connection to dl them. There are a couple of songs available too.
Roto13 @ Jul 4th 2008 11:21PM
You can't download them until you've already finished the game anyway. :P
Scott @ Jul 5th 2008 12:31AM
You don't have to beat the game to access and download the Extras.
Kevin @ Jul 4th 2008 11:59PM
Yeah, it's free. Just find it under the extras menu when you boot up MGS4.
Jhongerkong @ Jul 5th 2008 12:33AM
OMG LOL!
Ninjakamster (PS360 FTW!) @ Jul 5th 2008 12:33AM
I wuv this generation with the extremely high broadband penetration and internet connectivity and DLC to extend a game after its been beaten to lengthen its replay value. : )
Nightvortez @ Jul 5th 2008 12:44AM
That's awesome, perhaps Tecmo can learn a thing or two from this.
BananaBoat @ Jul 5th 2008 12:52AM
I'm not going to be happy until I get my Mario or Link camo. Snake was in smash bros for crying out loud, so where is mah Nintendo camoz.
Either that...or a camo that makes everyone piss themselves (which is clearly possible). That would be freaking epic.
Yourself @ Jul 5th 2008 2:10AM
There's a slight difference between a Konami character appearing on a Nintendo console, and a Nintendo character appearing on a Sony console.
j.howlett @ Jul 5th 2008 5:49AM
sony made a 32-bit, CD based, gaming system for nintendo, but were left holding the bag while they went bombing dodongos.
SoulBlade @ Jul 5th 2008 1:46PM
Yea and when they opened the bag they found a PSX which totally owned the videogame market
Vincent060 @ Jul 5th 2008 1:02AM
I love the camo system in MGS4. Does anyone know about the hidden camo patterns in the game? I found one called Hand Camo in South America when you have to track Naomi. At one point when you activate night vision you see hand prints on the floor leading to an area with concrete squares with handprints like in Hollywood. If you lay on it you can register it. I'm not sure if it has a special effect or if there are more or if you unlock something from finding them all, but it's still cool.
Word Up, North Korea! @ Jul 5th 2008 1:15AM
I'm sure there will be more, crying and screaming at the very least
why not the LS2LS7? @ Jul 5th 2008 1:18AM
Is one of them a Matt Lesko outfit?
GJ @ Jul 5th 2008 2:09AM
Yeah. It's worth going to get a ps3 because of this silly costume
download for mgs...

why not the LS2LS7? @ Jul 5th 2008 2:49AM
Oh crap. Sony should pack it in. Even horse armor hasn't convinced GJ to buy a PS3. Clearly there's not a lot of point in going on.
j.howlett @ Jul 5th 2008 6:06AM
then don't get one. easy

Damon @ Jul 5th 2008 2:52AM
It's funny how MGS4's costumes are free and actually affect gameplay while ninja gaiden's, while badass, are completely cosmetic and cost 2.50 each.
I wonder what they look like, incidentally. Snake'd have to look pretty ridiculous to cause a hardened mercenary to burst into laughter in the middle of a warzone.
CenturionRyan @ Jul 5th 2008 5:31AM
Actually, it's just a black suit with yellow kanji (I think) written all over it.
Peter Reardon @ Jul 5th 2008 7:21AM
The MGS4 camo downloads are available in the "Extras" section of the MGS4 main menu. There you connect to the PSN Network, and the new camo downloads should be available under "Camo Patterns" or whatever it is :P
Shangheli @ Jul 5th 2008 8:15AM
Already? I bet they just took it out of the final game to sell 3 weeks after release? Did MGS4 sell that badly?
j.howlett @ Jul 5th 2008 8:36AM
yes, yes it did sell that badly. i have it already but it might not be to late for you. don't pick it up if you haven't, its not even woth you reading any post about it. heed my warning and steer clear of the gekkos
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Jul 5th 2008 10:24AM
sell? These are free.
kagai @ Jul 5th 2008 1:07PM
That's pretty cool.
SoulBlade @ Jul 5th 2008 1:53PM
That is some really cool DLC.
Some of the people on this site are awesome. They're clearly upset about the PS3 actually getting better or assume all DLC costs something. Really... it's ok.
I hope more FREE DLC like this comes out in the future for all games.
