We were starting to think that the new camo patterns available for download via Metal Gear Solid 4's "Extras" screen were going to be fairly mundane. Silly us! This is Hideo Kojima we're talking about here, and behind his stoic stare the guy has quite the sense of humor.
Case in point: the two new OctoCamo patterns available today. Called "Laughing Camo" and "Raging Camo," they cover Snake in text when equipped (which doesn't exactly sound like the best thing for, you know, stealth gameplay). These patterns aren't about hiding from enemies, though ... their effects are actually seen when you get near them. They cause PMC soldiers and other foes to break out into laughter and howling on sight, rendering them temporaily stunned. (Making the new camo settings something you'll want to use only on your second, third, fourth, or fith play-through, lest you ruin a "pure" first-time experience.)
Taking on The Patriots and getting kooky with Kojima? That's what we call a fun way to spend the Fourth.

Yeah. It's worth going to get a ps3 because of this silly costume download for mgs...
I'm not buying one of those things until it gets closer to the magic number ($250) or it gets some exclusive games you'd want to play for a few weeks or longer(MGS4 can be beat in well under 10 hours by skipping the cutscenes..) So far it doesn't seem worth it to buy one yet...things been out for what, over 2 years now, and it has crap for exclusive games.

Funny how all Sony fanboys unite and downgrade JG's comment.
@Zoesch MGO online? Are you seriously going to compare that to Halo online? MGO online is like many other online modes for certain games, youll play it for a while, and quickly grow bored with it and find something more worth your while. OHHH unless you have a PS3 then your choices are somewhat limited now arent they?

Yeah, the extras for this game have all (thus far) been free. That includes the camo, the songs, and the Metal Gear Database.

Actually man the extras menu appears even before you beat the game. All you need is a network connection to dl them. There are a couple of songs available too.

You don't have to beat the game to access and download the Extras.

Yeah, it's free. Just find it under the extras menu when you boot up MGS4.

The MGS4 camo downloads are available in the "Extras" section of the MGS4 main menu. There you connect to the PSN Network, and the new camo downloads should be available under "Camo Patterns" or whatever it is :P

That's awesome, perhaps Tecmo can learn a thing or two from this.

I'm not going to be happy until I get my Mario or Link camo. Snake was in smash bros for crying out loud, so where is mah Nintendo camoz.
Either that...or a camo that makes everyone piss themselves (which is clearly possible). That would be freaking epic.

There's a slight difference between a Konami character appearing on a Nintendo console, and a Nintendo character appearing on a Sony console.

I love the camo system in MGS4. Does anyone know about the hidden camo patterns in the game? I found one called Hand Camo in South America when you have to track Naomi. At one point when you activate night vision you see hand prints on the floor leading to an area with concrete squares with handprints like in Hollywood. If you lay on it you can register it. I'm not sure if it has a special effect or if there are more or if you unlock something from finding them all, but it's still cool.

Oh crap. Sony should pack it in. Even horse armor hasn't convinced GJ to buy a PS3. Clearly there's not a lot of point in going on.

It's funny how MGS4's costumes are free and actually affect gameplay while ninja gaiden's, while badass, are completely cosmetic and cost 2.50 each.
I wonder what they look like, incidentally. Snake'd have to look pretty ridiculous to cause a hardened mercenary to burst into laughter in the middle of a warzone.

Actually, it's just a black suit with yellow kanji (I think) written all over it.

Already? I bet they just took it out of the final game to sell 3 weeks after release? Did MGS4 sell that badly?

That is some really cool DLC.
Some of the people on this site are awesome. They're clearly upset about the PS3 actually getting better or assume all DLC costs something. Really... it's ok.
I hope more FREE DLC like this comes out in the future for all games.
