Raven Squad to marry RTS, FPS this fall
Hey, you got real-time strategy in our first-person shooter! That's the mantra we could be chanting this fall when SouthPeak and Evolved Games partner to release Raven Squad: Operation Hidden Dagger, a new RTS/FPS hybrid, for the Xbox 360 and PC.
Developed by Budapest, Hungary outfit, Atomic Motion, the game will allow players to swap between both real-time strategy and first-person shooter gameplay as they take control of two mercenary squads fighting their way out of the Amazon, the first shots of which can be seen below. However, as interesting as the mash-up sounds, there is an old saying about doing one thing, and doing it well, and we can't help but feel that Raven Squad will be a jack of all trades (well, at least two), and a master of none.

i don't have a good feeling about this. Seems cool in theory, but idk how execution would work

damn, i didn't read the last line, my post was kinda pointless :P

Sounds like a game I played years ago called natural-selection.
Will @ Jul 4th 2008 5:54AM
There's also Tremulous, which is very similar to natural selection. It's open source, too!

And Savage, and Savage 2
Charlie_Six @ Jul 4th 2008 5:09AM
The Battlezone games did RTS+FPS and I really loved them, despite the god-awful AI :P
RatBoy @ Jul 4th 2008 8:49AM
Agreed, Battlezone proved that the FPS+RTS mix can be fun, even with some execution flaws.
Shignami @ Jul 4th 2008 9:41AM
Battlezone 2 was one of my favorite PC games a few years back.
Christian @ Jul 4th 2008 6:32AM
This is already done. Savage and Savage2 did the FPS+RTS mixed game twice already.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Then I wondered to myself what ever happened to Savage 2, I was waiting for that game and it managed to fly completely under my radar. Looking at Gamespot I see it came out on Jan. 16th and they didn't even review it, which is disappointing to say the least. I might still pick it up because I enjoyed the first so much.

This looks like another horrible game....why do they even bother....
TeraPwn @ Jul 4th 2008 10:28AM
My god this looks a lot like FarCry, the weapon, the environment, the HUD, but it seems like an interesting concept, I didn't like Savage cuz i want something realistic

this is a PC title all throughout, especially if they are asking for RTS. The 360 version should help with the bottom line though.

This won't suck.
Mutagenaric @ Jul 4th 2008 12:58PM
Source has a mod call Empires that is basically FPS/RTS. Only it's got buildings and stuff, too.
Triple07 @ Jul 4th 2008 5:28PM
I have a bad feeling about this game...Cool idea but it just seems like it would be very hard to pull off
Smith @ Jul 23rd 2008 3:11AM
Natural Selection, Tremulous, Savage and Empires were all multiplayer games with no AI opponent....
