Confront the SOCOM: Confrontation trailer
42
Slant Six recently released a gameplay trailer for SOCOM: Confrontation, the series' maiden voyage onto Sony's current-gen home console. It looks faithful to the series' frantic, tactical roots on the PlayStation 2, though this trailer doesn't do a great job of showing off the game's new features and gameplay improvements. The graphics, though significantly gussied-up since its public unveiling last year, still could use a bit of polish -- though we'd be willing to sacrifice a bit of gussy for a steady framerate during the many 32-man multiplayer matches we'll be participating in. You can find out if it really does pay to be a winner when Confrontation drops on October 14.

Certainly can't wait for this one. Hopefully it will be as good as Metal Gear Online with the individual skills and levels. I know it is an online only game like War Hawk but it really does look fun especially if you have a group of friends who actually want to play as a team.

I can tell that you've never played a SOCOM game.

This game has me really confused. I've never played a SOCOM game except for the Tactical Strike for the PSP.
Is SOCOM supposed to be a tactical game or an action game? From the description of the gameplay it seems tactically-oriented but I've also seen videos of people running around like maniacs, wildly shooting. So what is it, tactical or action oriented?

They are tactical. The thing is with this one only being online you will need teammates who actually play the game together as a real unit.

Tactical Strike imo isn't really a good representation of the SOCOM series. Not that it's a bad game...its just not what SOCOM is normally like.
The PS2 versions (and even Fireteam Bravo 1 and 2) are what you should base SOCOM on.
That said, Confrontation will be nothing like Tactical Strike was...but the game is...in itself 'tactical'. If that makes any sense.

is it just me, or does the graphics looks very sub-par considering it's a playstation 3 game.

Yup they do, but keep in mind this is online only and multiplayer always takes a graphical hit compared to offline games.

Vince said it best. The graphics look a lot like the original games with a slight touch of next gen. If the gameplay is similar to SOCOM 1 or 2 I'll be playing this one all day everyday.

Just remember this is still the pre-alpha build you are looking at. This is not the finished product.

This isnt a finished product, but it isn't Pre Alpha phase either, this should be Beta by now, and if Im not wrong, it WAS rumored that it was in closed beta

@ McPoop
At this point, they are well past pre-alpha lol. Do you know how a development for a game even works?
Pre-alpha is what we saw when the game was originally showed.
This is well into the exclusive private beta that game testers are trying out.
When a public/private beta is released, your looking at an almost finished game with the only signficant changes being in bug fixes and adjustments to gameplay.
The game is released in about 3 months, I'd be very worried if this was actually at the alpha stages lol.

@Bobby S
Last months Qore video showed the game as it were in a pre-alpha state. Maybe they are in a closed beta by now I don't know. I am just going off what I saw with my own two eyes. I am signed up for the Beta through Qore. It has not been made available yet for download.

Nope, its considered a really tactical game, take in mind that if you die, you won't come back til the end of the round, also, the damage is much more accurate than other games...
The series isnt really good on the graphic department, but it more than makes up for it with the gameplay, there still people playing SOCOM 1...

its basically like COD4 search and destroy on hardcore..
but any game can be a run and gunner or tactical depending on the gametype and fellow players

Definitely pumped for this one. SOCOM is such a great series, and 2 was the best. You'll still find a crap load of people playing it. Buying this on day one.

The graphics on some of the other footage of this look alot better than this trailer for some reason...
anyways I'm looking forward to seeing how this game shapes up.
off topic: I hate the GT flash player

If you like COD4 and Warhawk...you'll probably like this.
It's 3rd person like Warhawk, and has the military feel of COD4.

If you really are serious about comparing this games graphics to gears of war, than you should do us all a favor and trade and just hit "alt-F4" and goto bed for the night.....Wake up in the morning and ask yourself , "Why did I make that dumbass comparison"
and for the record I am not a 360 fan boy...i have a PS3 and a 360..and this game looks like shit....

Even Stevie Wonder can see that This game looks like garbage...and the sad part is I was ACTUALLY looking forward to this game....but paying for an online only PS3 game with PS2 graphics is not whats hot in the streets.....

Because graphics make the game amiright?! You're an idiot. The game looks fine. SOCOM's gameplay was it's shining star - I could care less if it isn't the candy coated wonderland that is Halo 3. The first two games had an amazing onlin community, it just wouldn't be SOCOM if it didn't look like SOCOM.

The graphics look a bit underwhelming. And it looks like people are floating when running, which is bad, if true.
Here's hoping they improve things.

Hey, they could have gone the 360 route and filled the game with the same drab textures over and over(Gears) or even added in completely un-necessary bright & Shiny colors like Halo 3.
Then again, this is actually a good multi player series - who the fuck cares?

I have a fairly good grasp of the English language it seems and I know how to read... So I'll say that he never said anything about the gameplay in Halo or GoW. Instead he wrote about the visual presentation of them. I don't man, that's what I read at least. Maybe you Cyro can read better than me.

I'd forgotten why I had stopped playing SOCOM until this trailer. I've never been a fan of (rockets) in multiplayer gamers…

I'm actually psyched for this one...by the time I got my hands on the original SOCOM, I was too heavily into Xbox shooters, and didn't enjoy it...but nowadays my tastes have changed. Large-scale online tactical battles?! Count me in.
