David @ Jul 5th 2008 3:07PM
MNC this week has my vote.
Mark @ Jul 5th 2008 3:09PM
Awesome.
Mr.ESC @ Jul 6th 2008 8:52PM
I almost regret voting for Yahtzee instead of MNC.
That comic was awesome.
Joystiq I see you included 8-bit theater with the Yahtzee…I see what you guys did there.
Demaar @ Jul 7th 2008 11:53PM
Ditto... except I voted Zero Punctuation :P
Jonah Falcon @ Jul 5th 2008 3:17PM
I know ZP will get a huge chunk of votes, but I voted for PVP Online. That was good - and so true. heh
"You better answer his question, fat man."
Ghen @ Jul 6th 2008 7:30AM
I have a gamer wife, these jokes are every day for us =) So I voted for PvP too.
Some of the rest weren't even jokes let alone funny ones.
Donald @ Jul 5th 2008 3:19PM
Like Yahtzee will lose. HA!
Cal @ Jul 5th 2008 6:22PM
Well if he had some vaguely funny competition...
Donald @ Jul 5th 2008 8:40PM
As he stated in his video though that competition doesn't exist.
BPM [MKWii: 2578 3585 8392] @ Jul 5th 2008 3:26PM
Hmmm... Wasn't too impressed with this week's offerings. I guess I liked MNC, Extralife, Super Effective, PvP, and Castle Vidcon a bit, though.
ZP, while pretty funny, isn't a comic, but a video. So, it doesn't count.
samfish @ Jul 5th 2008 3:35PM
You know, Yahtzee has his own shitty webcomic you could have linked to instead.
I, of course, voted for Castle Vidcons because it is consistently awesome.
Rein @ Jul 5th 2008 3:59PM
Agreed. Castle Vidcons never fails to make me laugh.
Ross Miller @ Jul 5th 2008 6:57PM
I'd include Yahtzee's webcomics ... if they were game-related and more updated than 2 years ago.
Roto13 @ Jul 5th 2008 9:03PM
Castle Vidcons is, like, the master of subtlety. I'm voting for that, too.
Zertoss @ Jul 6th 2008 1:37AM
Castle Vidcons is genius. It consistently makes me giggle.
t_m @ Jul 6th 2008 10:55AM
i must have missed the joke....
i like his artstyle tho...
Korova *of the highlands* @ Jul 7th 2008 7:58AM
You know, you may be right Samfish. That is very good analysis. I dont know why I laugh at Yahtzee. And I got very high SATs.
I should know better.
/end sarcasm.
I agree that George Carlin's material was more profound. But they are both funny.
JCD @ Jul 7th 2008 8:48PM
Clearly I was in the can when you guys were passing the reefer around, because you must be high. Castle Vidcons looks like it was drawn with a dull pencil on a napkin, and rarely makes any sense. What was the joke in this week's comic exactly? The DS is getting a Chrono Trigger remake and . . . a magically animated Wii is upset about this?
The ZP films are usually genuinely funny. And this week's film was . . . genuinely funny! Imagine! Does he work blue? Occasionally (read: frequently!), but that doesn't make it any less amusing. After all, it isn't the content that makes it funny, it's the delivery. I doubt Dan Rather could get me to laugh at the seven dirty words you can't say on tv the way George Carlin could.
Neebs @ Jul 5th 2008 3:35PM
MNC got it from me this week because it's the funniest comic (read: I refuse to vote for ZP even though I love it).
All this makes me look asstastic because of what I said about MNC last week.
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Jul 5th 2008 4:38PM
Nothing can compare to grenade shank though...
It seems everybit as funny as putting land mines on your warhawk and flying into others.
BrennaCeDria @ Jul 5th 2008 4:40PM
It's okay, Neebs. I vote for MNC every week just because my husband and I are friends with that whole group (heck, we're going cross-country to PAX with them this year!) but just like every comic, they have down days. I am especially happy about the Shank Grenade, though, since my husband and I have been going on to "Irving" about merchandising that for quite a while.
Jakka @ Jul 5th 2008 4:50PM
O!
I loved doing this on UT2004. Manta + Eight Spiders + Kamikaze Rush = A shit load of kills!
SirCrumpet @ Jul 5th 2008 3:51PM
As much as I love Yahtzee, ZP just doesn't seem to fit right as a webcomic :)
Extra life was the stand out for me this week.
Obie @ Jul 5th 2008 4:23PM
MNC, never heard of them before, but that was boss!
ogvor @ Jul 5th 2008 4:25PM
My favorite strip would have to be Penny Arcade. They usually nail the humor, have some fantastic art, and have generally intelligent opinions on video games. Plus, their podcasts are hilarious.
Ethan @ Jul 5th 2008 4:31PM
So we basically get a 'none' vote this week?
BrennaCeDria @ Jul 5th 2008 4:33PM
I'm just thrilled that Ben and Co. went with the Shank Grenade as their "combined item" for this week's comic. My husband and friends (including "Irving") played CoD4 every Saturday night for quite a while after we finished our normal games, and Shank Grenade matches were always a blast to watch. This was the first thing I thought of when I saw the Alone in the Dark demos, and it's going to be how I remember the game regardless. :p
michas_pi @ Jul 5th 2008 4:40PM
Yahtzee FTW.
Fernando Rocker @ Jul 5th 2008 4:52PM
Castle Vidcons this week for me...
And yes, the winner will be Yahtzee with his unfunny "videos". I don't see why he should be included this week. Is not a comic.
Well, I guess there is people who enjoy curses and bad words jokes.
Atr-Slzr-Ctr @ Jul 5th 2008 5:24PM
Are You Stupid!?
I give you that this video =/= WebComic, but the guy its more than curses and bad words! He's clever in the way he put out the videos and random images (even he mocks of himself constantly!).
What The Hell, Man!
Are you sure this didn't have to do anything about his opinion on SSBB?? (I love that game,MGS4, and still find amusing those "reviews").
Fernando Rocker @ Jul 5th 2008 5:27PM
"Are You Stupid!?"
This is my point... I just don't find funny the humor that require the use of bad words.
Or to say offensive words to people, just like you did.
Sorry, I don't enjoy movies like Scary Movie, Meet the Spartans or videos like Yathzee.
Monkeydog @ Jul 5th 2008 5:49PM
To be offended by a set of words, and for that to be the reason to not find something funny, is stupidity in one of it's highest forms.
Yahtzee takes things and throws it in a smart and satirical manner, he does not get his humor by throwing out "bad words." He just does says it as naturally as he would be talking. He could do the whole thing without the use of obscene words but it would feel more forced. Someone needs to watch Mister Carlin's work.
And never put him on the same level as the crud that is the "Movies Movies."
Fernando Rocker @ Jul 5th 2008 5:53PM
Monkey
I never said that I feel ofended by what Yahtzee says. Is my personal opinion, and my personal tastes. I don't like obscene and bad words.
What I don't like if for example Atr, caling me stupid and I don't even said anything to him or to anyone.
Atr-Slzr-Ctr @ Jul 5th 2008 8:19PM
I didn't call you that, it was a question...
(ok, atleast now I got my answer ¬¬)
Tenn @ Jul 5th 2008 8:49PM
God, can you please grow a pair?
I don't understand how you're expecting to get a point across when none of what you're saying fits in context.
Yahtzee's humor clearly doesn't come from his use of oopsie-naughty language like you say, and if you really do think that then you must be utterly dense.
Then you throw "Sorry, I don't enjoy movies like Scary Movie, Meet the Spartans or videos like Yathzee..." into your argument. Can you read over that a few more times, please? I'm reading it as a sad attempt to strengthen your "point" by comparing Yahtzee's videos to completely unrelated movies that you know people hate.
You iz made of fail, lololol.
samfish @ Jul 5th 2008 10:17PM
Comparing Yahtzee to George Carlin is an insult to Carlin. He's not even on the level of Dennis Miller. Yahtzee's whole shtick is that he has a "funny" accent and uses foul language to bag on games by pointing out obvious shit that most reviewers don't.
Compared to what George Carlin did, Yahtzee is elementary at best. All they're doing is speaking truth to power. But that is what nearly EVERY comedian/funny man has done since Carlin (not to detract from Lenny Bruce, but it didn't take off until Carlin and Pryor came on to the scene).
If you wanted to boil down Yahtzee's gimmick, it would basically be:
• Say something truthful about game
• Say something 'dirty' and out of left field
"The controls are bloody fucking awful. A dog with flaming diarrhea dragging it's ass across the carpet has more accuracy than this shit."
There is absolutely nothing intelligent or truly insightful, however, in anything he ever says that you couldn't find from 'trolls' on any message board.
Basically, the humor is Zero Punctuation is more Family Guy and less Futurama.
There's nothing wrong with Family Guy's humor. But it's very In Your Face...there's no subtlety to it. There's nothing wrong with ZP's humor either, but please – let's NOT pretend that it's some great intellectual comedy.
Lord Bowser @ Jul 6th 2008 5:53AM
Says Samfish...
Monkeydog @ Jul 8th 2008 3:53AM
I know you'll never read this, but samfish, I never meant to compare Carlin's work to Yahtzee, because I whole heartily agree with you on that point.
Nor do I very much find it as some type of intellectual humor. It's just presented smarter than a lot of other video game humor around. It certainly is not intellectual when compared to Carlin, certainly not, but on the comparison to say...Dane Cook, it most certainly is.
j.howlett @ Jul 5th 2008 4:54PM
some of my fav strips come from machall.com and threepanelsoul.com that star city of villans character the homosexual agenda.
j.howlett @ Jul 5th 2008 5:00PM
also a recent strip from applegeeks.com had an obvious but funny exchange about spore.
Anni @ Jul 5th 2008 5:11PM
The ZP inclusion just ruins the sport of it, honestly.
And besides, Castle Vidcons was clearly MOST awesome.
MNC Dover @ Jul 5th 2008 5:22PM
If it wasn't for ZP, we'd be leading this sucker. Ah well, Yahtzee as always, brings up a bunch of good points. I'm of the firm belief that we will be right back to the middle or bottom of the poll for the next couple of weeks for sure. Just how it goes sometimes.
Atr-Slzr-Ctr @ Jul 5th 2008 5:24PM
So Yahtzee wins the WebComic Wrap-Up for its WebComic critic?
--- Oh,IIiiirony!(8)
j.howlett @ Jul 5th 2008 5:52PM
no auto PA win either
Titanium_Orchid @ Jul 5th 2008 5:35PM
Hard decision for me this week. ZP, Castle Vidcons, PVP, MNC. ZP gets my vote though.
Chris @ Jul 5th 2008 5:49PM
Response to Yahtzee.
Please note, just a bit of fun, do NOT take seriously :)

jcd @ Jul 5th 2008 8:10PM
better stick to making comics.
DBuck_Eye @ Jul 5th 2008 6:02PM
Oh I get it. When Strongbad tells how to make a webcomic in his sbemail, "webcomic," nobody cares. But when some Aussie speaks about webcomics, everyone goes nuts. Well ain't that just America for ya.
Ross Miller @ Jul 5th 2008 6:59PM
You mean when Strong Bad did it ... in 2007? Let me get my time machine and go back to when that was current events.
