So did this update cause a large amount of ps3's to fail, or is it over exaggerated. I haven't had any problems with update so far.
KingOfGods @ Jul 6th 2008 3:50PM
as long as your console is working fine....why does it matter?
Isaac @ Jul 6th 2008 3:49PM
It doesn't do anything to the PS3s. The update just causes your penis to shrink drastically.
mathab @ Jul 6th 2008 3:50PM
It's an over-exaggeration, but the fact that the update was pulled down means there might be some unforeseen bugs to-do with downloading the update and not the update itself. If there was any problem with the update, Sony would have issued a consumer alert.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jul 6th 2008 4:32PM
Well all the bitching was done on the internet, so that tells me it was greatly over-exaggerated
deaftly @ Jul 6th 2008 5:03PM

You have a PS3 deaftly? : 0

I think it was over exaggerated. I think the problem is that the PS3 at some point when the firmware is updating the screen goes black for a couple of minutes then the PS3 restart itself and now you've successfully updated your PS3.
Maybe some of those peoples after the screen went black thought that was not normal and restarted or turned off the console thus bricking it.
deaftly @ Jul 7th 2008 10:27AM
"deaftly" on psn and xblive buddy :P
NATO_Duke @ Jul 7th 2008 11:09AM
Actually, I had no problems I can directly blame on the update. Its working good overall. I lost some game saves for a few games, but I can't see any reason the update would have done that. Especially since I didn't lose all my game's saves. (I thought I was gonna have to start MG over as I updated at the end of Act 4!)
Either way, there is a problem of some sort out there as there has been a lot of reaction from Sony. It just doesn't seem to effect everyone.
Brett from Atlanta @ Jul 6th 2008 3:43PM
Yeah, I would start working on those trophies, but unfortunately they also pulled down sshd 4.0, so no trophies.
KingOfGods @ Jul 6th 2008 3:58PM
comments system acting up again
j.howlett @ Jul 6th 2008 6:24PM
i was just thinking as a funny conspiracy that they won't fix it because all the refreshing gives them hits. not even a half serious thought though, just something funny
Chase @ Jul 6th 2008 10:02PM
So it isn't just me? I was wondering why I had to keep refreshing the page to see my damn comment.
DangerMouse @ Jul 6th 2008 4:01PM
This in-game XMB everyone's been wanting doesn't do shit for me. In fact, there's a slightly annoying delay between when i hit the PS button and when i want to quit the game, while it loads all the icons and such, when it was instant before.
Blooper62 @ Jul 6th 2008 4:23PM
I found if you hold the PS button it basically goes to the old screen. I wish they would of kept the old menu just with a button to check messages or something because everything else is pretty much useless and it takes like a minute to load.
KingOfGods @ Jul 6th 2008 5:04PM
yeah the update was a nice try and a step in the right direction but maybe it's because I also own a 360 that I find the update still lacking features that my original xbox supported.
Not having cross game invites and a single friends list (Metal Gear Online) is a pain in the ass
I love to earn achievements in 360 games and I'm glad I can finally do the same on my PS3 but one thing I do find really funny is the fact that some of the readers at PS3 fanboy always bash the 360 and the fact that the achievements are worthless then I read comments like the ones in this post and can't help but smile.

@kingofgods
i still couldn't care less about "trophies".
Unless they actually do something, its just a little message that popups on my screen and gets in my way.
jordini @ Jul 6th 2008 4:31PM
Hold in the PS button and you can exit games without going to the in game xmb.
whistlepig @ Jul 6th 2008 4:34PM
updated fine for me and the in game xmb works fast and smooth on my L60 ps. no problems yet
PeterF @ Jul 6th 2008 4:38PM
Yeah you can only send text messages and thats almost it. I thought it would have in game voice chat but nope.
j.howlett @ Jul 6th 2008 6:12PM
i'm apprehensive any time i do an update because i know things can go wrong, but i'm glad mine works fine. i just hope its a step in the right direction for the achievement junkies, maybe soon it will be one less knock they have against the ps3. just hope it doesn't lead to people playing 2 versions of a game just for gamer score and trophies, unless its a game they enjoy thoroughly. i personally enoy when a game tracks things like gta and bully. the pokedex like clan primer is the main reason i started my ff12 game again after the power went out in the midst of a long session and i stopped for months. i just hope the trophies are meaningful.
juju187 @ Jul 6th 2008 8:54PM
stupid ppl sony in gonna pull down a firmware update due to a few forum post? PLZ forum, emails, and phone calls. i'm pretty sure a high volume to before they take these precautions. Sony Fucked up end of story deal with it and the small penis it causes.
juju187 @ Jul 6th 2008 8:54PM

been working fine for me. d/led the night it released along with SSHD.
one other thing i noticed that got pulled was a second add on for SSHD. I saw it when I checked for add ons for SSHD and wanted to check online if there were any reviews for it. It didn't sound that great but it mentioned a ship editor which intrigued me.
When I went to check again the next day it was gone.
