I'm now expecting GOW2 to work with MS's Wiimote ripoff if he's reversing his stance on waggle.

Don't worry, MS fanboys...you'll enjoy it. It's good for games like that (assuming it actually works...)

Maybe my mind's gone a little soft, but didn't Cliffy used to rag on the Wii for being a fad and supporting stupid waggle?

IMHO, Wii FPS easily beats dual-analog and rivals keyboard+mouse when done right. It's faster and gives you more control, plus just feels right.

Cliff is a fool. IMHO i think the controller needs a few more buttons. Maybe 6 thumb buttons along the front Like x,y,white and a,b,black for Fighting games. With the addition of a few more buttons the pc programmers won't complain the xbox controller will not handle the functions of their games.

I agree about the craptastic dpad. Ditch it and make a good one.

"try playing a FPS on the Wii or using motion detecting cameras and tell us how competitive or fun it ends up being"

You haven't played Medal of Honor Heroes 2 online yet, have you?

Seriously, if I could play Unreal Tournament 3 on my 360 using the Wiimote/Nunchuk combo, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Provided that it controlled as well as Metroid Prime 3 or MoHH2, of course.

My problem with the Wii isn't motion sensing per se, it's just that any time I've ever played it, the slightest move makes the cursor move halfway across the screen. It's way too sensitive and not remotely intuitive. I'd be willing to see how a motion controller worked for the 360 IF it was actually *intuitively* used, not with silly half-gestures that are kind of like the real gesture. I would still never want to see a motion controller completely replace the 360 gamepad though. It's definately the best pad I've ever used and I've always found it to be extremely intuitive.

While I don't think waggle is everything CB is making it out to be, I do agree that there has to be some innovation when it comes to console controllers. Layout and configuration changes just aren't going to cut it for the next-next-gen.

I applaud PS3's attempt, it just didn't really work out. It felt like more of a gimmick than a true feature.

Wii's integration of motion of course is revolutionary, but again poorly executed and is being horribly abused by the type of kiddie games and ridiculously low quality components it's churning out currently.

My suggestion? Give gamers the option. Why can't MS make motion controllers (in place of the analog sticks) AND traditional controllers? Then, we can have the option of using whichever one we feel most comfortable with depending on the game, and certain games can require the use of one or the other if it levels the playing field (or is a casual party game that relies on people acting like idiots in front of their videobox).

I mean, we used to have arcade style analog joystick pads for the SNES to play fighters, and we already have developed things like the big button Scene-It / Uno controllers (which are seriously much cooler than they might appear and work really well) that are under-utilized at the moment.

Regardless of how the current gen turns out, my money is going to the most revolutionary new system next-gen that has a balance of innovation and commitment to quality and generally "doing things right", which is MS to me with the 360 and might be Sony or Nintendo or somebody out of left field for the next one in a few years.
