GH: Aerosmith compatibility poll results are ... inconclusive

Now, considering how unscientific this methodology is, we're pretty sure our margin of error is in excess of 5%. Even if we were to consider the information accurate, we're still at a deadlock. Activision isn't talking (really, we've asked for a comment several times), so we're going to go with this: there are multiple versions of the Rock Band Stratocaster and some will work with Guitar Hero: Aerosmith and some won't. Really, that's the best we can come up with. Of course, this would be a whole lot easier if Activision would just agree to play nicely.

didnt really need any posts after this, sums it up perfectly

I'm listening to No One Knows - QOTSA as I read this. Coincidence? I think not.
Trickob @ Jul 8th 2008 9:46PM
I listened to that song a little while ago too!
...great, now it's stuck in my head, thanks! ;p

And your in my head, so I need it!
QOTSA fans unite!
Jeff @ Jul 8th 2008 11:22PM
I know, right? They have soooo many songs that would be great for Rock Band. You Can't Quit Me Baby, Mexicola, If Only, How To Handle A Rope, Feel Good Hit Of The Summer, Millionaire, A Song For The Deaf, Tangled Up In Plaid, The Blood Is Love...I could go on.
Same for the Descendents, but that's another story.
Zarim @ Jul 8th 2008 9:39PM
I reaplied "I don't really know..." just because as far as I could see that was the only way to see the poll results.
WiiFTW @ Jul 8th 2008 9:39PM
MOAR SPOILERS: No one bought GH: Aerosmith for the 360.
Hafk @ Jul 8th 2008 10:13PM
1004 Xbox 360 Expert players on Score Hero bought it.
Unless they would seriously mod their 360 and get banned from XBL. Doubt that.
Honestly, not much. I wonder when the week 1 sales figures are coming in. Some say that it was sold out, and others say that they found way too many copies. I own the Wii version. (I appreciate the improvements, but the songs aren't as good as the awesome Rock the 80s expansion)
Was it money well spent? Wait until it is marked down. Get it at a good price/used.

teh internetz strikes again!
Trickob @ Jul 8th 2008 9:43PM
I'd say, judging by the large number of people who don't know but want to feel included that a lot of people haven't had the chance to play any of these games, myself included. Not for a lack of desire but for a lack of money.
It just kind of reminds me that the first couple of years of the latest generation of gaming consoles is always the crappiest for those of us without much disposable income... Come ooooooon price drops!!
Tez (PSN: Tezasaurus) @ Jul 8th 2008 9:50PM
That's not what it means.
Hafk @ Jul 8th 2008 10:18PM
Exactly.
In my opinion, I think everyone should play this game before relentlessly bashing it. Especially for things like overcharting, which is pretty much gone in the game.
Just give it a rent, or borrow it from a friend.
j.howlett @ Jul 8th 2008 9:47PM
joystiq polls tend to turn out amusing
Donald @ Jul 8th 2008 11:12PM
Unless Crash Bandicoot is in it.
Donald @ Jul 8th 2008 11:15PM
I seemed to have misread and it would have been more appropriate to have put "especially" instead of "unless."
Rushed Joystiq comments tend to turn out amazing.
steve @ Jul 8th 2008 10:00PM
ehh aerosmith does suck so i can understand those results
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread) @ Jul 8th 2008 10:02PM
shouldnt it have been just a yes or no answer to the question anyway? i dont really get why a poll was needed in the first place honestly.
either way, it would appear not many people on this site bought the game anyway.
Jeff @ Jul 8th 2008 10:08PM
Maybe this would matter if Aerosmith was worth spending a nanosecond on...but they aren't. So I think the poll results make total sense.
samfish @ Jul 8th 2008 10:09PM
In retrospect, there was not nearly enough Crash Bandicoot in that poll, Joystiq.
Jakka @ Jul 9th 2008 4:38AM
Did I miss out on some kind of a new meme?

The wired Rock Band guitar works on Guitar Hero Aerosmith for 360.
This is fact.
ThePerfectCompanion @ Jul 8th 2008 10:22PM
This is totally off topic and I hope you guys forgive me but I just ran across an article on IGN about Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts! Looks like the game is sticking to its roots while expanding the game in new ways. 3 new vids and 4 pages of gameplay previews.
Really good stuff if you've been having doubts (as I have) regarding the game.

Dear Joystiq,
Heres a story for you. I went to my local Gamestop today. They had the new Demo in their Xbox Kiosk. THe new demo had a bunch of new demos (obviously) and lots of videos and downloadable content (GOW2 VIDEO!!!). I Noticed there was a Guitar hero WIRED lespaul on the interactive, there used to be a wired Xplorer - but it's been changed for months. Anyways, The wired guitar obiously is an ACTIVISION product (probibly just for demos's as wireless would be rediculas - the store employees would have to change the batterys every day) But here is where it gets interesting.
There has always been a Guitar hero demo on the Kiosk at gamestop for as far back as guitar hero 2 over a year and a half ago, but now with GH: Aerosmith the demo has changed - the demo is now GH: Aerosmith, but thats not the strange part - there is also a ROCKBAND (PLAYABLE) demo on there. Now I know microsoft don't take a bunch of different demo's and put them on a demo disk. They have to get the publishers permission to add them to their official kisok disk. It would make sense for GH: Aerosmith to be on the new demo and continue to use the Wired les paul as that is an Activision game and peripheral and they are going to want to market/promote the new GH: game until GH:World tour hits. But how did ROCKBAND end up on that demo? Most likely EA had to let microsoft put that demo on the disk (give permission) and of course it is a Game thats uses a GUITAR (+ other instruments) for the Demo. I can see Microsoft saysing to EA, YES - put rockband on our kisok demo disk and it will be in every gamestop across the USA and Canada, but EA didn't give 4000+ rockband guitars to put on the kiosk, people are playing rockband, the demo, on an ACTIVISION guitar and im sure EA knows it. How and why would Activision allow this? If this was a Playstation 3 kiosk?, this would not work as Guitar hero guitars don't work on Rockband and vice versa. With the 360 though, we know that the Guitar hero guitar (so far) are universal with every Guitar rock game (ALL THE GUITAR HEROS and ROCKBAND).
Something smells here. Did microsoft strong arm Activision and say, "We don't care, were letting EA put a rockband demo on our kisok and useing your guitar or were pulling all 4000 les pauls off our kisok" ?? Did EA offer to put a Rockband guitar on every kisok but microsoft refuse since it dont work with Guitar Hero and that has been on their kiosk for 15+ months now?
This beggs the question of, should microsoft tell all GAME PUBLISHERS, if you make a music intrument peripheral for the 360, you have to let other pubishers, and allow their games to work as well, on the peripheral you developed?
Tell me what you think?
IS this a good story?
Can you make this into a big deal? I think it is a big deal since we have EA and Activision constantly going back and forth about who's instruments belong to who, what works on what and stuff like that, yet MICROSOFT BLANTLY PUTS BOTH GAMES ON ONE DEMO DISK with only ONE GUITAR, the GUITAR HERO GUITAR. I think that speaks to who microsoft finds the better Game.
Please let me know what you think.
PS: I posted this whole Email as a comment in the RB/GH story...
baby sea tuna @ Jul 9th 2008 8:42AM
Yes, Microsoft (and Sony, and Nintendo if need be) needs to step in and make some sort of fake-plastic-instrument standard for all the publishers and hardware manufacturers to conform too. Sorry if Activision is getting sand in their vaginas for because their precious peripherals are compatible with another company's game, but the bottom line is that they're screwing us, the gamers.
Also, you don't think the 3rd party publishing companies themselves don't have to get down on their knees in front of the platform holders to get their games/peripherals in those demo kiosks? They should be thanking their lucky stars that they're even in there. I mean, when was the last time you saw a non-Ninteno 1st party game on a Wii (or Gamecube) kiosk? Rogue Squadron? Eternal Darkness? Yeah, me neither...
Since MS (Nin and Sony too) probably makes more money licensing the games (not to mention their percentage of DLC sales) than the peripherals, it's in their best interest to make it so as many people as possible can play the games. Of course, judging by how they treat program and peripheral compatibility on Windows, I'm going to say that it's not exactly their strong point.

That poll sucks.
DeadPlasmaCell @ Jul 8th 2008 11:52PM
Decent game, but only a renter for me. And my RockBand Guitar DOES indeed work for it.
Joe @ Jul 9th 2008 12:08AM
With the patch released a day or two after the game's release, Rock Band guitars do in fact work.
It's a decent rental. Some of the extra songs are great, like All The Young Dudes and She Sells Sanctuary.
jestergoblin @ Jul 9th 2008 10:45AM
I thought it worked on the 360 and didn't work on the PS3.
blakbuzzrd @ Jul 9th 2008 10:46AM
Activision's attitude toward controller compatibility is asinine, and makes me not want to buy their games.
Mike @ Jul 9th 2008 10:22PM
The poll is very conclusive. It says that 10.3% of the people that answered are t00ls.
WP @ Aug 26th 2008 3:32PM
Rented it for a week trip.
Took wireless RockBand Strat. Went through the menus. At game time it said "An unsupported peripheral" or something. Have to play with controller :(
Sucks arse!
