Yeah, we figured the Zero Punctuation would do well in the webcomic wrapup, by a large margin. Here's how it breaks down, with and without the Yahtzee factor:
For the first time in a while, Yahtzee put out something funny and relevant IMO so I had to vote for it.
I thought some of his reviews were TOO opinionated in that the perceived flaws were flaws for him alone. Like in the MGS4 review, he mentions how long the cut scenes are..when reviewing a METAL GEAR SOLID GAME...I think he also bitched about the singleplayer for SSBB not being worth it.
The point is that those two characteristics which he found faulty are hallmarks of the series (for Brawl it's more awesome multiplayer than shitty singleplayer). It's like he's faulting MGS4 for being in the Metal Gear Solid series. It's like faulting SSBB for having Nintendo characters (it has since the original).
Just because they are part of the series and known to be a regular part of each series does not made them faults. He was merely not being subjective by saying it matters for every game instead of giving some games a break because their predecessors did the same, or it's intentional.
ZeroTalent doesn't write a webcomic, he does a goofy spoken word / cartoon. So why is he in the running at all? Because he turned his carbon-copy 'acerbic wit' on something more successful than him?
More successful than him? If webcomics were more successful than Yahtzee, then he wouldn't have walked away with 65% of the vote(Which, I might add since you couldn't comprehend the results before, is the majority)?
Right, because an Internet voting system is a completely scientific and impartial measure of real-world success and/or quality.
PennyArcade is infinitely more successful than ZeroReasonToExist. This is probably because they actually produce something wortwhile, rather than limp rants about how everyone but them is stupid.
Wait, so the "winning" pick was the one that criticized all the crap comics that are being published? And you don't take a hint from that? Most of them aren't funny (seriously... they aren't funny unless you're, well, a moron) and the weekly webcomic roundup just forces us to pick the best of the worst.
My point would be that we need more game blogs that legitimately question the content they link to and factor out the stuff that really isn't important/funny (like most of the web comics). Otherwise you're just a source that links to other video game related sources, and any monkey can do that.
The problem is, that road leads to censorship-ish type things. Not quite censorship because it's not objectionable, just not entertaining. More importantly, it leads to one blogger who doesn't find a comic funny takes it out of the wrap-up, depriving many people who would have found it funny of the (humor?)
What should happen is people should only vote for what's legitimately funny and get rid of (over time) the comics that are deemed not funny by the majority.
I also think I'm partially upset that Joystiq took away the option of choosing "none of the above" or whatever they call it. If you want to go the censorship road, then you're taking away my ability to say "these all suck" and "forcing" me to pick one of a bunch of (most of the time) crappy comics.
Oh my god. Don't be an idiot. If you want to say they all suck, say it in the comments. Why are you acting like the only way you can speak your mind is through a poll? Why are you acting like anyone is forcing you to take part at all? Stop whining.
Wow. I'm an idiot for wanting the "none of the above" option back for web comics? I'm fine with that. How many other idiots are there on this site then? No, wait... I'm sure no one else visiting this site would want that option either.
Although I do seem to remember that when they had it it was quite a popular choice.
You're an idiot for acting like someone is putting a gun to your head and forcing you to take part in something you say you don't find entertaining. Maybe they didn't want the Webcomic Wrapup to be a place for people to bitch and moan.
That would be correct if he was using nazi to define himself as "a member of a German fascist party controlling Germany from 1933 to 1945 under Adolf Hitler," but he was using it as "one who is likened to a German Nazi: a harshly domineering, dictatorial, or intolerant person." Which, according to Merriam-Webster, is often not capitalized...
Not to split hairs, but take a look at often capitalize, which denotes that it is correct to capitalize. Anyhow, I stand by my comment, I made a typo which he tried to turn around.
Web "comes" are still lacking in humor, or wit.

Saying webcomics suck because there are so many bad ones out there is like saying music sucks because there are so many bad songs and artists, or movies suck because there are so many shitty student films, or video games suck because there are so many poorly-made browser games and shovelware.
The thing that's irritated me about the whole Yahtzee vs Webcomic thing is he branded all webcomics as being Penny Arcade clones and then exempted PA from any criticism, despite the fact they haven't had a single funny strip in about 4 months.
The current series about the Cold War ping pong player, or whatever the hell it's about, might be the final straw for me taking it off my list of RSS feeds.
