Star Wars Battlefront III surfaces on Amazon
Not too long from now, at a Media and Business Summit not all that far away, LucasArts may be announcing a new game in the Star Wars Battlefront series. Online shopping megalith Amazon.com has added listings for Star Wars Battlefront III ... for no less than six platforms. The game is available for pre-order and has what we can only imagine is a tentative March 15, 2009 release date.
A new game in the series is hardly surprising; after all, Battlefront is the best selling Star Wars video game franchise of all time. Reports of it being in development also popped up following LucasArts' recent layoffs, though the company would not comment on it or any other unannounced titles at the time.
Amazon has Battlefront III slated for availability on PS3, 360, Wii, PS2, PSP, and DS. If this holds true, it would certainly debunk an old rumor that the game might only hit Xbox 360. Now there's the matter of a developer. With Pandemic – the studio responsible for the first two games – now owned by EA, and internal development slowing down at LucasArts, a new hope must arise. Our best guess at the moment is the rebel forces at Rebellion, the UK-based studio responsible for the generally well received Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron on PSP.

I had no idea the Battlefront games were the best-selling series based off the Star Wars franchise. Then again, Battlefront 1 and 2 were on just about every platform imaginable, and I guess games like Rebel Assault and Yoda Stories were actually kind of terrible.
But the fact that it sold better than the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight franchise kinda surprises me!

Lets not forget Knights of the Old Republic.

I loved SWBF1, couldnt play BF2 although I own it. Hopefully 3 doesnt have those completely disbalanced jedi like in 2, where they obliterated every other class w/o effort.

Lag Fest 3 now with more "LAZER" sound effects

Fuck lucas arts not developing games for pc.
Ihavepants @ Jul 8th 2008 8:09PM
This is a posting by AMAZON, however retarded Lucas Arts is being with Force Unleashed, I severely doubt that they would be stupid enough to put Battlefront on the DS and not the PC.
Vanillacide @ Jul 8th 2008 8:36PM
Damn right, this sucks/blows. First no PC version of 'Star Wars: The Force Unleashed' and now this too.
Please don't forget your heritage LucasArts, not everyone with a PC is a pirate.
giantenemycrab @ Jul 8th 2008 7:54PM
HOLY MOLY YES!!!
*faints*
mundox @ Jul 8th 2008 7:54PM
Wait what no PC listed? if that game is not released on pc i shall personally go to wherever lucas arts is placed at and burn down their building!
Hochler @ Jul 8th 2008 7:55PM
Hasn't the general consensus been Free Radical seeing as they're a shooter developer and have had a "secret" LucasArts game in the pipeline for a while?
Anticrawl @ Jul 8th 2008 8:05PM
My friend Sara just had a nerdgasm upon hearing this news, good times indeed.

Korova *of the highlands* @ Jul 8th 2008 11:32PM

That game kicked ass!
zombienutz @ Jul 8th 2008 9:09PM
I am looking forward to it. My friends and I always loved doing local multiplayer/lan games with BF2.
Misfit Toy @ Jul 8th 2008 10:02PM

Fox318 @ Jul 8th 2008 10:38PM
Why on earth would they not release it on the PC!!!
Games like that have a huge following on the PC.
albinogoldfish @ Jul 8th 2008 11:18PM
why do I have a inking feeling in my gut that they could very easily fark this up? I had more fun with the 1st one than the 2nd, anyone else feel the same?
xGeneral DEATHx @ Jul 9th 2008 8:29AM
Seconded. I loved SWBF, but SWBFII went wild with too much going on and, of course, the overpowered Jedi that waded through troops like a hot knife through butter. Take the Jedi out, keep things simple, have dedicated servers on the PS3 side that work, and I'll probably get it on day one.
N1CK @ Jul 9th 2008 12:27AM
i can't wait for this one. I still don't understand why the people who don't even like this game are even commenting? .... Sigh....
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Jul 9th 2008 12:59AM
About fucking time.
tim @ Jul 9th 2008 11:09AM
Might wanna update your story, the listings have been removed.

It's been known for a year and a half that Free Radical Games is making SWBF3, whoever posted this news apparently does no homework. It IS still being called a "top secret LucasArts project", but FR only makes fps's. I have been eagerly awaiting the 3rd installment for a couple of years now, I sure hope they do it right.
