1942: Joint Strike set to deploy 7/23 to XBLA, 7/24 to PSN

The game is yet another HD remake for Capcom, after giving similar treatment to Super Puzzle Fighter II and Super Super Street Fighter II. Developer Backbone Entertainment went the extra mile, however, in creating new backdrops, levels and enemies. The game features a new score by frequent Metal Gear Solid contributor Norihiko Hibino. What hasn't changed? It's still a shoot-em-up, so for better or worse, you know exactly what to expect.

Does it have online multiplayer? This is the kind of game that I could kill countless hours on with my friends while using voice chat.
Jonah Falcon @ Jul 9th 2008 9:44AM
Yes. The entire point of the game is the co-op joint attacks.

Yea, looks like two players in the gallery. Up to four people though would be nice, not sure if thats possible.
Jonah Falcon @ Jul 9th 2008 10:01AM
Read the preview. It specifically talks about online co-op.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread) @ Jul 9th 2008 4:31PM
damn it was already a strong possibility for me but online co-op would seal the deal for me.
FOXHOUND @ Jul 9th 2008 9:42AM
1942? Consider it purchased.
Having Norihiko Hibino on the soundtrack is simply bonus. :d
Moffka @ Jul 9th 2008 9:51AM
Hey foxhound, what is your PSN ID? Mine is Moffka, hur. lol.
FOXHOUND @ Jul 9th 2008 10:24AM
Unfortunately, "FOXHOUND" was taken.
So I went with my alternate SN; "makioholic". If you've got MGS4/MGO, I'm "frozenpython" on there.
xFenixKnightx @ Jul 9th 2008 10:33AM
You know that you could have added something to your PSN ID so you could still have FOXHOUND. Like _FOXHOUND_ or xFOXHOUNDx, even F0XH0UND with zeros or maybe you just didn't like how that looked? Just sayin, either way it sucks that PSN doesn't have good avatars. Especially MG or MGS4 related ones like your current josytiq pic. Love that one btw.
xGeneral DEATHx @ Jul 9th 2008 11:16AM
I'm going to add you to my PSN list if that's all right with you, Foxhound...most of my friends that live close by still don't have a PS3, so my PSN list is too short. :-(
xGeneral DEATHx @ Jul 9th 2008 11:17AM
Oh, and my tag on PSN is Deeth82, in case you're wondering who the random request came from.
FOXHOUND @ Jul 9th 2008 1:16PM
Fenix---
I didn't think about it at the time... but if the chance arises to change screen name(without having to repurchase DLed content); I'll try those suggested ones. :]
GeneralDeath---
I'm not too worried on who sends invites or whatever on PSN/XBL/WiiCode, since it usually isn't difficult to remove them from listing. I'm at work right now, but I'll add everyone when I get home. I'm usually on MGS4/MGO(obviously), COD4, PUZZLE FIGHTER, or even SINGSTAR(for parties on the weekend). :]
xFenixKnightx @ Jul 9th 2008 9:47AM
That looks awesome! If it has online co-op, DO WANT!
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread) @ Jul 9th 2008 4:34PM
ill have what he's having.
Jakka @ Jul 9th 2008 9:52AM
I guess they're going to spend the extra day trying to come up with Trophy ideas.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jul 9th 2008 10:43AM
Or it could be that the 24th is a thursday, therefore being the only day of the week that Sony updates the PSN.
Vcize @ Jul 9th 2008 10:56AM
Indeed, such is life when the whole network can only receive updates 1 day a week. I'm still not sure why they do that.
j.howlett @ Jul 9th 2008 12:21PM
things have gone up early on psn its just rare. my guess is they just have a procedure they want to follow.
Rex Dart @ Jul 9th 2008 9:58AM
Super Super Street Fighter 2? Never heard of it.
J @ Jul 9th 2008 10:36AM
that's because it's on Double Super Secret probation...
animeman_59 @ Jul 9th 2008 7:09PM
SOLD!
Markez (MKWii 4339-2878-5120) @ Jul 9th 2008 10:31AM
Looks pretty, but makes me wonder how many 'new' people who weren't into the classic old shooters actually play these nowadays.
noBot @ Jul 9th 2008 10:44AM
Online play? So us PS3 users wait the extra day but get online play for free? xbox 2 users need to pay for Arcade online play? No Silver access?
Vcize @ Jul 9th 2008 10:59AM
And have a good time getting your friend in there by calling him on the phone (if you even know him in real life) or exchanging a series of slow text messages through a convoluted menu system rather than just pressing one button and being done with it.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jul 9th 2008 11:22AM
Again, the extra day is not a delay. Sony only updates their store once a week so anything that comes out for both systems has to wait until Thursday for PSN. This isn't another delaystation 3 problem.
truBlue @ Jul 9th 2008 1:01PM
Yeah you gotta pay for online play on the xbox 2. Includes arcade titles. Little known fact that all xbox 2 fanboys cover up or just ignore. But anyone with both systems, people would still pay for the xbox version because it warrants they're annual online fee.
Kola @ Jul 9th 2008 11:17AM
Think i'm going to wait on this one. i felt really ripped of with that commando bullshit.
Sloar @ Jul 9th 2008 11:27AM
Wow, how much do you think Microsoft paid for this timed exclusive?!
Bucket @ Jul 9th 2008 11:54AM
It looks like Battleship.
Morning Toast @ Jul 9th 2008 11:56AM
A game well worthy of a remake, and it looks great! 1942 was one of the first video games I remember playing for hours and hours.
Xoviet chiK @ Jul 9th 2008 11:56AM
Happy Birthday to me, July 24th FTW!
Have been anticipating this one, now that all their retro updates are dated or out hopefully Bionic Commando Rearmed will rear it's head real soon. Was supposed to be the first out the gate...
Poddie @ Jul 9th 2008 2:04PM
Instant buy for me, unless what I read is true and there is no auto-fire. That would totally suck to have to keep jamming the button.
