Zero Punctuation whips it good with Lego Indy
Zero Punctuation's Yahtzee takes on both the Lego Indiana Jones game and the latest movie in his latest review. For his take on the game, the ornery critic comes up with an equation for figuring out how much you'll enjoy playing as Indy in the blockified platformer.
If doing mathematicals isn't your thing, just think about how much fun you'll have killing Short Round -- or Willie -- over and over again. Although it still doesn't beat the cathartic Jar-Jar killing of the Lego Star Wars game.

One of the funniest ones he's done.
chispito @ Jul 9th 2008 6:47PM
I found it aimless and unfunny. I didn't even finish it. His one trick pony just doesn't cut it anymore.
Sora267 @ Jul 9th 2008 8:22PM
And what exactly is his "one trick"?
Haggard @ Jul 10th 2008 11:04AM
Yeah, I felt that although he's gone with his own intro music and sequence now, this one was a lot better than usual.
Obie @ Jul 9th 2008 6:09PM
Comparing the holocaust to a "really screamy pie factory"....damn Yahtzee is back! lol
Mr.ESC @ Jul 9th 2008 6:11PM
What's with the new intro? o-0?
Playmobil Battlestar Galactica and Meccano Dune I would totally play those.
ogvor @ Jul 9th 2008 6:13PM
He said in the credits he doesn't want to keep using copyrighted music, though I always thought their was something called "Fair Use" that protected the usage of very small clips of songs.
Also, it was very funny this week.
Mr.ESC @ Jul 9th 2008 6:18PM
Yeah but the new intro isn't very favorable either.
I would also like to add that I agree with him when he says there are only 3 Indiana Jones movies.
Every copy of the Crystal Skull deserves to be burned in a volcano and deleted of the memories of every human being so we can ignore is existance forever.
Robert @ Jul 9th 2008 6:19PM
I've actually always thought using copyrighted music for his stuff was probably not "fair use." He probably heard that it was questionable and mentioned it in the credits to try to cover his ass.
RabbidMickeyMouse @ Jul 9th 2008 6:39PM
Yeah, I'm going to miss that if he keeps this new one up. The songs gave each video somewhat of a theme, or had some relation to what he was reviewing, and it's those small touches that makes things like this better.
A bit of a random thought, but I remember it was about a week later after his Halo 3 video that I had realized the line "You say goodbye, while I say hello" from the Beatles song made sense.
Noah @ Jul 9th 2008 7:38PM
Here's a question: Would you rather watch KotCS or the Star Wars Holiday Special?
I'd go for the latter :P
Rabidkeebler @ Jul 9th 2008 10:19PM
As I remember, you can only use up to 5 seconds of copyrighted material (music, movies, tv etc.), but I also think there is a rule if you some how make money from the use.
Donald @ Jul 9th 2008 11:07PM
Thank you RabbidMickeyMouse, I never really thought about it but that's really cool how he added that to the Halo 3 review. Plus it applies to me as well.
+1 to you.
Korova *of the highlands* @ Jul 9th 2008 6:14PM
In before 30 obligatory Yatzhee is funny and not funny comments.
Can we talk about the review?
I didnt play the game.
Mr.ESC @ Jul 9th 2008 6:19PM
"Can we talk about the review?
I didnt play the game".
Ha ha lol.
Me neither,I played the demo and I thought it was cute but I didn't wanted to buy it.
Sean @ Jul 9th 2008 7:05PM
I did, and beat it. It was ok.. not as good as lego star wars.
I think it's because with lego star wars you could either have a light saber and deflect all blaster-fire, or have a blaster and quickly shoot everyone.
In Indy you have a whip, or basically a shovel. Only in freeplay can you use a character with a gun. You can whip a gun out of an enemy's hand, but it's only good for like 5 shots, and more often than not, the whip won't do what you want it to do. Press A to perform random action!
F1 @ Jul 9th 2008 6:19PM
I agree with Yahtzee. I hated those floating platforms in Mario Sunshine!
mr mobius @ Jul 9th 2008 7:51PM
They were the purest form of platforming in that game.
Sure they were infuriatingly hard after being nudged along helpfully by FLUDD for the rest of the game, but it made finishing them such a sense of achievement.
A pre-cursor to Galaxy I'd say except Galaxy toned them down because a game filled with just them would have been nightmarishly difficult.
Shadow El @ Jul 9th 2008 8:06PM
Toy Time Galaxy was essentially the Galaxy equivalent to those.
Robert @ Jul 9th 2008 6:21PM
Oh, and the "space between spaces" was such BS. As was the Tarzan scene.
Mr.ESC @ Jul 9th 2008 6:34PM
Everything went to the s*it at the very beginning.
Surviving a nuclear explosion in a damn fridge 0-O? what the f*ck? And then the whole Mayas in Peru that was probably the most stupid thing I have ever seen in a movie but that was quickly beaten when they showed up the aliens. I know both George Lucas and Steven Spielberg have boners for Aliens but dude what the hell, who wrote the script?
Read a motherf*cking book the next time.
Vault @ Jul 9th 2008 7:42PM
I love how you conveniently marked that post with an utterly effortless SPOILER sign above it so people like me who haven't watched the movie haven't had it spoiled for them. Good job!
mr mobius @ Jul 9th 2008 7:48PM
He saved you some money. Be happy. It'll be out on tv in 3 or 4 Christmas' time for free. You can wait. Trust me. The aliens are the hugest 'what?' moment in any film I've seen recently. Even moreso than the island vanishing in Lost. That says a lot.
Robert @ Jul 9th 2008 7:50PM
If you haven't seen it by now, you really can't compain about spoilers. And seriously, it's better if you know it all going in. Otherwise you'll just be disappointed.
AwesomeTown @ Jul 10th 2008 7:45AM
@Mr. Mobius.
The island in Lost makes sense when you think about it. It just skipped about a year and moved into the future. Considering everything else on Lost, that's nothing.
Now, aliens in Indiana Jones, yea, that makes no sense.
tc @ Jul 9th 2008 6:22PM
EA to buy all stickle-brick related rights.
Snowblind @ Jul 9th 2008 6:28PM
I loved Lego Indy, very fun game to play, especially on co-op. A lot of the complaints he makes are pretty valid, and some of them amusing, but he exagerates on most of them a little too much.
And the void levels in Mario Sunshine were the best parts of that game, the whole thing should have been like that, not that stupid flood crap!
Vidikron (FU) @ Jul 9th 2008 10:03PM
Lack of online co-op killed the game for me though.
mykie @ Jul 9th 2008 6:30PM
I dunno if I can really get behind using generic music for the bumpers...
Yahtzee is single-handedly responsible for introducing me to Electric Six, and therefore my purchasing all four of their albums.
Mr.ESC @ Jul 9th 2008 6:42PM
Yes he actually use pretty cool music in his videos that otherwise I would've ignore.
Lijik @ Jul 9th 2008 7:23PM
When people wanted new music but were unsure of their tastes, I used to always recommend they watch some of Yahtzee's videos and they'd probably hear something that they'd like.
Bit of a shame I can't do that anymore.
ronald.raygun @ Jul 9th 2008 8:08PM
have you watched any electric six's videos? funny stuff. especially the freddy mercury one.
anyway really enjoyed this one after the last four or five not being funny to me.
Shadow El @ Jul 9th 2008 7:59PM
I think the song for his intro should become "Sell Out" by Reel Big Fish.
That's all that kept going through MY head when I saw the intro.
Shadow El @ Jul 9th 2008 8:06PM
Also, I liked KotCS.
*prepares to see half a heart under his comment tomorrow*
mykie @ Jul 9th 2008 9:06PM
Hell yes I've seen Electric Six's videos. They have a nice little assortment on myspace.
Shadow Hog @ Jul 9th 2008 11:30PM
I seem to be the only one that actually liked Indy 4. Either that or the people who liked it are sitting quiet while the people who hate it with every fiber of their being are busy pushing around everyone who don't.
Yes, it had its narmy moments. Yes, the pacing wasn't quite as good. But you know what? It was a good movie. Great? Hell no, that term's for the first three; and it's true, this wasn't as good as those. But I sure as hell enjoyed it, and so did everyone else in my family and everyone I've talked to.
That being said, going in aware of the aforementioned spoilers helped dissipate the disappointment a damn lot, so that might have something to do with it. Knowing how it ended made it a lot easier to ignore its flaws.
Gregorius @ Jul 10th 2008 12:22AM
I really liked Indy 4 too. Sure there were a couple of corny moments, but the other movies had them too. Anyone remember jumping out of a plane with only a raft? I also don't get why people are complaining about aliens. What about face melting, magic stones, and a cup that holds everlasting life? Are aliens that far fetched?
I think the biggest problem with everyone is that the first three are so burned into our brains. Most of the people on this board grew up watching them. So we expected the perfect movie. I got what I wanted out of it. Another Indiana Jones movie. Hell, I hope they make another.
t_m @ Jul 10th 2008 10:43AM
I had a good time at Indy4. I wouldn't say it was as good as any of the first 3, but I enjoyed it nontheless. It was definitely a lot better than any of the star wars prequels.
I just thought the ending was lackluster. From the moment they went through the waterfall not much happened. It just went into CGi mode and Indy was hardly involved at all. It needed a big ending fight scene or something.
Levi @ Jul 10th 2008 4:13AM
Zero Punctuation has officially jumped the shark...
Hopefully I'm not the only one who reads his final sarcastic in joke at the end of every video.
EKAJ13 @ Jul 10th 2008 4:58AM
I liked the copyrighted music better. It definitely added to the videos. Not using copyrighted music would be okay as well... but this new intro just sounds like generic 'cool' hard rock music. It doesn't have that funny/sarcastic undertone either.
Wiinterfang @ Jul 10th 2008 8:31AM
I actually laugh at this one, instead of the usual chuckle.
FoxHoundADAM @ Jul 10th 2008 9:26AM
3 minutes of hate and his conclusion..."I like this game"
classic.
t_m @ Jul 10th 2008 10:54AM
I do miss the music though. He always used to choose cool tunes that fitted well to the subject... I actually used to look forward to seeing what tunes each video would have.
i shall miss the tunes...
