Astonishia Story 2 headed for Japan as Garnet Chronicle

A name change is just what Astonishia Story 2 needs for its journey from South Korea to Japan; at least in the opinion of its Japanese publisher, Sega. A Weekly Famitsu scan shows the game will debut in Japan this fall as Garnet Chronicle and highlights the game's main characters, story, the battle system and the Japanese version's seiyuu. We've made available the Korean version's demo before so feel free to try it out. The game will arrive in Japan on October 23rd. Take a look at the scan here.

Perhaps "Astonishia" accidently translated to a bad word in Japanese? ;)

It is because the first Astonishia Story sucked horribly. Astonishia Story 2/Garnet Chronicle (which actually looks to be an awesome game so far) would not want to be associated with the original Astonishia Story (the crappiest JRPG ever). Therefore "Astonishia" is a bad word to anyone who has ever played the original Astonishia Story. Does this make sense now?

It doesn`t. I`d say they`re probably trying to sever connections with the original Astonishia - it was awful, is well known for being awful, and I don`t think most psp owners would be willing to dish out the cash for a sequel.

I would seriously dish out cash for this sequel though. *drools*

But yes, any connections with Astonishia Story would kill this game. So severing connections with it is a very smart move.

It sucks that over half of the news for the PSP here is about games that will most likely never make it out of Japan. C'mon devs, we need some games that are worth a damn here in the US!

I really enjoyed playing the Korean demo, I hope it makes its way to North America! : (

Well the first Astonishia made it to the west right? Unfortunately, it sucked... bigtime. This sequel looks way superior in every imaginable way, tho... so let's hope for an american release. I crave for some traditional, turn-based JRPG goodness!! (I know the game's korean, but the genre is JRPG :P )

I haven't played the original but heard it was mediocre at best.

It looks nothing at all like the sequel, thats a good thing I suppose.

The battle screens look a LOT like Valkyrie Profile Lenneth. This is potentially a good thing.
