Microsoft bringing home Too Human demo next week
70
We can go ahead and cross off one square from our press conference bingo. Microsoft has announced that, as part of their annual "Bringing it Home" series, the Too Human demo is coming to Xbox Live next week during E3 (via IGN). No word yet one what else will be available, but expect a usual flock of videos, themes, gamerpics and other random surprises. So how does Dyack's epic stack up to the hype? Find out yourself next week.

Very nice... a demo is a must for a game that has been in development for 9 years.

It's supposedly kind of a Diablo style RPG. That's why I've recently started to get kind of excited about it.

I was watching all the new vids on IGN and I must my interest in this title has gone way up. Before I was kinda meh about it when it seemed to be treading into "vaporware" status.
But now that there's concrete evidence showing how the game will work, etc I'm very excited for the demo.
My only concern is the graphics. Hopefully with all this supposedly good gameplay and story SK has created a beautiful breath taking world/atmosphere for us to play in.

My only concern is that a lot of previewers have stressed that the game really starts to shine at later levels, when you have a lot more gear and a lot more combat options available. I hope the demo shows that off, and doesn't just stick you at the beginning of the game. That part, from most accounts, is not that great.

It seems like I'm one of the few people looking forward to this game. Microsoft/Silicon Knights must have realized that a demo will (hopefully) silence a lot of the nay-saying.

I'm right there with you John. I just squealed (literally) when I read the header for this post.
Too Human has been my most anticipated game since Assassin's Creed. I hunger for good RPG's. I loved Lost Odyssey, Oblivion, even Mass Effect for its RPG elements.
This one just takes the bag. It's like what Two Worlds could have been if they hadn't botched the entire thing, plus guns!

I just like the ps3 controller better overall. Ah well. My main reasons for goin g towards PS3 more is beecuase game like Banjo and Viva Pinata are dumb as sh*t. Doesn't mean i plan o nselling the 360 (hell if i'm not playing Gears of War 2 and Fable II on day one).

OK, our ten year national nightmare is about to end.
First, he blamed his development platform for not being able to complete Too Human.
Then, he blamed shoddy developers for being unable to meet their schedule.
Then, he blamed the buggy, unusable Unreal Engine. The one that is only capable of producing crappy games like Bioshock and Gears of War. Then, he filed a lawsuit against Epic so that we would all know he was sooper serious.
Then, he blamed bad previews of his game on the fact that people were using a near-final build of the code that he distributed, and which is nothing like the final build of the code.
Then, he went on the 1UP podcast, and was allowed to rant for an hour about how criticism of his game does not reflect poorly on his game, but rather on the dissolution of human civilization. And it was incumbent upon him, in a messianic role, to reverse the role of technology in ending all meaningful human communication.
People.
When Too Human is finally released next month, and it bombs, can we please reach a consensus that Dennis Dyack is not a meaningful figure in the videogame industry?

Unfortunately I'm kinda hoping he's right and that the game meets the lofty expectations it has.
As long as it doesn't end up like H4.5ZE

Agreed on Dyack's boo-hooing.
Disagreed on the greatness of Eternal Darkness. It was original, epic, and definitely one of the best GameCube titles out there.

A.) Too Human was originally developed for the Playstation, then it was moved to the Nintendo platform, and finally to the Xbox. The game had to be re-created three times for compleatly different platforms. This is a monumental task
B.) What developers are you refering to?
C.) The reason Dyack is not using the Unreal engine may be because (I am only assuming) of how if functions with the Xbox 360. A major focus of Too Human is the loot that can be obtained in the game. I don't think the Unreal engine, running on the 360 can fully support this feature in a multiplayer enviornment. The reason I say this is because, in the 360 version of UT3, players are unable to create custom characters by combining pre-made parts. Instead they must select from ore-generated characters. I believe this is due to some kind of limitation caused by how the UT engine runs on the 360. If this is the case, it may be why the engine was dropped.
D.) Dyack was saying that most of the previews of his game were not actually previews but mini-reviews. Previews are supposed to be an un-biased look at a game and he was upset that this was not the case. This point is also based on point E,2 below. Also, FYI a game is not done until it is shipped. Test builds do not necessarily reflect final builds.
E.) In the 1up podcast Dyack was trying to make three key points:
1.) How a Metacritic score does may not accurately reflect how "good" a game really is, and people should stop relying on those scores as an ultimate judgment of a game.
2.) How internet forums filled with uninformed or poorly informed people have an effect on how legitimate gaming news outlets report news.
3.) How there is a shocking lack of accountability on the internet. He uses an example from Kotaku in which a moderator publicly exposed the identity of a user (I forget his name, the dude that sent a PM saying "...and you contribution to society is what?"), which is somehow a breach of forum conduct, and the moderator is was not held accountable. He also goes on to talk about how other moderators (mostly from Kotaku) abuse their power and are not reprimanded. He is basically pointing out the hypocrisy in the fact that the people who are supposed to be keeping the forum civilized are helping to ad to the fire.
This post was not intended to defend the game Too Human but to defend Denis Dyack.

I know this ain't an Eternal Darkness thread but...
I FINALLY decided to pick it up and give it a shot and am more than halfway through and I gotta say...not only is it one of the best Gamecube titles, it's becoming one of my favorites. It's quite impressive on a number of levels. For what it's worth.

Great. My just received my second RRoD in a year just in time for this demo to be released.
Thanks, Microsuck.
Guess I'll go back to playing FFVIII on the PS3.

I had my 5th RRoD about 2 weeks before Mass Effect came out last year, which at the time was my most wanted game of the year.
But with some miracle, I got my "new" 360 back 3 days before it came out. I still wonder how Microsoft pulled that off.

I don't know if we'll reach consensus that Denis isn't meaningful in the industry.
But I think we can all agree that he is one crazy MoFo. His 1Up rant was like listening to Stephen Hawkings explain how black holes work.
Anybody else notice how this game is one of the few high profile releases that has not gotten a Limited or Collector's edition. Seems kind of odd...
