im suprised microsoft hasnt come out yet with an official announcement seeing these prices are in effect this sunday
Tiptup300 @ Jul 10th 2008 11:41AM
But microsoft doesn't comment on rumor and speculation.
dark_inchworm @ Jul 10th 2008 11:17AM
What we need is a price drop on the hard drives. I can get a 500 GB hard drive for my PC cheaper than I can buy the 120 GB hard drive for the 360. *That* is one of the few things I do not like about the 360 strategy.
Rob Accomando @ Jul 10th 2008 11:28AM
I've been complaining about the same thing too.
It must cost them 10 cents to make the 20GB Hdd. Why don't they give those away FREE to existing Core owners and drop the 120GB Hdd to $50-$75.
I know it would never happen, but it's nice to dream
ChooChooCharlie @ Jul 10th 2008 11:57AM
Agreed. I refuse to buy one until they become cheaper. And this is coming from a guy who shelled out $100 for a damn Wi-fi adapter.
Korova *of the highlands* @ Jul 10th 2008 12:08PM
I'd buy the 120 geeber for $75. I just rented an HD movie from XBLM for the first time (10,000 BC, fairly good) and it took up all of the available space on my puny 20 gb drive. (HD is beautiful, much better than upconvert BTW).
I needs moar spaiss. So I can buy more stuff from Miscrosoft! Why wouldnt they subsidize the HDs? I dont get it.
h0mi @ Jul 10th 2008 12:31PM
You're comparing a 3.5" drive with 2.5" drives. 2.5" drives, sata or not, are always much more expensive, and the largest 2.5" sata drive available now is in the 300-320 gb range.
At $150, the price is better but still expensive. You can get retail drives that are larger at that price point.
Ben @ Jul 10th 2008 12:46PM
Look up something called hddhacker... Basically, you can buy a 120GB Western Digital Scorpio WD1200BEVS model laptop drive (SATA/2.5") from any where ($65 on Newegg.com, free shipping) and mod it to work on a 360. Of course it's a little more in depth than that, but other than the drive, all you need is an official 360 drive bay with or without a working Xbox 360 hard drive, of which you can find broken ones on ebay for about $9.99 + $6-10 for shipping. You're looking at $85 for a 120GB HDD for your 360 (assuming you know how to do all that is needed). Best of all, it doesn't void the warranty as you're not actually opening the 360 itself, so MS will never know.
dark_inchworm @ Jul 10th 2008 2:06PM
h0mi, you make a valid point (3.5 versus 2.5) that I failed to take into consideration, and I commend you for that. However, regardless of how much more expensive 2.5" drives are, you can still find both internal and external 120+ GB hard drives for much cheaper than the $180 Xbox 360 hard drive. Using an unofficial hard drive is not outside the realm of possibility, but for me that would feel so... awkward, for reasons I can't explain.
It's quite depressing.
jake18oly @ Jul 10th 2008 11:20AM
It looks like the price drop is really happening. If I didn't already have a 360 and was picking one up for the first time I would definitely take advantage of that deal at Target.
Ninjakamster (PS360 FTW!) @ Jul 10th 2008 11:21AM
I'm upset the 60gb SKU is to come out this month but the 60gb drive supposedly not for a few months, I'd like to buy it now for my ghetto Arcade, finally be able to download demos!! : (
Since the 20gb HDD is being discontinued, I wonder what its price will be?
God, $100 MSRP for that and the WiFi adaptor is RIDICULOUS, you cannot call Sony evil without doing the same for MS!
ThePerfectCompanion @ Jul 10th 2008 11:26AM
What are you talking about? If you don't like the prices then don't buy it....
Stick to your overpriced ps3 sony fanboy.
Ninjakamster (PS360 FTW!) @ Jul 10th 2008 11:37AM
Hey, is that you PremierAsshole? : )
My PS3's Blu-Ray drive actually broke from GTA4 (others having that problem as well), so I sadly got rid of it and have a 360 actually. And ironically, its been working perfectly fine whereas I'm hearing more issues with the PS3.
I would like to buy a PS3 again but will wait it out a bit.
Good to see you back, I missed you.
Ninjakamster (PS360 FTW!) @ Jul 10th 2008 11:39AM
I guess as the wonderful 360 fanboy you are instead of a PS3 one, you don't mind paying the exorbitant prices for some of the 360 accessories? I'm certainly not being MSRP. : )
Hyams @ Jul 10th 2008 11:47AM
Compared to ThePerfectCompanion, EVERYONE'S a Sony fanboy, up to and including Bill Gates.
Ninjakamster (PS360 FTW!) @ Jul 10th 2008 11:51AM
Exactly, you even say a shred of negativity towards the 360 or Microsoft, this little boy can only retort by calling you a "Sony Fanboy".
Hey, is it okay if I'm a Microsoft AND Sony fanboy though?
h0mi @ Jul 10th 2008 12:36PM
The problem with the Wifi adapter is that it's an 802.11 a/b/g adapter. These adapters are always expensive, and at $100, that really is not an unreasonable price for that kind of adapter. The problem is, who the hell uses 802.11a? That's (mostly) why it's so expensive. Ideally, MS would allow us to use any USB wifi adapter (or at least any with a given chipset). If I want 11n or 11a, I should be able to pick, and its a shame MS doesn't do this.
ThePerfectCompanion @ Jul 10th 2008 2:38PM
Actually I've said plenty of critical things regarding MS and several titles on the 360 in the past.
However despite its faults and mistakes MS doesn't hold a candle when it's compared to the hot mess that is sony and sony fanboys....
sony will always be worse than MS because they're copiers...not innovators.
They're the ones who hype titles that don't deserve the hype and end up crashing and burning.
sony is the company full of arrogant asshole execs and fanboys.
ThePerfectCompanion @ Jul 10th 2008 11:24AM
Wait the 360 is getting a price drop!?
COOL! I'll buy another one for my lil brother then!
NATO_Duke @ Jul 10th 2008 12:05PM
I heard something about a price drop, can't remember where though. hmmmmmm
Tim The Enchanter @ Jul 10th 2008 2:29PM
Price drop? Where?

juju187 @ Jul 10th 2008 11:49AM
all the pictures show it with a HDD intresting...
Ninjakamster (PS360 FTW!) @ Jul 10th 2008 11:52AM
Thats because this is the 20gb Premium SKU thats dropping to $299 am I correct?
Korova *of the highlands* @ Jul 10th 2008 12:14PM
DENY THAT, MOTHERFUCKER!
Ben @ Jul 10th 2008 12:51PM
What about the $279.99 "Arcade" SKU, who in their right mind would buy that one if there's a much better deal for only $20 more (seriously, you get a HDD instead of the stupid memory card for only $20, plus a headset, an HDMI cable, and an ethernet cable). I've been waiting for a drop to $250 before I got one, guess I'm just going to have to settle for $300.
Aaron @ Jul 10th 2008 1:59PM
And I'm still not getting one. Add $100.00 for WiFi plus another $180 for the 120GB hard disk and another $50.00 for XBL. You're already at $630. Tell me how the PS3 is so uber expensive now?
juju187 @ Jul 10th 2008 3:37PM
yea with all the games ive been buying ya its such a money pit
Tim The Enchanter @ Jul 10th 2008 2:30PM
I think the 360 is due for a price drop.
Giroro @ Jul 11th 2008 2:09AM
I guess the real question is how the price drop will affect the Arcade/Elite SKU's
