505 Games sinks its teeth into new DS Buffy game
Like a vampire that refuses to stay dusted, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer franchise continues to chug on after the TV show's 2003 cancellation. New comics, toys and even a magazine have kept the cult favorite series alive long than the First Evil. The undead march continues with 505 Games' announcement today of Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Sacrifice for the DS.
The "action-packed 3D survival horror game," as the press release describe it, will follow everyone's favorite slayer and the usual gang as they try to re-close the re-opened Hellmouth sometime after the events of the seventh season. Development will be handled by Romanian developer Beast and the story will be penned by Buffy TV scribe Rob Deshotel.
Sacrifice doesn't have much of a gaming pedigree to live up to -- the two THQ-published Game Boy Advance Buffy games scored 39% and 50%, respectively, in the GameRankings averages. With review scores like that, maybe this is a gaming franchise that should learn when to stay dead.

9 years off, she is 31
tmacairjordan87 @ Jul 11th 2008 10:39PM
She was way hotter when the show first started
t_m @ Jul 12th 2008 6:14AM
She was kind of chubby and had a lot of baby fat when the show first started.
Either way, Faith was always WAY hotter!
McWeen @ Jul 11th 2008 12:51PM
Won't this story not make sense considering the series is currently continuing in comic form?
Guy Number One @ Jul 11th 2008 12:54PM
From the sound of things, these seems like it's going to be in the less-good seasons. (Season 1-3, Bah).
I want an Angel game. Or an Angel RPG! Or an Angel action RPG. Or just an Angel anything, god that'd be great.
Lewis (GT: StoneRevolver) @ Jul 11th 2008 2:59PM
Finally, another Angel fan :O
McWeen @ Jul 11th 2008 7:40PM
I would buy that.
DiddlyKong @ Jul 11th 2008 1:00PM
I just bought the tv series collection on Amazon.

What has she been in recently? Anything?

My pants.

IMDB states she's got 4 movies coming up, all due out in 2009, including "Alice" (based on computer game "American McGee's Alice."), a movie which I've been anticipating for years now ever since it was announced back in 2000!
2008 Just wasn't her year, I guess. Last thing I saw her in were Grudge and Grudge 2, and she was the voice of April O'Neil in last year's TMNT.
Russell Dady @ Jul 11th 2008 1:34PM
Erm, Buffy wasn't cancelled - the creators of the show took a group decision not to continue it any further, as it had reached a natural end, so all the snarkiness about a zombie franchise is rather pointless.
Microswirl (MKWii:1676- 4270-3674) @ Jul 11th 2008 1:46PM
It was canceled after the 5th season, so they switched networks. They finished season 6 and were basically told by the new network they'd only be allowed 1 more season, so they wrote the 7th season with this in mind, wrapping everything up.
Russell Dady @ Jul 11th 2008 3:35PM
No, that's not what happened at all. I don't know what stories you've heard, but UPN effectively bought Buffy after the fifth season. It was never cancelled; they were offered MORE money to switch networks, and then decided to take it off air after the seventh season because they were basically done; Joss Whedon had other projects, SMG was tired of it, and the rest of those involved generally felt it had run it's course. Although the show never had stellar ratings in the US (it really did elsewhere, particularly the UK), it was never, ever, threatened with cancellation or given a deadline.
Angel, on the other hand, was outright cancelled, which was a shame, because they didn't get to wrap up all the storylines (Fred\Illria) satisfactorily (Angel\Spike shanshu).
BlackFreefall @ Jul 11th 2008 1:43PM
Is this the game where you use the stylus as a "stake" and stab the vampires with it?
MikeJett @ Jul 11th 2008 2:03PM
@Russell Dady: It was kinda canceled .... from what I recall Gellar wouldn't sign another contract because she was going off to be a big movie star so the creators of the show were at am empass where they could continue the show with Dawn as the heroin or do a spin off based on Eliza Dusku's character, Faith ..... so really they were put into a corner and they just couldn't go on without good ole' Buff ..... I mean they had already killed her twice (maybe three? I haven't watched in awhile) ..... so at the time it made since to allow the show to go quietly into the night .....
As for the comic book, Season 8 is still going I think so this could take place after the events of season 8 .... just a thought ... but what if they put all of season 8 on the DS game (in comic form for the gamer to catch up) .... that would be kind of cool .... As for the IP needing to stay dead- I just don't think anyone has done it right yet, and oh wise joystiq lords, you neglected to mention the Buffy games for xbox .... I think there were two .... but i know for sure there was at least one ....

More Willow, less everyone else!
Lewis (GT: StoneRevolver) @ Jul 11th 2008 3:01PM
The Buffy-verse is still alive. Season 8 comics are being made and so is Season six of Angel

This is retarded. Games based on tv shows suck enough, but games based on cancelled tv shows are even worse.
Why these people insist on doing this to my beloved DS. Put this crap on the PSP. We already have Petz. We don't deserve this too. :(
the_thriller @ Jul 11th 2008 4:27PM
For the record, Gellar was in two movies in 2008. The Air I Breathe, which looked not bad, and Southland Tales, from the director of Donnie Darko, which I enjoyed immensely.
Nietha @ Jul 11th 2008 8:44PM
The Air I Breathe was bad.
darryl @ Jul 11th 2008 4:32PM
Funny how the editor forgot to mention the 2 games WORTH picking up. Buffy on XBOX and Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds. *rolls eyes*. I guess coming up with a clever quip means more than doing actual research. Real professional there.
Kyle Orland @ Jul 11th 2008 5:57PM
Hey douchebag, I do know about those games, but neither of them are PORTABLE, so the awful GBA games seemed like the better comparison. Jerk.
Levi @ Jul 11th 2008 6:13PM
Jeez Kyle, you really should do something about that sand in your vagina.
t_m @ Jul 12th 2008 6:21AM
Wow.. way to prove his point with your response Kyle!
Hardly a professional way to respond to a comment... I think you're going to have to develop a thicker skin to work on the internet..
I don't really think Buffy is a good fit for portable games... but I really enjoyed the two console games. They had some incredibly frustratingly placed save points, leading to infuriating difficulty at times, but they did a good job capturing the feel of the show, the locations, the characters.. and mostly had a nice combat engine. I liked that you could use the environment against the enemies.
I want a Wii Buffy game with waggle-staking action.
(but I'd settle for a Wii Angel game...)
Cesaria (cesariatic.wordpress.com) @ Jul 11th 2008 5:39PM
This game should focus entirely on Anyanka and her determination to rid the world of bunnies. I would play that.
t_m @ Jul 12th 2008 6:26AM
Am I being crazy in remembering something like that in the xbox game?
I think I must have had too much coffee today...
Long Bow @ Jul 11th 2008 5:58PM
I must be the only one that skipped reading about the game and stared drooling at Willow. She looks farkin' HOT in that pic.
frank @ Jul 12th 2008 1:06AM
how about this dude gets his facts straight for one Buffy wasnt cancelled so much as upn begged for them to stay and sarah and co. left the show, and secondly, granted maybe the other gameboy advance games were kinda crappy but did anyone play the first Buffy xbox game? It kicked ass- especially for a Buffy fan. Maybe this game will do great and trigger more Buffyness to come. Heres hopin :)
