Far Cry 2 will not have a pre-release demo according to Clint Hocking, the game's creative director. Hocking explains to Eurogamer that given the open-world nature of the game, that even if they put walls around a certain section, there could still potentially be hours worth of game in that space -- defeating the whole point of a demo being a teaser.
Hocking went on to say that Far Cry 2's features are all locked and now "100 guys" are sitting around picking out the bugs. We should certainly get some hands-on time with the game next week at E3 and we'll report back what we find from our jaunt through the savanna.

If Crackdown and Saint's Row can pull off a demo, then Far Cry 2 can pull it off. By doing this they're pretty much screwing themselves out of the little PC sales they'd get because everyone's going to pirate this now like they did with Crysis to test it out and/or see how it is.

Actually I just remembered that Crysis had a demo and it was still pirated like crazy. However, by not doing a far cry 2 demo they're only making their PC situation even worse only this time they're going to have the likely strong sales from the 360 and ps3 to back it up this time.

Hmmm, I guess they forgot to place a "clock" into this engine, maybe they were afraid Konami would sue them, there was a timer in the first TMNT...

I wasn't impressed by the first..
so why would I even give this one a chance with no demo?

I played a demo of this at Wireless Festival in London last Friday.
Of course they can make a demo!

I had hours of fun in the Burnout Paradise demo - I was amazed at how big the small area was, and so much to do! It basically guilted me into buying the full game - and I'm happy I did.

I dont buy modern PC games like this without a demo. My video card is not top end so I have no guarantee that it will run well and I am not going to take a chance buying a game that may or may not be playable at acceptable detail levels.
They dont understand that PC demos are important not just for gameplay but they allow people to see if the game will RUN on their computer. System requirements have never meant anything other than if you can install it or not, they have no bearing on actual gameplay.

yougamers.com and the systemrequirementslab are both great places to check "real" system requirements and the such. It's what I use and they're usually dead-on.

There is no point in demos these days.. I'd rather they concentrated resources on making the game good.
