Rumor: Animal Crossing, Punch-Out!! Wii being revealed at E3
The latest issue of Euro mag NGamer has a rumor that both Animal Crossing Wii and Punch-Out!! Wii will be revealed at next week's E3. The mag states (via N-Europe) that Animal Crossing Wii has been done for a while and, although not an MMO, uses Wi-Fi sharing. Punch-Out!! Wii can allegedly use the Wii Fit Balance Board for dodging as an option, while the rest of the gameplay will be similar to Wii Sports boxing or Wii Fit's Rhythm Boxing.
Now, this all come from a magazine, which has a lead time, so even if the information is true, who knows if it's still accurate. Although Punch-Out!! Wii is a semi-surprise, let's be honest, Animal Crossing isn't a question of if ... but, when.

Question:
I never played an Animal Crossing title, what is it that makes this game so charming? I saw a friend being excited about it, and based on his quick summary of the game, I didn't get what he was so excited about....
Is it like Harvest Moon?
WIZEGUY @ Jul 11th 2008 10:52AM
Sort of Harvest Moon meets the Sims. With copious ammounts of Nintendo charm.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Jul 11th 2008 10:59AM
Sorta. Pretty much what you do is do chores for people and you get either money or stuff to put in the home you live in. On paper, it sounds like a stupid idea. but when you're playing it, it's incredibly addictive. One thing I like about the game is that since it follows a real time calander, different events will happen depending on what the actual day is.
NATO_Duke @ Jul 11th 2008 11:31AM
Yeah, its one of those games you have to accept for being damn cute and just have some lapse in your need for typical game elements.
Noshino @ Jul 11th 2008 11:42AM
ok, since you guys seem to know about that series, and Im new to it, is the DS one any good?
NATO_Duke @ Jul 11th 2008 12:06PM
Yeah, its a cool little game. We got it a while ago and it kept us busy. Get it.
343 Guilty Fart @ Jul 11th 2008 12:36PM
I got the DS version a year or so ago after hearing so much hype about it. I was unimpressed. I just felt it was boring. If there had been more activities besides picking apples and collecting seashells I might have had more fun, and if you know someone else who's got a copy and you can visit their town it could be more fun, but the game just comes down to earning more money so you can buy more stuff, repeat cycle. I'm already doing that with my real life, I don't need this game to do that. I finally sold the game off a month ago.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Jul 11th 2008 1:14PM
In all honesty, I absolutely hated the DS version.
Drew @ Jul 11th 2008 1:47PM
I don't know why Animal Crossing is so addicting. I liked the Gamecube version better than the DS version. I dunno what it was exactly that turned me off to the DS version but the Gamecube one was just so damn addicting! The DS version music sucked too.
Let me put it like this. The games I play are COD4, GTA4, Orange Box, you know games like that. But for some reason I still love Animal Crossing. I don't know why it's addicting but whenever it comes out it's my new crack.
TheOverlord#2 can has Animals Crossing? @ Jul 11th 2008 3:46PM
It was a really fun game and it was boring to me when I wasn't online, cause talking to friends and playing games was where the DS version's fun was at.(for me, at least)(though I did hack the life(literally) out of my copy of ACWW :D)
Dale @ Jul 11th 2008 5:43PM
"Nintendo charm" = horrible graphics and annoying features designed to encourage repeat plays and punish the user.
Jhongerkong @ Jul 11th 2008 11:25PM
The GC version has free nes games. One of them being a sequel to Clu Clu Land. Thats worth the price of admission alone.
xFenixKnightx @ Jul 11th 2008 10:37AM
Punch-out!! Wii?!!!
...
Interested I am.
colby @ Jul 11th 2008 10:39AM
"Punch-Out!! Wii can allegedly use the Wii Fit Balance Board for dodging as an option, while the rest of the gameplay will be similar to Wii Sports boxing"
Okay ... I think this is the straw that broke the camel's back.
I'm going to break down and buy a Wii. : P
Noshino @ Jul 11th 2008 10:45AM
why use WiiFit for that, when the Wiimote alone could do that?...
There is not much info about it, so maybe Nintendo is offering both option...maybe....
Kizzle @ Jul 11th 2008 10:55AM
...too bad Wii Sports Boxing sucked and that balance board gimmick has frustration written all over it.
A classic style Punch-Out!! game with better graphics is all I need. They'd get the characterization, gameplay, and overall appeal down just fine.
Not that I expect them to do that.
colby @ Jul 11th 2008 11:01AM
It's not so much about the board as the fact that there's a new Punch Out game. and if there's any type of game that should be served a Wiimote, it's a good boxing game (I'm lookin' at you, Wii Sports).
Dave & Buster's has that MoCap Boxing game from Konami that I absolutely love: http://www.primetimeamusements.com/arcadegame.php?id=33
The Balance Board seems to take it a step closer to mimicking that.
And while WiiFit may be a decent workout experience, that game was phenomenal. I played it from start to finish (probably 40 min. or so) and the next day my abs were killin' me : P.
colby @ Jul 11th 2008 11:03AM
@ kizzle
Yeah ... can you imagine: Wii capabilities + Fight Night Round 3 graphics, etc.?
I'd probably never leave the house.
deaftly @ Jul 11th 2008 10:47AM
Punch out for the Wii could be the first game that made me turn it on since galaxy came out.
xFenixKnightx @ Jul 11th 2008 11:13AM
Agreed, well...kinda cuz of Mario Kart and all. I'm also getting a light layer of dust on teh ole PS3. I haven't turned that sucker on in about 2 weeks now. But seriously I hope they dont ruin it and stay with the same feeling as the original Punchout.
vdeogmer @ Jul 11th 2008 2:02PM
shame on you for not buying boom blox.
deaftly @ Jul 11th 2008 12:48PM
forgot about mario kart, played that for about a wiik as well
Jhongerkong @ Jul 11th 2008 11:37PM
"Punch out for the Wii could be the first game that made me turn it on since galaxy came out"
Liar, I know you played Brawl
iag25 @ Jul 11th 2008 10:47AM
PUNCH OUT !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Reggie has heard our cries !
Kizzle @ Jul 11th 2008 10:51AM
I can't believe it has taken them this long to finally do Punch-Out!! again.
Now...give us a damned Pro Wrestling sequel already, and I'll buy a Wii again. Starman and Kin Korn Karn, where can you be?
Habiib @ Jul 11th 2008 10:51AM
If King Hippo is in it, I'm sold.
colby @ Jul 11th 2008 11:24AM
Ha!
I'll take The Amazon.
*sigh* Gawd, now I want to play it.
Adam @ Jul 11th 2008 10:59AM
I'll see your King Hippo and raise you Bald Bull, Mr. Sandman, and Super Machoman as well. Hell, let's just throw in Don Flamengo and Glass Joe for good measure as well.
Adam @ Jul 11th 2008 10:59AM
I don't want to get my hopes up because this mag could be full of sh*t, but oh how I would love to have another go round with punchout and the likes of Bald Bull, Mr. Sandman, and Super Machoman! Please let this be true. It makes so much sense for this paticular game to return on this paticular system so please happen!!!! PLEASE!!PLEASE!!PLEASE!!PLEASE!!
eyao @ Jul 11th 2008 11:12AM
I have been waiting for a punch out game since my SNES days so this is wonderful news (if true!). Wii sports didn't give me the same satisfaction as the original Punch Out did, so I'm hoping this will.
jaredgood1 @ Jul 11th 2008 11:19AM
I'm torn about Wii Punch Out. On one hand, all I want is the Mega Man 9 treatment for it. On the other, I really did like Konami's Mocap Boxing in the arcades.
K387 @ Jul 11th 2008 11:21AM
And this is how Nintendo keeps momentum. Just take an old school game that everyone wishes they would remake and wait until people are saying they are tired of the Wii and announce it. Instant love.
And that's probably their big announcement because what other boxing games are there on the Wii? Other than FN3 for X360, what other good boxing games are there? None. And Punch Out is beloved by the gaming community so instant love.
Nintendo has the formula down pact. Hell, all they have to do is announce one of their current franchises is going oldschool and people will love them.
I'm almost going to call it now. Next year, side scrolling Metroid and everyone will tell us how their Wii's will finally be used again.

Can we get a Super Punch-Out for the VC? I loved that game to death when I was younger.
theturtle363 @ Jul 11th 2008 11:55AM
I was excited by the idea of punching out the animals from Animal Crossing
Marty @ Jul 11th 2008 12:35PM
For a brief moment, I thought you said they were unveiling Animal Crossing: Punch Out. I just couldn't imagine punching KK Slider in the mug while he just sits there playing tunes!
Would have been an interesting cross-branding, so say the least!
BSTKiller @ Jul 11th 2008 2:55PM
Surprising!
Lewigi @ Jul 11th 2008 3:13PM
ATTENTION
Trust this mag! :D
These are the guys that told us Twilight Princess was gonna be delayed to be a Wii weeks before it was announced officially.
They also reveladed Resi DS weeks before it was officially announced.
P.S. NGamer was formerly known as NGC magazine, if that means anythng to anyone
Cesaria (cesariatic.wordpress.com) @ Jul 11th 2008 5:04PM
This is shaping up to be the most epic E3 for Nintendo ever!
Snowblind @ Jul 11th 2008 5:13PM
I love the Animal Crossing games, I still play the DS version regularly.. However, I quit the Gamecube version after only a few weeks. It's just too much hastle to put the game in and load up your file just to play for ten minutes or so at a time. At least with the DS it's more convienant.
It'd also be a little sad to lose all that progress from the DS version, I wonder if they'll be connected in some way?
Oh, and they badly need to bring back the proper holidays like Wintersday, instead of those crappy weekly things like the flea market.
EcnobA @ Jul 11th 2008 8:25PM
where is star fox wii?
maybe some donkey kong wii, or a new franchise could be good...
GearSecond!! (a.k.a AwesomeStuff) @ Jul 11th 2008 10:46PM
Captain Rainbow?
Mr Khan @ Jul 11th 2008 8:46PM
Honestly, Animal Crossing Wii was known about from long ago. They used a build of the game to demonstrate the Wii message board
And it is because of the Wii OS's integration capabilities that i am excited for Animal Crossing Wii. The message board and a separate channel, make for a good experience
Jhongerkong @ Jul 11th 2008 11:40PM
I dont know how they can make a new punch out when this happened...
