Okay class, it's time to take out your notebooks and no. 2 pencils. Today we're going to be learning a new word -- verticality. The word traces its origins back to the Total War chaps at Sega-owned The Creative Assembly, who coined the term to describe the studio's latest project, Stormrise, a new real-time strategy game "built from the ground up" specifically for the Xbox 360 and PS3.
Who here can tell the class what verticality means? Billy, put your hand down. No one? Verticality, according to Sega, is a means of allowing players to control multiple layers of units, from the sky to beneath Stormrise's "bleak and barren" earth. Currently gathering resources for a 2009 release, the game represents The Creative Assembly's first attempt at creating a RTS for consoles, so if they fall on their face we must do our best to keep any criticisms constructive. Class dismissed.

WHY do they keep making console specific FPS? They control HORRIBLY compared to the PC versions!

Thats a good question.
I think the consoles need more turn-based strategy games. They control a lot better and generally have a lot more tactical depth

I don't see why Microsoft won't just let us use a mouse and keyboard. Then I could play in front of my TV with good controls. RTS console controls are getting better, but I really doubt they will ever be able to beat a PC's controls.

Want to know why? Ask yourself this. Which gaming hardware would make Sega the most money. Releasing the game on the pc, or releasing it on consoles?

I don't understand what happened to it either, whenever I'm on an article and hit refresh the post count goes up and down.

That's exactly what has been happening to me. The post counts seem to change every 2 seconds, and I have my password saved in my browser and it seems like half the time now it just randomly disappears on me for no reason.
Sometimes I come into posts and some comments that were there before are gone, and then I come back and they're back. It's really weird.

And by "well thought out", I assume you meant "dumbed down enough".
Not to say that console users are dumb, but the fact that a controller will never be able to be quite as nice to control as a mouse/keyboard for RTS.

I see what they mean by 'built from the ground up for 360/PS3'. You just can't fit so much brown and green onscreen at once with any last-gen system.

SEGA must have made good money on Universe at War.

I did liked Universe at war, simple yet satisfying.
Too bad I don’t like to play RTS online. Everyone rushes so you can’t have a good fight.
Now that I’m still waiting for Sega to announce a new “Vectorman” or a “Vectorman” FPS.

Again everyone rushes and make a huge army made of puny units ,no one waits to create a real army so is kind of boring because every game is the same and yes I survive is just everybody does the same.

Yeah, good luck competing with SC2. That, and the fact that it's console specific, only dooms the game to failure.
RTS games and consoles don't mix well.

I agree, get used to console controls or stop whining. I thought Universe at War's control scheme was great but unfortunately due to the frame rate issues that plagued the game in the beginning, it's patched now, reviewers didn't talk about it as being a step in the right direction but more so about technical flaws.

Could the Wii even be able to have more than 30 units on screen at once? ;o
