If you have broadband, which you NEED, then you will have a router or a modem with a ethernet port. So, nothing else is needed except a 360 and a broadband connection. With the PS3, you have to buy a wireless router to take advantage of it's WiFi. Using the logic that, somehow, the 360's ethernet adapter is needed, then by that same logic you have to buy a wireless router with the PS3. In all reality, that is a silly and pointless statement only made by fanboys that are hurt because one console is cheaper than the other.

I had some rtard tell me yesterday that I HAD to have an HD-DVD drive to match the performance of the PS3. I pointed out that you can download HD movies on XBL, but he wouldn't listen. Same logic, just because one has it and trouts it as the next big thing, the other MUST have it.

It makes sense. There still loosing money on the system and don't have near the same user base as the ps2 had. The best thing they can do right now is keep the price at 400-500 and just start taking away accessories. In fact they can even decide to sell those accessories as separate add-ons. Really at this point unless the PS3 is proven to cure aids they don't have a chance to pull a profit each time they make a new PS3.

Why some of you as consumers care if Sony makes a profit is beyond me. The consumer is the one hurt by the cost of a PS3. They should drop the price to compete better. They thought Blu Ray was going to be a huge draw and they were wrong. Those who think the jump from DVD to Blu Ray is the same as VHS to DVD was are way wrong. DVD along with good games is what made the PS2 a success and it's just not going to happen this gen for Sony. No games+overpriced DVD format=No thanks. Oh that and a shitty but "free" online service doesn't help either. I mean if you can't swing $50 a year for LIVE you shouldn't even have broadband or be gaming as food, clothing and shelter are probably a bigger concern for you.

It's important for companies to be profitable so they can keep their business going. You know that their employees don't work on sunshine and happiness, right?
(though, it also seems that Sony is lacking both sunshine and happiness as of late... Hmmm...)

as a consumer i care about quality, and am satisfied by my purchase of a ps3 so the price didn't hurt me. the ps3 has games. paying for broadband was enough when i played multi on pc, while the $50 price for live isn't extravagant, the fact that they charge for the basic function of connecting to play with others should offend you as a consumer. i'm offended when people say they gladly pay for live because i think it sends the wrong message. companies footed the bill before live they can now. and i know live can be found cheaper but so can things for ps3 people complain about. i can find bigger cheaper hdds and hdmi cables online just how people are quick to point out you can find a cheap wifi adapter for the 360 on ebay. and those 360 owners who've had no problems since launch don't have hdmi.

I have the 360, Wii, DS, PSP but no PS3. Waiting for the price to drop... well I continue waiting. I'm in no hurry... I have plenty of other systems to keep me thoroughly entertained.

Not that I like it, but I can understand why they're doing it. They took a huge loss on the system last year, and may soon turn a profit on the hardware. From a business standpoint, it wouldn't be a good idea to go immediately from profit to loss again.

There's really no sense in trying to compete for #1 at this point. Wii has blazed past both PS3 and 360, and there's very little chance of that gap closing. It's much wiser for them to focus on making the system more enjoyable for those who already have it (new games, new firmware features) and be able to recoup their losses. While it may not be the market leader, it isn't like the PS3 isn't selling at all. It's at the point where Nintendo was with the GameCube last generation: while not setting the world ablaze with stellar sales, it still sells well enough to keep up.

Wasn't RPGs one of the biggest reasons Sony consoles was successful in the past? I'm no RPG fan, but alot of people I know had a playstation 2 becuase of the wide selection of RPGs.

Sorry but it's gonna take more than the latest installment in Final Fantasy to get part of that percentage to embrace the playstation 3.

Also, Sony needs more 3rd party exclusives. It's what helped them the last two generations. There are a growing number of PS3 games that are starting to get my attention...so a PS3 purchase (as in the full BC version of the console) isn't too far behind.

At least in the US the PS3 only costs $399.
Here in Australia the price for a normal 40GB PS3 with NO GAMES is AU$700!!!! That's like frigging US$640 -ish!

WOW, #'s 2 and 3 have hit the nail on the head, YES I enjoyed the H3LL out of MGS4 but once again there in nothing to play or anyone to play with!! When you turn on the 360, you feel like your in something special. When the PS3 goes on, you feel like your the only one playing!! Not to mention that a price drop may cause Sony to go out of business!! They really took it on the chin with all of the losses and have yet to recover from the PS3 launch 2 years ago!!

I've only got one thing to say about this...

"Good luck with that."

The 360 is soon to be nearly $100 cheaper than the PS3, has a larger library of quality titles and (in most cases) offers a virtually identical gaming experience... and Sony wants to "focus on profitability" instead of selling more PS3 units?! Are they serious?

Hey... I'm as excited about Little Big Planet as the next guy, but that combined with only MGS4 and Gran Turismo 5 currently representing the best of the console's exclusive offerings (alongside downloads like Echochrome) just isn't enough to justify owning both a 360 and a PS3, or paying the extra $100 for a sony labeled game console. (Besides, anyone who actually cares about the $100 price difference probably doesn't *need* a Blu-Ray player, let alone has a TV that could take full advantage of it...)

It just depends what the consumer making the purchase wants. I think Sony is looking at from the perspective that they need more attractive first party exclusives. If the games are there the sales will take care of themselves. My second point is that it also depends on the consumer. If someone wants all the extra features the PS3 offers they will pay the difference in price. However, if Blu-Ray, Wi-Fi, Linux, free PSN and the myriad of other features don't make them excited it wouldn't matter if the console were the same price as the 360 they still wouldn't buy it. In that respect Sony is 100% correct to not drop the price especially when they are just starting to see profitability.

The big mistake Sony is making is not releasing Killzone 2 around the 1008 holidays. They are better served to push back SOCOM Confrontation or Resistance 2 because those games will not move consoles like Killzone 2 will. Little Big Planet is going to be huge and will certainly move consoles as well.

i think its worth the purchase, but thats my personal feeling. i purchased my 60 gig last summer about a month before i intended to originally. the price drop slash clearence made it easier. i had been putting money to the side for the ps3 and 360 for awhile. by that summer i had spent the 360 money on a new washer and dryer. there weren't any launch titles for it i really wanted for it and halo 2 didn't make me want halo 3. i still plan on getting a 360 when i feel the price and build quality match up better for me. the good 360 titles will still be there and believe it or not the ps3 has games.

Yeah I have to agree with you there. I have all of the consoles and honestly the 360 has had a huge dry spell for games where as the PS3 has really been excelling. The big difference is I am purchasing all of my multiplatform titles for the PS3 and not the 360 because of my 5 RRODs since the launch of the console. I don't know why but I have just grown to loathe the 360 so much. I am not even a Sony fanboy but I have become a PS3 fanboy through the 360 being so unreliable. I can honestly say that were it not for Gears 2 I would not even own a 360. I would have sold it long ago.

i gotta agree with you guys. $500 for all the use i get out of my PS3 was well worth it. sure when i first bought it, i didnt have many games to play on it but i have plenty now and more on the way. as a long time Playstation fan, i can say that PS3 has had its ups and downs but i have absolutely not regrets i bought a PS3.

i dont own a 360 so i cant really talk about it from an experience standpoint like you guys are but i can say i am softening on it honestly. i may buy one eventually if they keep dropping the price and making it more reliable but for now, the PS3 has satiated my needs. but anyway, ive said it once and ill say it again, $300 seems to be the sweet spot in regards to consoles this gen and the sooner Sony reaches it, the better off they will be. they just need to make sure they dont go under in the process is all.

Complete non-story. When one of the console makers comes out and announces a price cut instead of employing all the typical cloak-and-dagger secrecy and denial, that will be a news story.

you do know that you can add friends on your friends list on the ps3 right? Maybe then you wouldn't feel so alone. Also, try getting some friends in real life and have them come over and play. Wait till Home comes out, then maybe you wont feel so alone.

personally i LIKE being alone, so it doesn't really bother me. Its a GAME system not a social networking machine. Thats what the computer is for.

In UK ps3 consoles are priced at 299 gbp. So what if a ps3 can play blu ray a dvd player can do that toshiba bliu ray dvd player 189.99 gbp. But my point is this a ps3 is a game console not a desktop computer and not a laptop so why in the hell is a ps3 same price as a laptop computer in the UK ? Laptop UK prices range from 299 gbp. Definition of games console. A machine that will play games. Definition of computer or laptop. A machine that will play any format of films. Transfer data. Hold a sub amount of files. Sony are selling an over priced games console. Since when did games console sound like desktop computer or laptop/notebook. No games console should ever be priced more than 200 gbp unless it came has a games package deal. A games console does not come any where near a computers catagoury so it shouldn't be priced as one.

I thought I just mention also. If we wanted a games console to be more like a computer wouldn't we be buying more computers instead of these game consoles. Computers certainly do more than just play games and the graphics would be 100 times better than a games console. They certainly wouldn't be any need for games consoles then. Computers are certainly coming down in price. The old adverts used to say by year 2000 every home would have a computer. Computers are the future. Sony need to re think their marketing strategy fancy putting ps3 same price as a laptop computer no wonder their not selling many ps3's. It's nothing to do with whose poor and who can afford this and who can afford that. People want an honest buy not a rip off.

If Sony said on their release of ps3 that "hey this is our new Sony playstation computer ps3" well that wouldn't be a games console then would it ? So why put the ps3 same price as a laptop computer ? A laptop can do a whole lot more than a ps3 can and a lot more than any other game console thats on the market. So that means people are being ripped off. So it's nothing to do with whose poor maybe people are being more wise and checking whats on the market and comparing consoles to computers.

Here is a menacing question to everybody. Write on a piece of paper and number things down. Compare how many things a computer can do to what a ps3 can do ?

Then ask yourself this question. Am i being ripped off if a ps3 is the same price as a laptop ?

Sonys always been up for the profits never up for the consumer well i don't believe that. Get the market wrong don't make a dime. Get the market right and you will shine. Anyone whose not to do with Sony ignore this next bit. Sony please reduce ps3 in UK to £200 gbp for 40gig and £259 for 60gig consoles do not reduce them any lower than this. Then do 1 ps3 controller and 1 game with 40gig console at £259 gbp. Then do some bundles with 60gig. Trust me you will make a profit. Please pass this on to Sony.
