I've got a Polar and my brother has a silver. They look nothing alike; Silver doesn't have the same shine. And a word of advice to everyone who likes stickers: never, ever, EVER put that Mario Kart sticker you get with the game on and NEVER Spongebob stickers. They RUIN it completely.

I disagree with you , I think that the DS Lite is perfectly fine , IMO any smaller and it'll be too small , and changing screen size won't work out to well , sure , old games can have black boxes , but what about new games on old systems . I would rather that they announce a new system , forcing Sony to react by anouncing the PSP2(with all of the old feautures , plus a built in Cammera and phone , And it is more like a DS and can close to protect the screen , 2 screens would be nice too , maybe a small one on the bottom with the controls and speakers to show Stats for rpgs etc, and the most of the whole top thing is the main screen . )

And the DS2 would be sick too , or Sony and Nintendo could get together in the handheld department , and make someting to destroy the Iphone/Ipod gameing thingyy (and the Xbox handheld , I think that MS might announce it this E3 , BOOO . )

I'm not a fanboy , i just hate MS when it comes to gaming .

Phantom: Having new games set to letterbox themselves would be easy enough. Screen size (you are actually thinking of aspect ratio. There is a large and important difference) would not be that big of an issue-- look at how it changed from GBA to SP to Micro. The same could be the case for DS to Lite to *. It could also be sold alongside the lite, so that those who still want something more substantial can have it. Everything else you've said is so ridiculous as to not be worth talking about.

Personally, I would love a DS redesign. Primarily, to make it smaller, and easier to carry around. I use my GBA Micro more often than my DS, simply because when I throw it into a pocket, I don't feel a thunk with every step. I know plenty of people who don't even have pockets large enough to carry their DS. It would also be pretty sweet to build in a web browser and mp3 player (SD or MicroSD card slot for storage), to regain a bit of ground against the PSP (these things can already be done on DS, but having them built in would be a definite advantage to most people). There's also tons of potential for building in storage and allowing the DS to store VC games, although that's a bit of a long shot. There are other random benefits that would also be nice, increased battery life and such, that come about by technological progress. However, an entirely new model (GBV or DS2) would seem a bit premature; especially considering the DS and Wii are still doing very well. Making a new system now would probably piss off a lot of people; whereas a redesign would make those who want something different (presumably, smaller) happy, while leaving those who like what they have just fine too.

DS sales are starting to slump (in Japan, at least), and a redesign, like the one described by Feba, would definitely perk them back up again into 2010 -- that is, when Nintendo can release their next completely new handheld.

DSes in pockets? Why would you want that? That's what the gods created purses and shoulder bags for.

I do not understand the desire for a handheld gaming system to do everything and anything under the sun.

I didn't buy a PSP because I didn't want movies and music and online capability. I just wanted to press the "on" button and start playing a game. Is that so weird these days?

If the DS gets a redesign, the only thing that would make it absolutely perfect is another centimetre or so, so that GBA games don't poke out and make pocket carrying awkward and dangerous.

Kimiko: Simply, because not everyone has a purse. If I'm just walking around a store, there's no way I'm bringing a travel kit just on the off chance I want to play my DS.

Aj: The biggest reason is because nowadays there's very little good reason NOT to give these devices this functionality, and plenty of good ones TO do it. The biggest one would be simply so you can carry around fewer things. Right now, if I want to listen to music and play games, I have to not only carry around my DS, but a DMP too. There's also the fact that besides having to carry it around, that's one more thing that I have to BUY. As it is, a DS with an SD card slot that could play mp3s off of such would be a great bargain to consumers (read: more people interested in buying), at relatively little cost to nintendo. Even if the extra features do not interest YOU, having a gaming device that doubles as a PDA does interest MANY people; and as we all know, more interest in a console is good for everyone. For all the shovelware Wii gets, it also gets some truly brilliant games, that likely wouldn't have been made or would've been far lesser otherwise (for example, Boom Blox and Blast Works)

Micro actually has more pixels per inch than any DS model ever created, including the Lite. Most people don't know that.

I'm one of those most. I'd have thought that the Lite had more pixels per inch, not the Micro. What kind of world has this become!?

Well, that's a really positive spin on "the screen is tiny," I guess.

Of course this model is going to be released now. I just replaced my broken Polar White with a Cobalt/Black. Uggh. I've wanted a Platinum/Metallic Silver DS Lite since they were announced, but to import would be over 200 dollars. Now they're being localized. *shakes fist*

SCREW SILVER!

Well, OK, for the non-black colors, metallic silver wouldn't be the worst thing to border your unfiltered happiness (go watch Game Overthinker).

Eh, silver is not a good color. I think it looks any system look chintzy and cheap rather than cool. They need to bring those other colors over if at all, but IMO all the cool DS colors are here in the US already. Cobalt blue and Crimson red baby.
