Neopets creators reveal monster taming MMO Twin Skies

Relatively young game developer Meteor Games, founded by the minds behind the kid-friendly Flash game portal Neopets, recently unveiled their latest project -- a rather ambitious 3D MMO titled Twin Skies. Following the style of their claim to fame, the title will place you in the shoes of an adventurer who uses pets to do his or her pugilistic grunt work, though with various races and classes mentioned on their FAQs page, we imagine your character can hold their own in a ruckus.
Arguably the coolest thing about the title is the integration of various web-based minigames set apart from the actual title. For instance, winning one minigame might unlock a monster for you to use in Twin Skies, while another might reward you with valuable lewts upon your next login. While subscription fees haven't been decided upon, the game will be free to download direct from the Twin Skies site. We'll definitely be looking forward to this title's first appearance at PAX, if only to see if "my Twin Skies pets, let me show you them" really has the same ring to it.

I'm sorry, but nothing can beat the exclusive pokemans lolcats version. Dear God, the giggles that were had!
...And, Neopets?! Is the demographic still around age 12 or are there Joystiq readers that still play this?
Jakka @ Jul 13th 2008 6:18PM
Fuck this shit.
If I wanted to play a Pokemon MMO, I'd go and play a Pokemon MMO.
Jonah Falcon @ Jul 13th 2008 6:48PM
Er, you can tame creatures in World of Warcraft. It's the Hunter class. LOL
Nytemare457 @ Jul 13th 2008 9:26PM
facepalm!

Still waiting for the pokemon MMO.
Not sure why Nintendo isn't considering it yet, maybe they need more room for another money printer at HQ.
Anyway, a pokemon MMO would have enough potential to topple WOW if done right.
Josh @ Jul 13th 2008 7:58PM
Yes, but if a Pokémon MMO is ever released, it will be nothing like it is in our heads, sadly. Stupid paranoid Nintendo...

I would actually consider getting back into Pokemon if that existed. I used to dream of a pokemon game for the N6

I would actually consider getting back into Pokemon if that existed. I used to dream of a pokemon game for the N64 and it would always have the Mario64 graphics and Ash would be like a less fat Mario.
mr mobius @ Jul 13th 2008 8:35PM
...4. It would always have the graphics of Mario64. I always pictured a sort of bombomb battlefield wth lots of grass and pidgeys.

my neopets, let me show you them
Lijik @ Jul 13th 2008 6:50PM
Had Neopets not become so incredibly commercial and inconsistent with their lore ("We're doing a pirate storyline, heres the intro flash video and destruction of a locale! Actually screw what we said, we're doing a medieval plot and let that locale stay destroyed for two years." "Remember Dr. Sloth? He's gonna get his revenge! To get you hyped, we're releasing a TCG series about the upcoming plotline. Actually no screw it, we're just gonna do a medieval plot." "Hey guys, we're making a PS1 game! Its going to be about defeating evil with playable cast members from our key storylines! Actually nah, screw it. Its gonna be set in medieval times") I would still be playing it.
Goddamn fucking medieval stories.

Haha, that sounds about right.
That game was maddeningly addictive. Particularly once you got crazy with restocking/trading.
Jeff @ Jul 13th 2008 7:04PM
Oh jeeze, I was hopelessly addicted to that crap in middle school.
Thank goodness they decided to destroy the economics aspect of the game and thereby made it suck.
Maybe this will be the pokemon MMO everyone is secretly praying for.

I thought kids wised up and left crap like neopets alone? are there that many kids who don't own a real pet?
gigglekitten @ Jul 13th 2008 7:58PM
Where does it say anything about it being a monster taming MMO?
Lijik @ Jul 13th 2008 8:15PM
So I got around to checking out the site, and holy crap is the art completely devoid of the charm that even Neopets was able to muster. Everything looks so generic and bland.
Hopefully it plays well, because otherwise I don't see this getting that popular at all.
Shaq-Fu @ Jul 13th 2008 8:35PM
Isn't NeoPets (NewPets) run by $cientologists? So its just going to be Lord Xenu and some furries swimming around their pools of money?

I'm tired of all these MMO's coming out.
It was nice to see one here and there a while back, but now you can find hundreds of free ones and plenty of subscription based ones.
Don't people play by themselves anymore? Or even just with friends? Singleplayer + LAN + Online or bust...

Another cool fansite has been opened as well...

Oh for goodness' sake!
The author needs to get his facts straight. It's not a monster-taming MMO. It's a sci-fi/fantasy MMO. Just because each character has the ability to pick a little pet like a puppy or a piglet doesn't mean it's a Pokemon redux.
Get your facts straight, please.

Quite frankly, the #1 Twin Skies fansite according to Google is Twin Skies Navigator:
