I wish they were at least some color from the beginning. The clear is ugly.

Well, i can definitely say, the red is better looking then the yellow bars or the 360's ugly platinum look.

Why the hell does the look of the case or disc matter? Last time I checked, I bought the game to play, not as an arrangement to my home theater system.

Resistance sold over 2 million copies, I think over 3.

So yeah, it's a greatest hit.

Warhawk is a great game, so I don't give a crap how many copies it sold, it's great to see it offered for a lower price.

Motorstorm sold over a million copies, but honestly, I think it stinks. I know something doesn't have to be a great game to become a greatest hit, but it's tough to get too excited about a mediocre game no matter what the price.

When compared to the shittiness that is the ps3 and its less than stellar library sure they're hits.

Methinks you need to learn what it takes to be considered for the lineup. Fucktard opinions have no bearings on sales, otherwise Transformers wouldn't have been a top performer last year.

Gamble, if these Greatest Hits follows previous Greatest Hits trends, the game has to have been on the market for 9 months. All three of the games you mentioned to fit this profile.

Why the Platinum Hits, Greatest Hits and Player's Choice boxes has to be so fugly?

Is it to embarrass the consumer for not buying the game at full price?

Really... I want to buy since last year Burnout Revenge and F.E.A.R. for the 360, and I haven't just because the ugly cases.

In fact, I have re-bought several games just because I found the versions with the original cases.

Seemingly yes. One person pointed out on here that the idea seems to be to make cheap titles look cheap so people looking for a value notice them long enough to look at the price.

Why not just print out a new cover?? I did that for some PS2 games I bought from GameCrazy that didn't have covers, and when they are seen in my collection on the shelves you really cannot tell the fakes amongst the real covers. I just used regular paper on an Epson Stylus CS4800.

Oh look...

Sony published all of those.

It's the same for most PSP games in my store too, lots of games that don't deserve to be greatest hits before some other great ones but are published through Sony studios... so it's a given.

Obviously KZ1 didn't sell 1 million copies but yet it got up there last year and while FFX and FFXII sold like 5 times as much and when I walk into a game store there is no greatest hits for them.

It's just Sony's way of saying here I know some of these games suck but here.

RFOM is probably the only game I'd get if I didn't already own it.

It's up to the publisher to decide when their game becomes a "Greatest Hit". Sony cannot just unilaterally cut the price by $30. I guess Sony is just more aggressive about doing this to their titles, which makes sense, since Sony has an incentive to increase sales of the platform, not just their titles.

Greatest Hits on PSP that are Sony Published represents only 12 of the 26 games currently in that lineup. However, the reason why you see Sony's GH titles more often is because Sony has a tendacy to make multiple runs as stock gets low whereas third parties usually do one, maybe two runs. Also, unless you have a Sony rep, you won't see them come in and add the header sticker to in store merch.

Heavenly Sword might be eligible. I'm guessing the limit is 500,000 sold and Heavenly Sword certainly did that. Lair, maybe not. Lowest selling game on the lineup here is Warhawk which was ~600,000, which means Sony may be sticking with PS2 limits instead of PSP limits.

On PS2, to be eligible, you needed to perform the following.

-Be on the market for at least 9 months
-Sell at least 500,000
-Be willing to make a significant run of discounted copies (ie, no printing 300 copies, usual GH run was ~100K).

On PSP, that sales limit was 400K.

The first is the largest barrier to the ones everyone is wanting.

Well, once R2 comes out, Resistance won't sell at all at $50-$60, so it's time. And all platform's "Greatest Hits" collections contain stinkers. MS started their 360 collection with Kameo and PDZ, didn't they?

PDZ is absolute garbage, and I abhor the fact that I even bought it (and feigned enjoyment). Kameo on the other hand is a completely underrated gem of a game.

Whether either deserve the 'Greatest Hits' title however is seriously debatable.

What do you mean? All of those are really good games, although I guess MotorStorm is arguable, but Fall of Man and Warhawk are top notch. I'm sure more games will join them, these are just the bestselling games which are published by Sony and are old enough for a price drop.

I understand the marketing aspect of a case design that makes the "clearance" games stand out, but the Greatest Hits series has always been so...ugly. They need to balance the concept of making games look affordable versus making games look of inferior quality. Oh well, at least we're not back to bright green stripes!

But that's half the point: people who DO think those games are of inferior quality are going to splash out $60 (or £45) for a new release. It's just self-targeted price discrimination.
