Red cases? I don't know if I like the look of that...
DangerMouse @ Jul 13th 2008 5:07PM
I wish they were at least some color from the beginning. The clear is ugly.
ChooChooCharlie @ Jul 13th 2008 5:21PM
It's the same color scheme as PS2's Greatest Hits titles.
spyker @ Jul 13th 2008 5:27PM
What you want those yellow bars on the side that were in one country?
LordChimp @ Jul 13th 2008 5:55PM
Well, i can definitely say, the red is better looking then the yellow bars or the 360's ugly platinum look.
Lekko @ Jul 13th 2008 6:28PM
well they had to do SOMETHING with all those useless HD-DVD boxes leftover...
Vol @ Jul 13th 2008 11:10PM
Why the hell does the look of the case or disc matter? Last time I checked, I bought the game to play, not as an arrangement to my home theater system.
Heh @ Jul 13th 2008 5:06PM
Those are "hits"? Really?
why not the LS2LS7? @ Jul 13th 2008 5:37PM
Resistance sold over 2 million copies, I think over 3.
So yeah, it's a greatest hit.
Warhawk is a great game, so I don't give a crap how many copies it sold, it's great to see it offered for a lower price.
Motorstorm sold over a million copies, but honestly, I think it stinks. I know something doesn't have to be a great game to become a greatest hit, but it's tough to get too excited about a mediocre game no matter what the price.
ThePerfectCompanion @ Jul 13th 2008 6:37PM
No not really...in the grand scheme of things
When compared to the shittiness that is the ps3 and its less than stellar library sure they're hits.
CGamble20 @ Jul 13th 2008 7:38PM
I'M SICK OF THIS VIDEO GAME PARTISANSHIP!
I'm Barack Obama. A vote for me is a vote for bi-partisanship for videogames! Because I believe in change!
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Jul 13th 2008 10:39PM
Methinks you need to learn what it takes to be considered for the lineup. Fucktard opinions have no bearings on sales, otherwise Transformers wouldn't have been a top performer last year.
Dwag @ Jul 13th 2008 5:12PM
Still mad they did after I bought RFOM for $55 at Gamestop.
Fernando Rocker @ Jul 13th 2008 5:13PM
They look like HD-DVD cases.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Jul 13th 2008 5:39PM
Yeah, they sure do.
Wow that's 3 FR posts in a row I agree with. WTF?
Josh @ Jul 13th 2008 8:01PM
Fernando, you made your profile public!
j.howlett @ Jul 13th 2008 5:14PM
warhawk was like $40 anyway w/o the headset right? i want to get it but i wonder if it comes with expansions or discount codes, like a goty edition.
Moorio - XBL: peacebyanymeans @ Jul 13th 2008 5:15PM
Oh man, they're coming out with PlayStatio games now?!
Ross Miller @ Jul 13th 2008 5:27PM
Just for the record, "PlayStatio" is a slant rhyme for "Pistachio"
Moorio - XBL: peacebyanymeans @ Jul 13th 2008 5:29PM
Pistachio is the best kind of nut.
Josh @ Jul 13th 2008 5:16PM
Playstatio 3?
FSK405K @ Jul 13th 2008 5:22PM
The PS3 has hits? And they aren't called "Metal Gear" or "Grand Theft?" Must be relative hits.
browntown @ Jul 13th 2008 6:50PM
Haha that hilarious. NOT! It's sad when fanboys can't give credit where it's due. there are soem great games on the PS3
CGamble20 @ Jul 13th 2008 7:41PM
Uncharted and Rachet and Clank and MGS4 are the best games the PS3 has had. Ha, none of them are in the greatest hits lineup from what I can see. Thats funny.. (I understand why MGS4 is not)
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Jul 13th 2008 10:42PM
Gamble, if these Greatest Hits follows previous Greatest Hits trends, the game has to have been on the market for 9 months. All three of the games you mentioned to fit this profile.
ANTCEP @ Jul 13th 2008 5:23PM
does this mean there will be platinum games in the uk?
Danny @ Jul 14th 2008 8:52AM
I think so.
Fernando Rocker @ Jul 13th 2008 5:24PM
Why the Platinum Hits, Greatest Hits and Player's Choice boxes has to be so fugly?
Is it to embarrass the consumer for not buying the game at full price?
Fernando Rocker @ Jul 13th 2008 5:31PM
Really... I want to buy since last year Burnout Revenge and F.E.A.R. for the 360, and I haven't just because the ugly cases.
In fact, I have re-bought several games just because I found the versions with the original cases.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Jul 13th 2008 5:38PM
Seemingly yes. One person pointed out on here that the idea seems to be to make cheap titles look cheap so people looking for a value notice them long enough to look at the price.
Paulmichael @ Jul 14th 2008 12:20AM
Why not just print out a new cover?? I did that for some PS2 games I bought from GameCrazy that didn't have covers, and when they are seen in my collection on the shelves you really cannot tell the fakes amongst the real covers. I just used regular paper on an Epson Stylus CS4800.
Thief @ Jul 13th 2008 5:25PM
Oh look...
Sony published all of those.
It's the same for most PSP games in my store too, lots of games that don't deserve to be greatest hits before some other great ones but are published through Sony studios... so it's a given.
Dwag @ Jul 13th 2008 5:57PM
Obviously KZ1 didn't sell 1 million copies but yet it got up there last year and while FFX and FFXII sold like 5 times as much and when I walk into a game store there is no greatest hits for them.
It's just Sony's way of saying here I know some of these games suck but here.
RFOM is probably the only game I'd get if I didn't already own it.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Jul 13th 2008 5:58PM
It's up to the publisher to decide when their game becomes a "Greatest Hit". Sony cannot just unilaterally cut the price by $30. I guess Sony is just more aggressive about doing this to their titles, which makes sense, since Sony has an incentive to increase sales of the platform, not just their titles.
Gbogdan @ Jul 13th 2008 8:21PM
@ dwag
Actually FFX did get a greatest hits.
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Jul 13th 2008 10:49PM
Greatest Hits on PSP that are Sony Published represents only 12 of the 26 games currently in that lineup. However, the reason why you see Sony's GH titles more often is because Sony has a tendacy to make multiple runs as stock gets low whereas third parties usually do one, maybe two runs. Also, unless you have a Sony rep, you won't see them come in and add the header sticker to in store merch.
Jakka @ Jul 13th 2008 5:41PM
Let me guess...the next hits are going to be Ratchet and Uncharted.
Benny @ Jul 13th 2008 6:23PM
I believe Heavenly Sword and Lair are going to be in there too. LMAO!
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Jul 13th 2008 10:55PM
Heavenly Sword might be eligible. I'm guessing the limit is 500,000 sold and Heavenly Sword certainly did that. Lair, maybe not. Lowest selling game on the lineup here is Warhawk which was ~600,000, which means Sony may be sticking with PS2 limits instead of PSP limits.
On PS2, to be eligible, you needed to perform the following.
-Be on the market for at least 9 months
-Sell at least 500,000
-Be willing to make a significant run of discounted copies (ie, no printing 300 copies, usual GH run was ~100K).
On PSP, that sales limit was 400K.
The first is the largest barrier to the ones everyone is wanting.
Jacksons @ Jul 13th 2008 5:51PM
Hurrah for not being that disgusting yellow!
Roto13 @ Jul 13th 2008 5:56PM
Maybe they should have waited until enough great PS3 games had been out for long enough. Those are kind of embarrassing....
Saria the Cat @ Jul 13th 2008 5:58PM
Yeah, about half the wall of PS3 games at Gamestop will be Greatest Hits now.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Jul 13th 2008 6:03PM
Well, once R2 comes out, Resistance won't sell at all at $50-$60, so it's time. And all platform's "Greatest Hits" collections contain stinkers. MS started their 360 collection with Kameo and PDZ, didn't they?
Benny @ Jul 13th 2008 6:35PM
PDZ is absolute garbage, and I abhor the fact that I even bought it (and feigned enjoyment). Kameo on the other hand is a completely underrated gem of a game.
Whether either deserve the 'Greatest Hits' title however is seriously debatable.
Nightvortez @ Jul 13th 2008 7:06PM
What do you mean? All of those are really good games, although I guess MotorStorm is arguable, but Fall of Man and Warhawk are top notch. I'm sure more games will join them, these are just the bestselling games which are published by Sony and are old enough for a price drop.
Saria the Cat @ Jul 13th 2008 5:57PM
I understand the marketing aspect of a case design that makes the "clearance" games stand out, but the Greatest Hits series has always been so...ugly. They need to balance the concept of making games look affordable versus making games look of inferior quality. Oh well, at least we're not back to bright green stripes!
Benny @ Jul 13th 2008 6:37PM
But that's half the point: people who DO think those games are of inferior quality are going to splash out $60 (or £45) for a new release. It's just self-targeted price discrimination.
Saria the Cat @ Jul 13th 2008 7:07PM
@Benny: Wow, that's an interesting point. I never looked at it from that perspective. Well, that basically makes Greatest Hits even worse from my point of view.
