What's this? More rumors about another Halo? The latest Gamespot Rumor Control has a source that claims the next Halo title will be tactical, "a cross between Ghost Recon and Gears of War" and will be announced sometime this year (maybe tomorrow?). According to the source, the "darker, grittier" iteration is more akin to Neil Blomkamp's shorts. Oh yeah, and that Master Chief guy is nowhere to be found.
In terms of gameplay, you can reportedly play as an entire squad (huh?) in the entire campaign, and there will be online co-op. The mention of Ghost Recon is particularly interesting, as a former creative director from G.R.A.W. developer Red Storm joined Bungie in August 2007. Gamespot seems confident with their source, and that would make for quite a big E3 announcement.

Read the books. The Halo series of games are like a bastardization of them. They have so much depth and complicated story structure it's just crazy to believe the games are so bland.
Please let the main characters include Linda and Kelly! Or *gasp* my favorite of the series, Ghosts of Onyx.

in this case tho, the books are based off the games, so you cant really make that argument. Your the type of person who doesnt enjoy 80% of the movies you watch because they dont follow the book their based on, arnt you? (although the da vinci code did really blow in comparison to the book I must admit)

007craft,
Really? I haven't seen the movie but I didn't think that anything could be worse than The Davinci Code book.

No, the halo books really are that much better than the games. You should read them. If anything, just read the first one (the fall of reach). Learning about how master chief came to be is truly epic, IMO at least.

so what you guys are saying is that games aren't as deep as books? Or are you saying *gasp* that games aren't real art?!?!? ;-)

I could definitely go for the more "tactical" part. Get rid of shields in general and just use the same regenerating health system as Rainbow Six: Vegas. It still won't be THAT close to reality, but at least your enemies should take less than 50 rounds (not counting the sniper rifle) to die.

Combine overhyped, underperforming franchise with new marketing campaign, bake for 12 months. Yields 100 million dollars.

Actually, and you guys will prolly vote me down for this, he's right. While his word choice, per se, is off, Halo is VERY overrated. I find most of the levels to be bland and have "meh" design. Not to mention I always found the whole "walk slowly and shoot towards enemy, throw grenade, melee enemy when close" formula too repetitive for my tastes. Perhaps it's just that the game is too slow for me in too many parts?
Also, since most of you guys will jump on me for this, games I'd rather play over it: Gears (there is actual depth to gameplay when you're not shotgun-whoring), Unreal Tournament (no dull moments whatsoever lulz), Resistance (no dull moments), etc. The purpose of a shooting game is to blow shit up and have lots of action, not run like a retarded sloth and play rock-paper-scissors-esque matches in bland levels.
Not a fanboy in any way here, as many could tell you, just giving my two cents. Don't care if you love Halo to death or hate it like Jack Thomson to GTA - everyone is entitled to their own opinions - and, while I want to like Halo, I don't find it more than a modest 8/10 tbh.

EVERYTHING is overrated, but Halo is just flat out fun as hell online and the single player in 3 was pretty sweet also.

I'm sure MS is working on several new Halo games. One of them is sure to be "darker and grittier".

@embassy, I'd love it if it were true. An Infinity Ward treatment is just what Halo needs. But I think I read that IW is supposed to be working on a *new IP* sci-fi shooter.

Yes because one of the last games that actually uses color needs to be made more generic...
Although if they made colorful Gears with a Halo skin I'd buy it

Yeah, people said Halo 3 didn't look next gen enough, so they're gonna palette swap it to brown and grey.
